Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s
Locker, a new service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only
stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
This week, Mark and Mike talked about their lockers. Mark has really filled
his locker up since his first visit, and it’s really heavy. He actually had
to force the cover on. He’s got water, soda, shampoo, laundry detergent and
fabric softener, umbrella and ponchos, a sunshade for the car, as well as
MousePlanet shirts, buttons, cards and other paraphernalia.
Mike left all of his over-the-counter medication for his cold and allergies
in the organizer so that he doesn’t have to pay tourist-corridor prices to
restock when he goes back down. He’s also got soda, energy drinks, MousePlanet
buttons, an extra microphone for use only at MouseFest and the beginning of
his glow cube collection.
If you have any other great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve
signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used
your locker, send us an
email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Mike and Mark talked a bit about their MouseFest experiences to date before
getting to the rest of the show.
Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes in a voicemail from listener Kim Barron. (Send
in your tip now!)
Kim recommended renting ECVs rather than trying to push it, because then
you won’t have issues related to walking or standing around. She also recommends
renting from outside agencies so that you’ve got the ECV at the hotel, at
Downtown Disney, etc.
Mark and Mike both support both of Kim’s recommendations. Mike notes that
having an ECV outside the park can be inconvenient when there are many people
waiting with ECVs or wheelchairs for the resort buses, as they are limited
in the number of mobility devices that they can load at one time.
Featured attraction
Even though we looked at it in Episode 6, this week we’re taking another
look at the Country Bear Jamboree in Frontierland
at the Magic Kingdom because we’ve got the opinions of everybody at the Hustle-tini
meet, despite some poor audio due to problems with Mark’s microphone.
Mark and Mike both really like the attraction, even though it’s really cheesy.
Mark told the story of how the attraction was “Walt’s Last Laugh.”
Big Brian, talked about how he enjoyed it growing up in California, and how
Paul Barrie has a great
site dedicated to the attraction.
Grace enjoys the attraction because she’s a country girl at heart and she
loves to sing along. It helps to keep her young despite the fact that she’s
84.
Someone else (Nancy?) noted that they love Liver Lips McGrowl, who dresses
up as Elvis in both of the seasonal specials.
John has always been a big fan, though he’s disappointed that they’re not
doing the Christmas show this year. He loves Big Al, as well as the
Scott loves the fact that they still haven’t taken out the political incorrectness
in the attraction, especially the in the number “Mama, Don’t Whup Little
Buford,” because “I think you should shoot him instead.” He
also loves the two seasonal special versions of the show, both the Vacation
Hoedown and Christmas shows. Even though Disney doesn’t use them any more,
he can at least listen to recordings of them.
Tracy enjoys the multiple versions of the show, end especially enjoys Trixie,
the Sun Bonnets and Wendell.
Review system spotlight
Even though we looked at it in Episode 11, this week we’re taking another
look at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland at Walt Disney
World’s Magic Kingdom. (MousePlanet readers really like Tony’s, rating
it 3.9 out of five planets on the strength of 13 reviews.)
Mike’s not a big fan because there are a limited number of choices that he’s
not allergic to. Mark loves it, though, for the burgers and the salad bar…
er… fixings bar.
John loves Pecos Bill’s, not only for the food but for the decor. He loves
the atmosphere and loves eating there.
Tracy thinks that it’s pretty good. It always seems crowded, though you can
always find somewhere to sit. On the day of the Hustle-tini meet she and Scott
ate there after Lou Mongello and Jeff Pepper’s DSI meet (missing the mini-MouseAdventure
in the process), having a veggie burger and regular burger, respectively.
She’s disappointed that you have to get the cheese sauce separately for 50
cents apiece now. It’s not her favorite counter service restaurant at the
Magic Kingdom, though, which would probably be Cosmic Ray’s or Casey’s Corner.
Scott still wishes that they still had the cheese on the fixin’s bar, but
Casey’s is still his favorite counter service location in the park.
Rick thinks that the burgers are good, though he misses the cheese sauce.
Sandy likes the salads.
Nancy has never eaten at Pecos Bill’s, though she’ll have to try it next
time.
Grace prefers to be waited on. As a retiree, she loves the pace of table
service locations.
Big Brian thinks that it’s a good, basic counter service, and he got to use
one of his favorite touring strategies there the day of the meet, as there
was nobody waiting on the left side of the queues. Mike confused Brian in
asking what his favorite thing at Casey’s was. (Brian likes the chili dogs.)
After Mike steered it back to Pecos Bill’s, Brian noted that he liked the
chili that he had that day, but that the burgers are good, too. It depends
on what kind of mood you’re in.
Skipper thinks that Pecos Bill’s has the best toppings bar in any of the
theme parks. He noted that he sometimes makes a meal of the condiments alone.
(We will not reveal his identity, to protect him from the wrath of Mickey.)
Mark has eaten at the restaurant on many different occasions, and has had
a widely varying experience each time. If you try to get a table on the patio
for dinner during SpectroMagic, Mark recommends that you arrive early and
be prepared to wait a good, long while.
You can also find Pecos Bill’s in our Park
Guide.
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from listener Sean.
Sean’s family had a wonderful moment with Billy Hill and the Hillbillies
(the primary cast), when the frontman Billy played around with Sean’s son,
eventually playing “Smoke on the Water” to his son’s drum beat,
instead of the planned Country Bears song. We would have loved to have seen
that.
Six Degrees of Disney challenge
We’re now challenging you to play Six Degrees of Disney with us. Your challenge?
Link original Mickey Mouse cartoonist Ub Iwerks with Disney’s newest princess

Feedback and Other Stuff
We want to remind you about our contest to encourage you to donate to Broadway
Care/Equity Fights AIDS. Everyone that donates to the cause through Mike’s
donor page will receive an entry into the random drawing for an “Anything
Can Happen” bookmark signed by Nicole Bocchi and Henry Hodges, who played
Jane and Michael Banks the night that Mike saw the show. The bookmark includes
a nickel-sized star that was part of a costume worn in the show during the
grand finale. The bookmark says “Mary Poppins, Broadway 2007.” You
can also see a picture of it in our show notes from November
21. This phase of the fundraising campaign runs through December 4, so
you’ve got until then to donate. It doesn’t matter how much you give. Any
donation
will get you entered into the contest.
