Disneyland raises prices; says more changes to come
Call it the worst-kept Disney secret: on Sunday morning, both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts implemented a price increase on most daily tickets and all annual passports. Both resorts maintain the seasonal flex pricing structure implemented two years ago, with the price of one-day tickets based on which of three seasons—Value, Regular and Peak—the ticket is used.
At the Disneyland Resort, one-day admission during peak season increases by $11, to $135. At Walt Disney World, a one-day ticket to the Magic Kingdom park during peak season increased by $5, to $129. With this change, it now costs more to spend a day at Disneyland than at Florida's Magic Kingdom.
While the cost of most tickets went up, there was an exception at the Disneyland Resort. The price of a one-day value season ticket remained flat, at $97, and the value season one-day park hopper ticket actually dropped by $10, to $147.
Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown tells MousePlanet in a written statement:
“We know how important making memories at Disney theme parks is to our guests and we will continue to evolve our pricing in a way that gives them a range of options to meet their budget and helps better spread attendance throughout the year so they can make the most of every visit.”
Disneyland Resort annual passports saw price increases of as much as 18 percent, with the Signature Plus pass now $1,149. The price of the most expensive annual passport, the Premier Passport (which is valid at both the Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort), jumped 10 percent, to $1,579 per year.
You can see the full chart of ticket prices in our Discounts and Promotions section below. There was no change to the parking rates at the Disneyland Resort, although Walt Disney World did see a modest increase.
In addition to the published ticket price increase, Disney also quietly eliminated the renewal discount offered to annual passholders who renewed their passport before it expired. That discount was up to $60 depending on the level of pass, and its elimination represents something of a double-whammy for current passholders. A Signature Plus passholder who renewed last week paid $989 with the renewal discount. Today, that same passholder will pay the full $1,149 to renew a pass, or $160 more. The Signature pass is now $200 more for current passholders, between the $150 rate increase and the loss of the $50 renewal discount.
This price increase was not unexpected, and falls exactly one year after the domestic Disney theme parks last raised prices. However, Disney officials have said this is not the last change visitors will see this year. Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown also told MousePlanet:
“We will be reshaping our Annual Pass program to better manage the guest experience throughout the year, which will help all Disneyland Resort guests have a great visit, particularly as we look forward to the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019.”
It should be no surprise that Disneyland is looking at ways to manage crowds around the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and that will have to include a way to manage the crush of Disneyland annual passholders eager to get a first look at the land. While Disney did not provide any specifics about how it may futher change the AP program, some language and display options on the Disneyland website may give a hint at what's to come.
The pass comparison grid on the Disneyland website separately lists admission to Disneyland, admission to Disney California Adventure, and the ability to visit both parks on the same day. While all of the passes offered currently include all three benefits, the way this is presented implies that there may be a time when a certain pass type does not include admission to one park or the other, or does not include park hopper benefits.
The blockout days for the Signature passport are described as including the December holidays, “and other peak days.” This language is not new—it's been part of the description since the Signature pass debuted—but the blockouts have been limited to December so far. We expect that to change when Disney releases the blockout dates for the month in which Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens. It's a good bet that the opening week(s) and month(s) will be deemed peak days, and blocked out to most passholders.
Long-time readers may remember that there was a brief time during which Disney sold annual passports valid at Disneyland but not at Disney California Adventure. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on the event horizon, we may see the reverse policy take hold.
It's also possible that Disney could impose different blockout dates for each of the theme parks, a practice already used by Universal Studios Orlando to manage passholder access to its three parks.
Whatever happens, we expect Disney to release details—and likely another AP price hike—about 400 days before the official opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Save on Disneyland Resort tickets after the price change
Following every annual price increase, we like to share the legitimate ways you can still save on Disneyland tickets for your next trip. I'm only listing legitimate discounts and options below. If you have a tip I haven't mentioned here, let me know!
1: Purchase through Get Away Today
MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today will continue to sell tickets at the pre-increase pass through February 21, 2018. This discount is valid only via their website, or by calling 1-855-GET-AWAY. Be sure to mention you saw them on MousePlanet.
2: Check your local grocery store or Disney store
If your local grocery store or Disney Store sells Disneyland tickets, check to see if they have any at the old prices. While Disney Stores often pull the old tickets a few days before a price increase for just this reason, your local store may not have read the notice. Grocery stores are often slower to react to price changes, so you may have a one- or two-day window to hunt down a deal.
3: Check with your local travel agent
In the past, travel agencies and ticket resellers could quietly continue to sell their remaining tickets at the old prices after a price change, while inventory lasted. If you work with a travel agent that usually stocks Disneyland tickets, check with them.
4: Check with a Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel
Likewise, Disneyland's Good Neighbor Hotels are usually allowed to quietly sell their remaining tickets at the old prices after a price change, while inventory lasts. This may give you a short window to find tickets at the old rate.
5: Consider the 2018 CityPASS
The 2018 Southern California CityPASS ($353/$324) includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2018. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website , through Get Away Today, or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket.
When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $44/$36. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website.
You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:
- Add a second day at LEGOLAND for $25. Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Add LEGOLAND Water Park for $30 for ages 3+ ($5 for ages 2 and under). Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS
- Upgrade your Disneyland ticket to another ticket or annual passport of equal or greater value. For the current Southern California CityPASS, a credit of $330 for ages 10+ ($314 for ages 3-9) will be applied toward another ticket of equal or greater value. Purchase the upgrade at Disneyland before the end of your third visit.
6: Need an Annual Passport? Consider upgrading the 2018 CityPASS
As detailed above, the 2018 Southern California CityPASS includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket, which can be upgraded to a Disneyland Resort Annual Passport. You’ll receive the Box Office value of the 3 Day Park Hopper ticket towards your upgrade, which is now $330. While this does not save you money overall, purchasing and upgrading a CityPASS basically gets you a Disneyland Annual Passport at the current rate, plus a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California for just $23 more. Spend a weekend visiting San Diego attractions, then have the rest of the year to visit Disneyland.
Chapek talks Disneyland at D23 Expo Japan
D23 Expo Japan took place this weekend, with a presentation by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek about plans for Disney parks around the globe. Several new details were released for the Disneyland Resort, along with some new concept art.

Chapek announced that Pixar Pier will open at Disney California Adventure on June 23 with the debut of the Incredicoaster. An already-announced attraction based on Inside Out will open sometime later in the year. Chapek gave no additional details about plans for King Triton's Carousel, which closes March 2.
The announcement stated that the former Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be transformed into a Pixar-themed lounge, though no additional details were available. We previously reported that the renovations to the restaurant include adding a private dining room.

Toydarians to set up shop in Galaxy's Edge
In Star Wars lore, the Toydarians are a species of small, flying creatures who are immune to Jedi mind tricks. The best-known Toydarian is Watto, a junk dealer and slave trader from The Phantom Menace who owned the young Anakin Skywalker.

Chapek announced that a Toydarian will run a street market in the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and will offer for sale “handcrafted” toys of popular Star Wars characters.

- 2018 Grad Nites: May 4, 5, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30; June 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
- CHOC Walk – Sunday, August 26. Additional details will be released soon.
- Moonlight Magic after-hours event for Disney Vacation Club members – Thursday, November 15. Reservations open October 4.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 11, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Discounts for:
Everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you pre-purchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Southern California residents |
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks multiple days before May 24, 2018 for as little as $159 with the 2018 So Cal Resident ticket. The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 24. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $159 for ages 3 and up, a discount of 20% compared to box office prices and a $10 increase from the 2017 promotion. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $45, a savings of up to $40 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. If you want an extra day to visit the parks, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($199) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($244) in the promotion. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them by calling (714) 781-4636. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 21, 2018. Tickets expire May 24, 2018, and are blocked out March 23 through April 8, 2018. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
