Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes from listener Liana from Simi Valley. (Send
in your tip now!)
Liana recommends taking advantage of the Baby Care Centers at each of the
theme parks. It’s a nice, clean, quiet place for diaper changes, feedings,
or just taking a break, and it’s cool during the summer. The staff is very
friendly. Liana likes it so much she even tells other moms in the park about
it.
Mike hasn’t had any need to use the Baby Care Centers yet, but Mark and his
wife used them for The Kid extensively when he was a baby and a toddler. They’ve
got areas for nursing, microwaves for preparing formula or other meals, and
child-sized potties. They also have baby care items on hand that you can buy
if you ran out while in the park or forgot to bring something. Of course,
they only carry the sponsoring brands, but they’ve at least got something.
Featured attraction
This week, we look at Festival of the Lion
King in Fantasyland at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mike and Mark found an error in the description on the park guide page (it
has since been fixed).
Mark talked about where the floats used in the show came from, and the role
that it had in the death of the Beastlie Kingdomme land planned for the second
phase of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mark classed it as the best live entertainment show in any Disney park until
Finding Nemo – The Musical debuted. Mike (of course) still ranks it as number
1.
Mike talked about the mini-show/meet-and-greet that they do if the show breaks
down. He also talked about the Puppetronic float characters and how they work.
Mike’s favorite part of the show is the opening segment. Mark has a hard
time picking a favorite part. His candidates include the parade of kids with
instruments, the aerial act, the fire juggler and the Tumble Monkeys.
Mark quizzed Mike on what sound a zebra makes. After Mike described the sound,
they both realized that they were talking about the giraffe section, as there
was no zebra section of the theater.
Review system spotlight
This week’s spotlight focuses on Casey’s Corner at Walt Disney World’s Magic
Kingdom. MousePlanet readers really enjoy Casey’s, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets on the strength of 5 reviews. Our featured
review this week is a 4-planet review by amc1217 of San Antonio, TX.
amc loves Casey’s because it has become a tradition for him to eat there.
He just wishes that they sold potato chips, not just fries. He also likes
the ducks that hang out near the seating area.
Since Mike doesn’t eat beef, he doesn’t generally get food at Casey’s, but
he feels that it’s the most refreshing place to get a Coke.
Mark disputes the park guide’s description of the seating area, as long as
it’s not at peak meal times. It’s a great place to grab a seat, listen to
some nice ragtime piano and people-watch. The meal-size, quarter-pound hot
dogs taste really great to Mike. The Kid sometimes has the corn dog nuggets
there, and he loves them. On Mark’s last trip to Walt Disney World, Casey’s
proved to be very convenient on his last day in the park.
Mike prefers Coke Corner in Disneyland over Casey’s because he had a Magical
Moment there.

Six Degrees of The Lion King
This week, we tried out a new segment called “Six Degrees of The
Lion King.” In it, Mark will give Mike other entertainment offerings
(attractions, movies, etc.) and Mike will have to link them to his favorite
movie in six steps or less.
The attraction, Finding Nemo – The Musical, was easy, as Michael Curry
did the puppets for both that show and the Broadway production of The Lion
King.
The Disney movie, The Rescuers, proved very easy, as writer Burny
Mattinson worked on both movies.
The video game, Age of Empires, took a bit more effort on Mike’s part. Mike
tried to use its ESRB rating, which Mark shot down because it would be like
saying that The Rescuers and The Lion King were both rated G.
Mike came up with the fact that Age of Empires won an editor’s choice on multiple
PC sites along with Kingdom Hearts, which has Lion King segments in it. Mark
ruled the video game topic a dud.

Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from listener Dan the Light Man from Golden, CO.
Dan called in about how he and his wife Nancy were made the Family of the
Day at the Grand Floridian Resort when they arrived on their 24th anniversary
trip. Among other things, they had their room upgraded for th length of their
trip.
Mike talked about the process for selecting Families of the Day at Pop Century,
and what other options he had for helping people celebrate their special occasions.
