Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes from listener Greg, who recommended measuring your
children against the height requirements of various attractions before you
leave home in order to avoid disappointment at the parks.

Mark remembers his friend John’s son knew all about height requirements, and when – at his annual physical – the doctor said that he was over 40 inches tall, he turned to his parents and said “Now I can go on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.”

Featured attraction

This week, we look at Peter Pan’s Flight both in Fantasyland at both
Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World’s
Magic Kingdom .

The attraction is one of the most popular in both parks, with lines getting
very long throughout the day.

There are many differences between the two versions, both with ride vehicles
and show scenes. The West Coast Pan has independently-moving pirate ships,
which stop to let people on and off, while the East Coast version is a continuously-loading
system. Apparently, while they can slow it down to allow someone to board,
they can’t stop it without the attraction going down and the need to evacuate
everyone with ladders.

Mark enjoys many parts of the attraction, from the character silhouettes
flying across the moon to the takeoff, to the pirate ship scenes. Mike likes
the attraction, but isn’t willing to wait too long to ride.

Mark loves Peter Pan, thinking about all of the great things about Peter.
Mike once again finds the dark side, talking about the prequels written by
Dave Barry and Ridley Scott..

Review system spotlight

This week’s spotlight focuses on Yakitori House at Epcot’s
Japan pavilion. The week’s featured review
was a 5-planet review by DVCTiff of Hudson Valley, NY. MousePlanet readers really
like Yakitori House, rating
it 4.5 out of five planets
on the strength of 2 reviews.

DVCTiff and her husband enjoyed the food and location, and were happy with
the price.

Mike had high expectations, but was disappointed by the menu, so he had the
green tea. They gave him Lipton green tea. Having worked selling loose leaf
tea, he had much higher expectations of a Japanese eatery.

Mark really likes the place. It’s a quick place to go because it’s not usually
crowded because people don’t usually think to go up there. Mark enjoys to
order the Tempura Shrimp Udon or Miso Soup with Teriyaki Chicken.

You can also find Yakitori House in our Park
Guide
.

Ask the Kid

This week was a special edition of “Ask the Grown-Up,” as Mark’s son asked
if he could ask the question for a change. He lobbed a softball at Mark, asking
him what his favorite hotel to stay in at all Disney parks was.

Of course, Mark said that Old Key West was his favorite. His favorite non-DVC
resort is the Polynesian Resort. Mike then picked on Mark for continuing to
push Old Key West, so we got into a little discussion of Old Key West vs.
Pop Century.

Magical Moment

This week’s moment came from listener Big Brian of the Mousin’
It Up Podcast
. Brian had a couple of nice moments with the Dapper Dans.
The first night of his trip, he caught some of their set, and he took a bunch
of photos but they were all in the shade. As they were walking off, he asked
them to wait for a photo, and they came back to take a picture in the sunlight.
The next morning, he was asking a cast member to find out where the Dans were
going to perform their next show, and the cast member that he asked turned
out to be their stage manager, and he was able to get them right where he
wanted them.
