Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s
Locker, a new service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only
stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
This week, we announced oiur plans for the next Owner’s Locker promotion.
We weren’t sure what would get listeners that are on the fence on whether
or not to buy into the portable storage unit with the money-back guarantee.
In consultation with John Van Meter from Owner’s Locker, we came up with the
idea of the “design your own promotion” promotion. From now through
January 30, send your thoughts on what would make a good promotion to get
you off the fence. A free Brita water pitcher? Ten dollars off? A MousePlanet
T-shirt? Whatever it is, email it
to us or call the toll-free feedback line. We’ll share all ideas with
John, who will announce the actual offered promotion on our February 4 show.
The promotion will then be valid through February 29.
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve
signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used
your locker, send us an
email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip comes from listener Sharla from Athens, GA. (Send
in your tip now!)
Sharla recommends avoiding the bag check line by wearing lots of pockets
instead of a bag. She wears a cargo skirt or shorts and her husband wears
a photographer’s vest, and they can carry everything they need while bypassing
the long line at the beginning of the day.
Mark isn’t sure how comfortable it would be for him, but agrees it’s a great
idea for those that can wear it without discomfort.
Mike and Mark got into a discussion of what they normally carry in to the
parks.
Featured attraction
This week we look at Stitch’s Great Escape
in Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
Mark talked about the difference between the current attraction and the location’s
prior tenant, ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Mike agreed that the Stitch
attraction is much less interesting than Alien Encounter.
Mark told the story of Paul Barrie and Patrick Hurd doing the attraction
as Patrick’s first attraction ever at Walt Disney World (audio
and video).
He also spoke about being the last guest
out of the chamber of Alien Encounter at the last public show ever.
All in all, it’s hard to recommend “Stitch’s Great Mistake.”
Review System Spotlight
This week we look at Disney’s Old Key West Resort at Walt Disney World. Our
MousePlanet readers really like Old Key West, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by coloradomousefan
of Aurora, CO.
coloradomousefan rented points from a DVC member and had a wonderful stay
at the resort. So wonderful, in fact, that they had to buy into DVC with points
at Old Key West. They loved the location and the view from their room.
Old Key West, of course, is Mark’s favorite resort. The atmosphere is so
laid back and the rooms are larger than at any other resort on property. The
three bedroom unit is absolutely huge. He has stayed in a three-bedroom three
times, for the legendary 23-person trip in 1999, the equally-legendary 40th
birthday trip, and in August 2006 with two other families.
Mike enjoys Old Key West, but it’s not one of his top picks because he doesn’t
get that “Disney feel” from the resort. Mark was disappointed in
Mike.
You can also find Disney’s Old Key West Resort in our Park
Guide.
Ask the Kid
Vance Cope asked Mark’s son: Where is your favorite place in a Disney Park
to just sit down and take a break?
Mark’s son apparently doesn’t like down time in the parks, because he’d prefer
to be in Tomorrowland or Rafiki’s Planet Watch for PUSH (the talking trash
can) or PIPA (the talking recycle can). He liked looking inside to see the
trash in the can and wondering if it’s wiring.
We were wondering why the recycle bin is called PIPA. If anybody knows why
it’s got that name, please let us know!
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from Mark. (Send
in your moment now!)
Mark and his son saw Mary Poppins (his wife was sick) last summer. His son’s
reaction when Mary Poppins flew right in front of them, just feet away, during
the show was priceless. Mark teared up again after the opening measure of
“Feed the Birds” during the show. Mike decided not to trump Mark’s
moment with his backstage experience at the show.
