Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes from listener Stanton Wong, who recommended that one
member of your party serve as the official holder of admission tickets and
FastPasses. This will make sure that nobody accidentally misplaces their individual
ticket or FastPass. He also suggested having one of the kids walk quickly
to get the FastPasses to minimize walking for the whole group and ease congestion
in the distribution area. Just be sure to give people back their admission
tickets if they leave the park.

Mike mentioned Disney’s “official FastPass holder,” a lanyard with
a retractable cord, plastic pouch and zipper that says “official FastPass
holder” on it. Mark doesn’t see much use for it, though he knows that
PassPorter’s PassPockets are very popular. Mike uses his wallet, which now
only weighs 10 pounds, down 25 percent.

Featured attraction

This week, we look at Living with the Land
in the Land pavilion at Epcot. After much
discussion, Mike and Mark finally agreed that the listing of greenhouses in
the Park Guide are indeed in the correct order.

After noting that he still misses the original Sherman Brothers “Listen
to the Land” song, Mark mentioned that (for those who haven’t been on
the attraction recently) the boat drivers are no longer there. Instead, you
board the boat and then listen to a recorded spiel for the entire journey.

For a better look at what’s going on inside the greenhouses, Mark and Mike
both recommend the Behind
the Seeds
tour, which you can sign up for at the desk that looks like
an airline counter to the left of the entrance to Soarin’. The tour costs
$14 for adults, $10 for children ages 3-9.

Mike likes doing a grand tour of the attractions in the Land pavilion to
get the full story of the environment.

Review system spotlight

This week’s spotlight focuses on Pizza Oom Mow Mow at Disney’s California
Adventure. The week’s featured review was a 3-planet review by Nancywitt of
Pittsburgh, PA. MousePlanet readers are fairly positive on Pizza Oom Mow Mow,
rating
it 3.3 out of five planets
on the strength of 8 reviews.

Nancy’s family doesn’t really do sit-down meals in the parks, so pizza is
a great alternative. Her sons really liked the pizza there. Her husband thought
that the Caesar salad was just OK. She thought that the BBQ Chicken Pizza
was good but not great. She wouldn’t recommend the place for just adults,
but it’s fine for kids

Mark was surprised to realize that Mike is too young to remember the song
“Papa Oom Mow Mow” that the restaurant is named after, and sang
a little bit. Thankfully, nobody got hurt. You can find the lyrics here,
a video of The Beach Boys performing it here
and part of the audio of the original recording by The Rivingtons can be accessed
here.

Mike thought that it was decent, but would prefer to go to Naples if he was
going to have pizza, and would rather go to another dining establishment at
DCA than Pizza Oom Mow Mow. He does think that it’s better than Pinocchio’s
Pizzeria in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

Mark and his family had food from there twice during his last family trip
to California, since his son was sick and there weren’t too many things that
would not upset his stomach. They ate there once when he could leave the room,
and his wife went out and brought food back to the room from there once. (The
cast members at the restaurant made it sound like it was not unusual for people
to bring food from there back to the room.) Mark thought that the pizza was
just OK, but that the Far-Out Chicken Fusilli was pretty decent for theme
park food.

Guide

Ask the Kid

In this week’s segment, listener Steve Russo asked Mark’s 8-year-old son:
“Do you have a favorite time of year to visit Walt Disney World and why?”

Mark’s son found it easy to answer this one, selecting the time frame between
Thanksgiving and New Year’s for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the
holiday tag for Illuminations. Mark wasn’t surprised at all that he went for
that, either. Neither was Mike. It’s pretty hard to beat the Illuminations
holiday tag.

Magical Moment

This week’s moment came from Eddie
Carroll
, the current voice of Jiminy Cricket. Eddie finally got his first
chance to see SpectroMagic and Wishes
for the first time at last year’s East Coast NFFC convention, watching it
from the in-park command center. Watching Wishes to hear his voice as Jiminy
narrating the show put a huge lump in his throat.

Mike and Mark were surprised to hear that Eddie had never seen either SpectroMagic
or Wishes before. Mike mentioned that Ellen DeGeneres recently mentioned that
she had never seen Ellen’s Energy Adventure.
Mike shamelessly offered Ellen MouseStation
merchandise
if she would answer the question of whether or not she had
seen the Nemo attraction at the Seas pavilion.
