Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
This week, we had hoped to have John Van Meter on the show to talk about the “John and Brian go shopping for you” promotion, a.k.a. the “Free Starter Kit for your locker” promotion, but we had to cancel the recording session due to Mark’s family emergency. That doesn’t mean that the promotion isn’t in full swing, though! From now through the end of the month (March 31, 2008), when you select “I Heard About it on MousePlanet” in the “How did you hear about Owner’s Locker?” drop-down box, Owner’s Locker will send you a shopping list and you can pick up to $25 worth of items on the list. If you’d like something that’s not on the list, you can contact them and they’ll work it out with you. This is a great way to both get your big purple storage locker and possibly avoid that first-day shopping trip at the same time!
We’ll try again to have John on the show next week to talk about the offer, and we hope to be able to share the first iteration of what will be on the starter shopping list at that time. In the meantime, start thinking about what items you might want as a kind of starter kit for your locker, so that you can take advantage of this cool offer! In fact, why don’t you send us a list of items that you want John to include on the shopping list for you to choose from?
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
This week’s audio was a little odd, as Mike had to record via phone due to the rescheduling after Mark had to cancel our scheduled session.
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from listener Kate Tillan, who has a great idea for managing her son’s pin trading lanyard. (Send in your own tip now!)
Kate starts the day with her son’s lanyard empty and six trading pins in her pocket. When her son is ready to trade, she doesn’t have to try to pry the pin off of the lanyard, and her son’s lanyard isn’t heavy at the beginning of the day.
Mark doesn’t trade pins much, and Mike uses a hip pad instead of a lanyard.
Around the Station
Mike and Mark continued their exploration of the MouseStation, with Mike examining the outside of the ship in his space suit. Mark had recently found a Walt Disney World TenCennial hat, and a piece of paper with the real name of Destiny Law, though the paper was ripped and the real name was missing. Mike found that someone had carved “Simba Rules” into the side of the MouseStation. So if we develop a hole in the ship, it’s Mike’s fault. Mike also found a traditional E-ticket booklet along with a copy of the Al Gore Internet message. Mark found some confetti from a parade in a rarely-used drawer.
Mike and Mark (with Steven’s help) re-enacted this original Sean Jones strip on today’s show. Click on the strip for a larger image.
Out of the Park
This week, we revisited a new segment that we first tried in Episode 102, where we talk about something fun to do outside the theme parks. This week, we talked about the Fantasia Gardens miniature golf complex. The complex actually has two courses, Fantasia Gardens and Fantasia Fairways.
Fantasia Gardens is themed around the various segments of the movia Fantasia, with many segments of the movie represented by a few holes each. Other segments, such as The Rites of Spring, are not represented at all. Mark gave an overview of the entire course, and referred to the photo tour that he did on the course back in April, 2006.
Fantasia Fairways is actually a full golf course shrunk down to miniature size, complete with sand traps and water hazards. It was extremely frustrating for Mark and his wife when they played it. Mike didn’t complain so much.
Mike has experienced long waits requiring set tee times, while Mark has never had to wait and the course was always practically empty.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question came in a voicemail from Hallie Sternberg of Howell, NJ, who asked Mark’s son “If you could vote for a Disney character for president, who would you vote for?” She also made a cute comment about making the call to ask the question.
Mark’s son had a reasonable rationale for suggesting Eddie Valiant, and a really funny thought on why Roger Rabbit wouldn’t make a good candidate for president or vice president. We’re still not sure how he eventually came up with WALL-E as his VP candidate.
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment comes from listener Marian Sargent. (Send in your moment now!)
Marian’s father lost a special trading pin while at Flame Tree BBQ, and a cast member and a manager both went to great extremes to try to get the pin back for him.
