Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s
Locker, a new service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only
stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
This week, we had a voicemail from Big Brian of the Mousin’
It Up podcast, who had a neat idea on how to use an Owner’s Locker. It’s
an interesting place for an off-site backup for your computer.
If you have any other great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve
signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used
your locker, send us an
email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes in a voicemail from listener Kim Barron. (Send
in your tip now!)
Kim recommends layering your clothes when you visit, especially over the
winter months because it can get cold, especially at night. Kim talked about
a particularly cold day last year during MouseFest.
Mark remembered the day that Kim was talking about. He started out the day
at Disney’s Animal Kingdom thinking that it wouldn’t be too bad. Of course,
that park is a good five degrees or more warmer than any other park at Walt
Disney World. He was still doing OK when the day shifted to the Studios, but
then it kept getting colder. He was freezing by the time that he left the
park. (Mike had to buy a sweatshirt himself that evening because he didn’t
have anything warm with him.)
Featured attraction
This week, we had recorded a look at Primeval
Whirl in Dinoland, U.S.A. at the Disney’s Animal Kingdom. However, due
to the accident at the attraction that led to the death of cast member Karen
Price, we have decided to hold off and run the piece on another show. Mike
worked with Karen, and remembers her as a nice person who was always easy
to talk to. Our thoughts are with the Price family.
Review system spotlight
This week’s spotlight focuses on Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort. MousePlanet
readers really like Kona Cafe, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets on the strength of 16 reviews. Our featured
review this week is a 4-planet review by Chicago Wookiee (a.k.a. listener
Anthony Uriaus) of Chicago, IL.
Anthony and his companion visited for breakfast, and both ordered fruit smoothies
and the famed Tonga Toast. They both enjoyed their feast, and they overheard
a diner at the next table mentioning how good their Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes
were. Despite how noisy it was, they would definitely return again.
Mike ate at Kona Cafe twice during last year’s MouseFest, once with Mark
and a bunch of other MouseFesters, and once for the MouseFan Cafe breakfast
meet. He really enjoys eating there, and he agrees that the Macadamia Pineapple
Pancakes are really good.
Mark only ate at Kona once, but it was a great lunch. While Mark hasn’t had
Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe, he had it at Captain Cook’s downstairs at the Polynesian
during the January press event, and it is something that must be experienced.
Mark did eat at Kona Cafe before it was Kona Cafe twice while on his honeymoon
back in 1987. Unfortunately, he can’t recall the name of the restaurant before
it was Kona Cafe. If you know what it used to be called, please let
him know.
You can also find Kona Cafe in our Park Guide.
Guess That Character
This week, we tried out another new segment, this one called “Guess
That Character.” In it, Mark selected a character from a Disney
film and Mike had 20 questions to guess which who it is.
This week, it took Mike all 20 questions to figure out which character Mark
had picked.
It took 12 questions for Mike to determine that the character was from Peter
Pan.
He had it down to a boy related to Wendy with two questions left, and it
took both of them to decide that it was Michael Darling.
To submit your opinion on whether or not we should try “Guess That Character”
again or to submit your own ideas, send
us an email or call our toll-free voicemail.
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from listener Patrick Toohill.
Patrick actually submitted a string of moments that illustrated how the little
things that cast members do every day are probably more magical than the big
“Dreams” being given away as part of the Year of a Million Dreams.
Mark was impressed that she was able to figure out that they were giving
out Dream Fastpasses from someone racing past her muttering “Fastpasses!”
Feedback and MouseFest
We want to remind you about our contest to encourage you to donate to Broadway
Care/Equity Fights AIDS. Everyone that donates to the cause through Mike’s
donor page will receive an entry into the random drawing for an “Anything
Can Happen” bookmark signed by Nicole Bocchi and Henry Hodges, who played
Jane and Michael Banks the night that Mike saw the show. The bookmark includes
a nickel-sized star that was part of a costume worn in the show during the
grand finale. The bookmark says “Mary Poppins, Broadway 2007.” You
can also see a picture of it in our show notes from November
21. This phase of the fundraising campaign runs through December 4, so
you’ve got until then to donate. It doesn’t matter how much you give. Any
donation
will get you entered into the contest.
Send us feedback via email or by
calling our toll-free feedback line at 1-866-939-2278. Don’t forget that we
love voicemails because then we can put your voice on the show!
We’re coming up on our one-year anniversary, so we’d love to hear what changes
you’d like to hear us make in the show for our second year. It doesn’t matter
how radical the changes are, or how brutal the comments, let us hear what
you think!
We also wanted to remind you about our MouseFest meet for the podcast. The
MouseStation Hustle-tini Meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Classic Concoctions
in the Everything Pop food court at Disney’s Pop Century Resort this Sunday!
We’ll also be at PodFest on Friday, as well as all other MousePlanet-sponsored
meets. For more information on the Hustle-tini or any other MousePlanet-sponsored
meet at MouseFest, check out our MouseFest
