A Santa Wishlist

Dear Santa,

I know I should be writing something other than this letter but with Christmas coming soon I thought it was important to write to you as soon as possible.

This letter consists of a list of things I hope you can deliver sometime in 2006. These are things I would like to see happen at Walt Disney World. I know you can do special things Santa so here is my list for Magic Kingdom:

  • I’m getting tired of wondering if Timekeeper is ever open when I’m in Magic Kingdom. Is there anyway you can fix it so that this attraction is either open all the time or completely shuts down?
  • Every time I turn around I hear rumors about Carrousel of Progress seeing its last days. Please Santa… don’t ever let this attraction ever go away… it reminds me too much of Walt Disney himself.
  • You know Santa, I think it’s about time Magic Kingdom was given another sit-down restaurant. Hmm, maybe in Adventureland?
  • Speaking of restaurants and places to eat, could you do something about that Noodle Station? It’s had a yo-yo type of year. Please help it Santa. Help it either stay opened or help it go away… just help it.
  • I remember the first time I saw Kiss Goodnight. It was awesome, Santa. Now I hardly see it and never know if or when it’s going to be shown. Can you talk to the folks that run Magic Kingdom and ask them to run Kiss Goodnight 30 minutes after Wishes? I would really like that and so would all of my friends who have heard me rave about Kiss Goodnight.
  • Also Santa, make those Extra Magic Hour evenings go away and replace them with an e-Ride night. I don’t mind paying a fee to get in the park during e-ride night, especially if it’s limited to only 5,000 on-site guests. Also, all I want running are about nine popular attractions like all the mountains, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan’s Flight, Mickey’s Philharmagic, and Winnie the Pooh. Is that too much to ask? Oh yeah, let Magic Kingdom have two e-ride nights per week… Monday and Friday nights.

Here’s my list for Epcot:

  • I’m tired of these staggered openings. Please Santa; make it so that both World showcase and Future World have the same operating hours.
  • I know that Soarin’ is a pretty popular ride and that it runs out of FastPasses real quick. Can you fix it so that it never runs out of FastPass until closing time?
  • Speaking of Soarin’, there’s gotta be a better way of moving people around that Land Pavilion. Actually Santa, how about removing those escalators. I keep wondering if there will be an accident with people stopping right at the bottom of the escalators.
  • Boy I miss the original Figment attraction. Can we please have it back?
  • Santa, I really hate to see empty buildings in theme parks. Maybe you can figure out what type of a restaurant would work well where the old Odyssey restaurant used to operate on the edge of Future World. Gee do you think an international buffet would work here?
  • Santa will you tell the folks that operate the Maelstrom that they should just forgot about showing that film and let everyone go though that room?
  • I had so much fun a year or two ago when I saw those Living Statues in World Showcase. Bring them back Santa.
  • We need a parade in Epcot, Santa. If anyone can convince the Epcot people to create a parade I know it’s you.
  • Remember those double-decker busses that used to carry guests around World Showcase? Bring them back.
  • If Magic Kingdom can have e-Ride nights why can’t Epcot? I think Tuesday and Saturday nights are the perfect nights for Epcot to offer r-Ride night.
  • Epcot’s e-ride nights should offer Test track, Soarin’, Mission:Space; The Maelstrom, Imagination, Spaceship Earth, and the films shown in Canada, France, and China.

OK Santa, let’s now turn to Disney-MGM Studios:

  • I would love to see this park bring back Sorcery in the Sky, wouldn’t you Santa? I think it would be great to have Sorcery In the Sky shown on alternate nights instead of Fantasmic. That’s at the top of my list.
  • Again, I hate empty buildings in Disney theme parks, Santa, so could you do something with the ABC Theater building that used to house Superstar Television? Maybe you can bring back that attraction. I’m sure that’s on many lists.
  • Oh and do you think you could use your influence Santa to do something about that Sounds Dangerous attraction? I don’t mean fix it… I mean get rid of it. I really miss Monster Soundstage. Would it be too much to ask for its return?
  • Every time I walk by what used to be the theater where “Hunchback” was performed, I’m sad. It would be nice to see that theater reopen with a new show. This theme park could sure use another show. Works on this will you, Santa?
  • Just as I had mentioned for both Magic Kingdom and Epcot, I would like to see an e-Ride night devoted to Disney-MGM Studios. I think the two nights of the week for this theme park should be Wednesday and Sunday.
  • The attractions that should be open for a Disney-MGM Studios e-Ride night should be the Great Movie Ride, Muppet 3-D, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and Star Tours.
  • Come to think of it, Santa, this theme park does need a few more attractions. Add that to my list, please.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also on my list although I have only a few items for this theme park:

  • Santa, you know I have issues with DinoRama. Can you do something about this section of the park? Like I said months ago, it just doesn’t theme right.
  • This is a big one, Santa. Can you do anything to stop Tarzan Rocks! From leaving Disney’s Animal Kingdom? It seems like such a popular show that it’s a shame to see it go away.
  • With Expedition Everest opening in a few months, it seems to only make sense that a sit-down restaurant for the Asia section of Animal Kingdom should be in the plans. I know you like to eat Santa so you are in total agreement with me on this one.
  • I’m not sure if this theme park needs an e-Ride night. If we were going to designate an e-Ride night, then my suggestion would be Thursday night.
  • As far as attractions open for e-Ride night, that’s a problem. There really aren’t many attractions in this theme park that “work” at night. You could obviously keep “It’s Fun to be a Bug” open. The Safari attraction would not work at night. Running two performances of Festival of the Lion King is a possibility, as also for Tarzan Rocks! While it lasts. Of course if Expedition Everest was open that could also be included in the group. I guess—sigh—DinoRama could be included. Of course Dinosaur is on the list. It’s a tough decision, Santa, but it would be nice to give it a try.

OK Santa, up to now my list has focused on the specific theme parks. Now I’d like to go over my general list.

  • I really think it would be very helpful if guests could make their Advanced Dinner Reservations online. Of course if this was ever offered there would have to be some specific rules like:

    • Only resort guests and Annual Pass holders are allowed to make online reservations. Guests would have to use their reservation number to get into the system.
    • Online Advanced Dinner Reservations would be limited to one reservation per day per guest. If a second Advanced Dinner Reservation is needed for that day then a call to 407-W-DISNEY is needed.
    • A $5 fee is charged for use of the online Advanced Dinner Reservation system. This fee goes towards the price of your meal so you’re not paying extra. The idea here is to do whatever possible to insure that most Advanced Dinner Reservations made online are followed through by the guests.

  • It would be really nice Santa if Extra Magic Hour mornings were pushed back 30 minutes. Sometimes an hour is not enough. The Extra Magic Hour morning parks become extra crowded towards late morning so giving guests an extra 30 minutes would really be helpful.
  • I’ve often thought that some sort of a rewards system should be given to guests who are frequent visitors to the WDW resort. For instance, if a guest stays at a WDW resort for more than X number of days over a span of two years maybe a free counter service meal or a free snack would be nice to give the guest as a gesture of thanks for loyalty. Just a thought, Santa.
  • I guess just as sometimes when in a department store we feel there aren’t enough cashiers working, sometimes we feel that there are never enough security personnel to work the bag check points at the WDW theme parks. Gee Santa, can you make sure that in the future there are always plenty of checkpoints open to move the guests past that checkpoint as quickly as possible? Thanks.
  • You know Santa, back in the early 1990s it was fun to walk through a theme park and come across a band playing music. We don’t see as much of that anymore, yet the price of admission has obviously gone up. It sure would be nice to see this type of entertainment return to the parks, please.

I know it’s a long list Santa but I think I have made some important requests and I hope that you can grant me some of my wishes.

Santa, the more you can make come true the easier it will be for me and other guests to…

…Remember the magic!

Next Time

Reflections on 2005.
