Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes from listener Deborah Kwan, who recommends using strollers
as portable lockers, especially for Disneyland Premium Annual Passholders,
who get a stroller rental for free each day.
It’s great for having your stuff with you wherever you are, and avoids the
crush at the lockers. Mark knows that Deb Wills uses it to cart all of her
stuff around during MouseFest (which is probably better for her back than
toting it around in a backpack like Mark does).
Featured attraction
This week, we look at Mulholland Madness
in the Paradise Pier district at Disney’s California
Adventure . Mike and Mark have each been on the attraction once, and neither
was thrilled with it. Mark rode it in 2005, used the single rider entrance,
and didn’t have to wait at all to get on. He’s glad that he didn’t have to
wait, because it wouldn’t have been worth the wait.
Mark rates it at a 2.5 out of 5, while Mike gives it a 2.
Review system spotlight
This week’s spotlight focuses on Olivia’s at Disney’s
Old Key West Resort. The week’s featured review was a 4-planet review
by AndyMan of Atlanta, GA. MousePlanet readers really like Olivia’s, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets on the strength of 5 reviews.
Andy and his wife had some difficulty with their food one morning at Olivia’s,
though they got food to go the next morning and it was great.
Mark and his family often eat at Olivia’s for lunch on their arrival day
between check-in and having their room become available. He notes that the
service is usually at traditional Key West speed, in that the food will get
there sooner or later. He loves the food there. The decor of the restaurant
and the hallway outside is solid walls of photos of DVC members and their
families on their vacations that were contributed in response to a request
when the resort first opened.
You can also find Olivia’s in our Park Guide.
Ask the Kid
In this week’s segment, we revisited listener
Maryann Fekete’s earlier question, where she asked Mark’s 8-year-old son:
“If you could ADD one thing any place in WDW- and it didn’t matter how much
it cost or how big it was, what would it be?”
This time, Mark’s son had been thinking about a new attraction for a while,
so he was prepared. He wanted to add a launched freefall-type roller coaster
to Adventureland, that he had really thought out the entire ride.
Mark’s son spent a great deal of time coming up with ideas for his launched
freefall-type coaster idea. This is one of the cleanest drawings of “Tiki-cano”
that still exists.
Mike and Mark talked a little more about Mark’s son designing theme parks,
and his current obsession with Roller
Coaster Tycoon 2. He’s also spent quite a lot of time with Ultimate
Ride: Disney Coaster, and Mark has a feeling that Roller
Coaster Tycoon 3 is in their future, as well.
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from Steven Ng’s sister-in-law Laurie Ng, during
the NFFC convention in Anaheim. Laurie had some wonderful one-on-one time
with Margaret Kerry, with whom she spends some time at each NFFC convention.
This time, Laurie was walking around with a cane instead of using the wheelchair
that she usually uses, and Margaret was so happy to see her out of the wheelchair
that she did something extra-special for Laurie.
