Welcome back to another edition of Disney Stuff. Thanks again for your responses and please keep them coming. They say that every party ends up in the kitchen, at least every good party that is. Most people spend a significant amount of their time in the kitchen, especially nowadays with kitchens being more integrated into the home. So, as Disney fans, collectors and accumulators, our kitchens should have their fair share of Disney Stuff and paraphernalia scattered throughout, shouldn’t they?
If you’ve shopped on Main Street U.S.A., at MouseGears, or at The World of Disney, you’re aware that the possibility of having a completely Disney-fied kitchen is very real. At first glance, our kitchen isn’t what you would call a Disney kitchen. We don’t like to hit you over the head with any one theme in our décor. In our kitchen, there’s a hutch full of vintage McCoy pottery, one of my wife’s favorite collections, along with a nice selection of vintage milk bottles that we’ve acquired over the years. I’ve even got a spot in the kitchen for some of my N.Y. World’s Fair collection. If you scratch the surface, however, you’ll find a nice smattering of Disney kitchen stuff that’s come from our trips to Walt Disney World or from the old Disney catalog. There’s even some stuff from the Disney Store, back when they used to sell more of a variety of things like housewares and animation art, not just toys and pajamas.
The very point of this ongoing column is that we all like to have our Disney Stuff around us. It makes us smile and reminds us of our travels to Walt Disney World or Disneyland or our favorite films and characters. That said, let’s take a look at some of the Disney stuff that’s hidden in our kitchen.
I’ll pile all the kid’s stuff into one photo. The kids like their plates, bowls and cups including some cups from Disney on Broadway. Much to my surprise, there were no hidden Mickey straws in the cupboard. We tend to accumulate these on our trips and to be honest, I’m not sure where they all went. I’ll put that on the list for this August’s trip.

I like these Mickey bowls. They’re the family choice for cereal in the morning. The fact that the pattern is referred to as “Mickey Parts” is a little disturbing when you think about it.

This is one of the last things I bought from the Disney Catalog. I miss the catalog. I guess I’m sort of old school. The website is cool, but I miss the catalog arriving in the mail and laying around the house for a while. There was a Minnie iced tea glass to complete the set, but she broke.

Here’s a Sorcerer Mickey bottle stopper. He keeps my wine nice and fresh, which is an odd thing for Mickey Mouse to do, really.

On a similar note here are some Muppet shot glasses that were a gift from Walt Disney World. I’m sorry, here are some Muppet toothpick holders that were a gift from Walt Disney World.

I know the salt and pepper shaker market is pretty huge. They’re extremely collectible and the choices are endless. We only have two sets, this set of Tinker Bell shakers…

…and this pair of salt and pepper shakers from the Germany pavilion at Epcot. My wife has had these for years and I remember them in each of our apartments and now they’ve been in our house since day one.

Here’s one of the kids favorite things, the Winnie the Pooh waffle iron. It doesn’t make Piglet waffles like they used to have at the Crystal Palace (we miss those) but it’s the closest thing.

Once again, we could have much more, but we like a more subtle approach in our home. We have our Disney Stuff, that’s for sure; we just like some of it to be a little less obvious. I like my Frosted Mini Wheats in my Mickey Parts bowl and my Iced Tea in my Goofy glass. I know there are Mickey blenders, toasters, silverware, flatware, utensils, china, that Mickey sink strainer thing and 101 other ways to deck your kitchen out in “Mouse Ware,” we just haven’t gone all out…not just yet at least.
I’d love to hear about some of your Disney kitchens out there, so send me some descriptions and I’ll see you next time with more of that great Disney Stuff.
