I’m excited to announce, on MousePlanet, my newest and latest endeavor! It’s called “Disney at Work: Magic Kingdom®”, and it’s now available on the iPhone and iPod Touch!
Disney at Work is filled with scores of insights and hundreds of photos that focus on lessons in customer loyalty, leadership, creativity, and even change management. This interactive showcase allows you to go through all of the lands and attractions of the park, to learn fascinating details about how Disney really works
Even the biggest Disney fan will find something new they didn’t know before. This interactive showcase shares:
- Leadership stories of how Walt Disney and others built one of the greatest entertainment empires ever ;
- Onstage and up-close examples of how Disney pays attention to the details ;
- Outstanding industry and business ideas as practiced by management and operations in the park ;
- Little-known insights for how the culture of Walt Disney World succeeds in engaging cast members (employees) and delighting guests (customers) ;
- Behind-the-scene examples of how the back of the house supports the onstage operation
This section explores the idea of onstage/backstage in an organization. Thanks to Dave of Daveland for permission to use the photo.
What I love about this is that it’s so easy to carry around the park in the palm of your hand. That’s because it’s available on one of the most exciting high-tech devices ever. Most people know me as an individual who stands up and offers training and development seminars. I still do seminars on customer service, leadership, and team building, much as I did when I was at Disney Institute. But my roots at Disney did not begin there. They began by playing at the Palace. The Venetian Palace at Epcot’s Italy pavilion.
Early on, I was brought on with a unique group of folks to create an interactive multimedia showcase of Walt Disney World for the marketing group. It was the mid 1990s and, at the time, there was no Disney.com, and no place where you could go and click around on a computer to see details about the Walt Disney World complex. They wanted to create dedicated kiosks where marketing and sales people could demonstrate the wide possibilities for having a meeting or event at Disney: Click here to see different group events at the parks or click here to see ballroom space at the various resorts. I created their first interactive guide to Disney, and my office was above Italy at Epcot.
Those were exciting times creating new software for Disney, and doing so in the heart of World Showcase. But even that work, was limited to viewing on dedicated computers. With this App, you can walk through the park with your iPhone in hand. It’s much better than having to carry around a book. And there’s scores of examples, as well as hundreds of photos. All available at your fingertips.
With this App in hand, you can navigate your way through Main Street, to see details you may have never noticed before. Photo by Jeff Kober.
And this is only the first of many Apps to come. Work is underway on a wonderful App that explores the excitement of Epcot. We’ll offer an App for each park, plus one that covers the rest of the Walt Disney World resort, and another that covers all of Orlando. Then it’s on to Disneyland and the international parks. If you love the insights of Disney, it’s a collection that you will definitely want to acquire.
And for the first 15 people who sends me a note at jkober@performancejourneys.com, I’m offering a code to download the App on their iPhone or iPod Touch for free! Please use the phrase, “Dole Whip” in the title of your e-mail (by the way I talk about Dole Whips in the app as well. We talk about everything!).
Disney at Work: Magic Kingdom® will make you see the park in a way you’ve never thought before. Most importantly, it will make you think about how you approach work in a way you never thought before!
