Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
We finally managed to avoid any unscheduled emergencies (just barely) and were able to have John Van Meter from Owner’s Locker join us to talk about the “Free Starter Kit for your locker” promotion, a.k.a. “John and Brian go shopping for you.” John really likes this idea because it finally gives him an idea of how to implement the pre-loaded locker idea that they’d been thinking about for a while.
From now through the end of the month (March 31, 2008), when you select “I Heard About it on MousePlanet” in the “How did you hear about Owner’s Locker?” drop-down box, Owner’s Locker will send you a shopping list and you can pick up to $25 worth of items on the list. If you’d like something that’s not on the list, you can contact them and they’ll work it out with you. This is a great way to both get your big purple storage locker and possibly avoid that first-day shopping trip at the same time!
With Mark’s locker holding his necessities, he expects to be able to go down to Walt Disney World for his upcoming May research trip with only a carry-on.
We’ve also heard a rumor that the DVC studios are going to switch to styrofoam cups and paper plates, replacing the coffee mugs and glasses. If that’s the case, Owner’s Locker may offer an additional option of a “Studio Starter Kit” that includes reusable plastic plates and Owner’s Locker coffee mugs.
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from listener Vance Cope, who recommends taking a DVC sales presentation, even if you have no intention of buying in, in order to get the free ice cream and free Fastpasses at the end. (Send in your own tip now!)
Mark and Mike disagree as to whether or not this is a good tip. Mike thinks that it’s a great tip and has done it more than once, because he gets to find out more about DVC and he gets free transportation and sometimes a free counter service dinner. Mark feels that you’re wasting the time of the DVC salespeople and raising costs for existing members. Mike argues that he’s interested in finding out about DVC and may think about buying some time in the future. They agreed to disagree on this one.
Around the Station
Mike and Mark continued to show off the various features aboard the Station. This week, Mike showed off the Random Lion King Phrase Generator that he hacked into the system, much to Mark’s chagrin. (For info about the “Push the button, Frank” comment, it’s linked to this week’s strip. Go here.) We’ve also got another great new comic from Sean Jones. At the suggestion of Brian Martsolf, we’ve now set up a page dedicated to archiving all of the “@ The Station” strips to make it easy for you to find them. We’ve got three more from Sean already that you haven’t seen yet, and they just keep getting better!
Mark and Mike aren’t the only ones stranded on the station. Find out more about Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo here. Click on the strip for a larger image.
Stump the Hosts
Thanks to listener (and new MousePlanet columnist) Steve Russo, we revived the old Stump the Hosts segment, now one of our Collected Short Subjects.
This week, Steve tried to stump us with two questions, without any luck.
Question #1: Where (in the World) have you heard this phrase…”Take cover! She’s gonna blow!” Mark had it, and it only took a little prompting for Mike to get it.
Question #2 In 1988, magician Doug Henning was a consultant for the creation of which Walt Disney World “attraction”?: Mark knew this from the first five words, but it took quite a while to steer Mike toward the answer on this one.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question came from Jeff Peterson of Ramona, CA, who asked Mark’s son the loaded, divisive question “Which musical show do you like better, Festival of the Lion King or Finding Nemo – The Musical?”
Mark’s son likes the music from Nemo but the Festival of the Lion King is way more interactive, so he deemed it a tie. Somehow, he came out with a political answer that didn’t let Mark and Mike claim victory in the Nemo vs. Simba battle.
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment comes from listener Kate Tillan. (Send in your moment now!)
Kate’s Magical Moment took place over time, starting last June when she and her husband did the Dine with an Imagineer dinner at Artist Point with Show Producer Eric Goodman. Eric told them about working on two projects that he was working on for Innoventions, the new Waste Management and Velcro exhibits.
Fast-forward to this past January, when she was at Walt Disney World with her sister, and she was selected to see a demonstration of a new show for Innoventions, which turned out to be the Velcro exhibit, emceed by Jason Surrell. She didn’t see Eric then, but later saw him walking toward Mission: Space carrying the Velcro show sign and she smiled at him and he said hello back. It was cool seeing the project go full cycle.
Mike remembered creating a Magical Moment as a cast member and then continually running into the same family in different parks all over property as he was doing fill-in jobs around the World.
Mark remembered running into a guest relations cast member that he knew while Mark was with his family and the cast member was running a tour, and Mark’s family was impressed that he knew him.
Mike and Mark then reminisced about being recognized from the podcast while in the parks.
