Brazil coming to World Showcase?
In a story first reported on the Epcot Explorer’s Encyclopedia website and picked up by Inside the Magic, there are reports in a Brazilian newspaper that Walt Disney World has approached the government of Brazil to discuss the possibility of the country becoming the first South American representative around World Showcase Lagoon.
Google Translate turns the original Portuguese into the following:
Brazil managed to seat a large international “forum”: Disney. Representatives of the largest complex of theme parks in the world have sought the federal government this week to announce that will install a flag of Brazil at Epcot Center in Orlando (USA). The country ranks with nations like USA, China, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Canada.
Two ministers will climb teams to help in that effort: Helena Chagas, the Secom (Secretariat for Social Communication), and Fernando Pimentel, Development. They will provide information on Brazil to help the park raise the flag. The government forecast is for a big comeback in tourism.
Brazil would certainly make sense. Brazilians are one of the largest tourist groups visiting the resort, and a Brazil pavilion would provide another place to employ the large number of Brazilians participating in the Walt Disney World International Program. A traditional churrascaria, or Brazilian steakhouse, would be a welcomed addition to the dining opportunities at Epcot. There are a number of available locations around the lagoon, some currently hosting service structures, while others are clear except for trees.
Bearing in mind that many countries have reported that Walt Disney World was adding a pavilion for their country, or that Walt Disney Parks & Resorts was building a new resort in their country, with no facts to back it up or construction ever taking place, so this must be taken with a grain of salt. Brazil is only the most recent country rumored for addition to Epcot, with previous rumors favoring Spain, Australia, and others. We’ll keep an eye on this and will report if any more concrete information comes to light.

Star Tours passports, new merchandise coming
When guests enter Star Tours: The Adventures Continue beginning May 20, they will board Star Tours Flight #1401 from a busy spaceport. C-3PO and R2-D2 will try to escape bounty hunters and get your Starspeeder 1000 to safety. Over 50 ride variations are possible, with six different destinations, different character interactions, and other variables thrown into the mix. With all of the different variations, how will you keep track of where you’ve been? Why with an official galactic passport, of course! Walt Disney World has created a new website where you can create your own galactic passport with you playing the role of a pod racer, a queen, a rebel pilot, or a Jedi (no Sith options here, perhaps they don’t need passports?). You can pick your persona, select a photo already online or upload a new one, fill in some information about yourself, and then print your passport and/or post it to your Facebook page.
You can create and print your own Star Tours passport online, then get it stamped at the attraction’s exit to certify completion of your mission. Image © Disney.
But that’s not all that’s new coming with the redesigned attraction. There is all sorts of merchandise set to debut with the attraction. Merchandise will be available for opening day only, passholders only, and all guests. You can get a look at a great deal of the new merchandise at the Disney Parks Blog, and the Disney Gallery website, and StarWars.com.

A Personal Appeal, Year Six
There is nothing more heartbreaking than a baby who is born too soon having medical complications that leave them with medical difficulties for life, or worse, that never let them leave the hospital alive. On May 15, I will once again be walking to raise money for the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
Over the last five years, through the generosity of MousePlanet readers, friends, family, and co-workers, we have raised nearly $19,000. This year, let’s do something really special. My personal goal is to raise $5,000 this year, but you can help in ways other than donating to my walk. This year, you can walk with me. Even if you aren’t in the Albany, NY area, you can virtually walk with me by joining Team MousePlanet and walking at the March for Babies site near you. If you join me in walking, money that you raise will help babies in your area to get a fighting chance to survive!
For more information about why I’m walking, or to donate to my walk, please go to my fundraising page. To sign up to join Team MousePlanet, please go to the team page. Let’s show those struggling babies how much MousePlanet readers care!
Construction update
Here is the listing of interesting items from paperwork filed with Orange County in the last week:

Quick takes …
…If you rent a car when you visit Walt Disney World, beware of gas stations near the airport taking advantage of travelers wanting to gas up at the last possible moment. While it’s not surprising that gas stations near the airport have higher prices than surrounding stations, one of the stations has been cited for having the highest gas prices in the nation, nearly $2 per gallon higher than the average price in the Orlando area. The Suncoast Gas station was charging $5.69 for a gallon of regular gasoline. Another station nearby has been cited for similarly high prices. Most rental companies give you a little leeway in how far away you have to fill up your tank, so you may be better off filling up a bit further away at a much lower price.

The hats, based on various pavilions around Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon, feature each country’s flag on the left ear, a national icon on the right ear, a miniature themed hat on top, and an overall design based on the country. Canada’s hat features crossed hockey sticks on the right ear, plaid matching cast member costumes for the main hat fabric, a miniature cast member-style Mountie hat, and a beaver applique. Italy features a pizza on the ear and a gondolier’s hat, with a gondolier-shirt-patterned hat. Germany, Mexico and England (not the United Kingdom, for some reason) are the other three being released. All will retail for $14.95. If these hats prove popular, additional hats representing the other World Showcase countries could make an appearance.
…A new Lion Dance troupe debuts at Epcot’s China pavilion this week, while The British Invasion begins its last week at the United Kingdom pavilion. The Lion Dance troupe replaces the long-running Dragon Legend Acrobat troupe. We’re hearing that another act will replace The British Invasion, but no details yet.
…Walt Disney World has received approval for plans to build new stables at the Tri-Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, originally submitted last October. This will allow Disney to consolidate the lodgings for its 26 draft horses with its 20 ponies. The ponies will be lodged two per stall, while each draft horse will have its own stall, making a total of 36 stalls. From the plans on file with the South Florida Water Management District, it appears that a new access road will be built on the far side of the existing paddocks, and an existing fenced area will become a drainage pond. The new stables will be built to the right of the existing paddocks, and a blacksmith shop will be built just to the right of one of the walkways between the existing parking lot and the current ranch entrance.
