MouseStation 27 – Collected short subjects
(Download
show – Main podcast page)
Run time 0:32:45
We have cut the podcast into multiple, smaller shows starting with this show
in order to make it accessible to those who may not be able to listen to 90-minute
or so shows. We’ve broken MouseStation into three 30-minute shows. (Times
are approximate, of course, as we have no idea how long we’re going to ramble
on any given topic.) Our new schedule features our collection of short subjects
on Monday, the full-length feature on Wednesday, MousePlanetWatch on Thursday
and listener feedback on Friday. We’d like your feedback on what you think
of the new schedule. Let us know what you
think!
Reminder: We have three separate feeds: one for MouseStation
only, one for MousePlanetWatch
only and one for both
in a single feed. This way, you can subscribe to whichever combination
you prefer.
Tip of the Week
This week’s tip came from listener Vance Cope, who reminded us of many places
to check for discounts, including employer programs, professional groups and
travel agents. Mark chimed in that the state employee union that he belongs
to provides a great ticket discount that he used to buy tickets for the rest
of his party when he traveled with friends last August. Mike also has been
able to get ticket discounts through most of his previous employers. Just
remember to use a reputable source.
Featured attraction
This week, we look at Monsters, Inc.: Mike
and Sulley to the Rescue at Disney’s California Adventure. Mike has never
been on the attraction, though he’s seen it virtually. Mark enjoyed it, and
pegged it as a “C” or low-“D” ticket attraction. Mark pointed out that many
of the sculptures and Animatronics are actually re-covered characters from
the original Superstar Limo attraction. He really liked the “disappearing
Randall”, “color-changing Randall” and door room effects, though.
Review system spotlight
This week’s spotlight focuses on ‘Ohana at the Polynesian Resort at Walt
Disney World. This week’s featured review was a 5-planet review by WDWFANATIC
of New Lenox, IL. MousePlanet readers enjoy ‘Ohana, as it was rated
4.4 out of five planets on the strength of 25 reviews.
Mark aired one of his pet peeves. The restaurant is called ‘Ohana, not O’Hana,
O’Hana’s or Ohana’s.
Mark thinks it’s OK, but misses the old menu. He finds that most people who
don’t remember the old menu enjoy it much more than those who miss the old
food. He does prefer the new dessert, though. Mike really enjoys it, but hasn’t
gone in a while.
You can also find ‘Ohana in our Park Guide.
Ask the Kid
In this week’s segment, listener Nicole Gonzales asked Mark’s 8-year-old
son: “If you could spend one day with your favorite Disney character, where
would you go with them in Walt Disney World and what would you do with them
during the day?”
Mark’s son is still working on picking a favorite character, but would take
them on his favorite attractions at Epcot.
Mike and Mark then went off on a tangent and talked about character autographs
and meet-and-greets.
Magical Moment
This week’s moment came from listener Jennifer Davis. Jennifer received a
great response to a complaint about a rude operator at the Disney reservations
call center that still resonates with her a year later.
Mark recalled a response to a positive email to Guest Communications regarding
two cast members who stayed after they were due to go off-duty in order to
resolve a situation that ended up saving his family’s vacation last Thanksgiving.
He actually received a phone call as he was about to walk into lunch at Kona
Cafe for a MouseFest gathering a couple of weeks later.
Mike recalled writing to Guest Communications to protest the new Magic Your
Way ticket plan as too costly a change for him.
If you want to contact Guest Communications to give kudos or complaints,
you can either send them email
or write to them at:
Walt Disney World Guest Communications
PO Box 10,040
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Mike and Mark also noted that all Magical Moments submitted to the show will
be printed out and hand-carried to Guest Services at Walt Disney World to
ensure that all special cast members are recognized.
