Thanks to our sponsor, and a contest
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s
Locker, a new service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only
stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
This week, we read the contest entry from Dave from San Francisco, who thought
that he’d use his Owner’s Locker as a low-cost alternative to the Disney Vacation
Club. He plans to rig up a life-support system (and, we presume, and sanitation
system) to allow him to live in his Owner’s Locker until other guests need
him and take him out of storage. He’d then run errands for them and generally
do their bidding until they leave and put his locker back in storage.
That’s an extremely inventive entry, but we think that there’s still some
room to improve on it! Send in your entry today!
Don’t forget that you’ve got until midnight on Halloween to send
in your ideas on what you would do with an Owner’s Locker. John will again
select his favorite, and he’ll join us on the November 5 show to announce
    our next winner!
Tip of the Week
This week’s tip came from listener Dave Welty. (Send
    in your tip now!)
Dave recommends getting early reservations at California Grill for the night
that the Christmas party is being run to catch the early showing of Wishes
while you eat, then go to the Magic Kingdom for the Party for an extra-special
    night of fireworks.
Mark warned that you probably want to confirm that Wishes is being run the
night that you’re planning to do this, as it was not run on a recent night
where he attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. A further check with
the official schedule looks like Wishes will be run at 6 p.m. on Mickey’s
Very Merry Christmas Party nights, even though it didn’t run on Halloween
    party nights.
Mike just feels that it’s wrong to be seeing Wishes that early in the evening.
Featured attraction
This week, we look at Pirates of the Caribbean in New
Orleans Square at Disneyland Park and
    Adventureland at Walt
    Disney World‘s Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney World’s edition of the attraction clocks in at 9 minutes, while
the Disneyland original runs 15 minutes. Of course, it was never supposed
to be built in Florida. Mark went through the history of Pirates and Western
River Expedition/Thunder Mesa at Walt Disney World.
Mike really likes both versions, and thinks that they’re very different experiences.
Mark then gave some history about how the attraction was originally supposed
to be a walk-through attraction, until Walt Disney got a number of inspirations
from the attractions created for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair (including
the boat ride system from “it’s a small world” and the animatronic
human figure from Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln). He then had everything
(including the foundations) ripped out and recreated for the new version of
    the attraction.
Mike told the story of where the idea for the fireflies in the Disneyland
version of the ride came from. He also mentioned that you can buy
the fireflies (not the originals) online.
Neither Mark nor Mike has been on the Disneyland version since the refurbishment
that added characters from the movies. Mark missed it by mere months.
Mark then gave a rundown of the changes to the attractions, including a Jack-by-Jack
    critique.
Review system spotlight
This week’s spotlight focuses on the Boulangerie Patisserie at Epcot’s France
pavilion. MousePlanet readers really like the Boulangerie, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets on the strength of 5 reviews. Our featured
review this week is a 4-planet review by tdelaney_98 of Farmington, MN.
She really likes the food there, though she hates the hot cocoa.
We used the opportunity to promote MousssseFest 2007, our MouseFest meet
to be held on December 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Boulangerie.
Mark talked about the location of the Boulangerie and suggested various ways
and locations to eat your treat. His wife takes her Napoleon back to the room
so that it doesn’t matter now difficult it is to eat neatly.
Mike then teased Kelly Monaghan about the number of desserts that he purchased
    and ate during MousssseFest 2006.
You can also find Boulangerie Patisserie in our Park
    Guide.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question comes from Julie from the UK, who asked: “If you
were a cast member for the day, which WDW attraction would you like to work
    on?”
Mark’s son would pick Soain’ if he could ride the attraction during his break.
Otherwise, he would pick Mission: Space so that he could see people getting
sick. He also briefly considered Mickey’s PhilharMagic until he found out
that cast members don’t get to squirt water at the audience, that it’s all
    automated.
To submit your own questions for “Ask the Kid,” send
us your question to ask Mark’s son.
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from listener Julie in Pacifica, CA.
Julie experienced a Magical Moment when she and her sister brought her 5-month-old
son to Disneyland and he received a “First Visit” button from a
cast member named Bonnie at a gift shop (Pieces of Eight?) near Pirates of
    the Caribbean.
She also wanted to know if we had any information about the Disney museum
being built in the Presidio. Mark had very limited information, but the Walt
    Disney Family Museum’s web
site is currently hosted by the Walt Disney Company. There is some information
available online from the Presidio web
site and in an article on the American Institute of Architects web
    site.

for the podcasts. The MouseStation Hustle-tini Meet will begin at 5:30 p.m.
at Classic Concoctions in the Everything Pop food court at Disney’s Pop Century
Resort for Bluetinis to get our nerve up to get up and boogie. We’ll make
sure that we’re in the lobby before 6 p.m. so that we can do The Hustle, then
return to Classic Concoctions or elsewhere to record some more for the podcast.
For more information on the Hustle-tini or any other MousePlanet-sponsored
meet at MouseFest, check out our MouseFest
