Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
The cost of an Owner’s Locker isn’t quite as high when you think about the per-bag fees that many airlines are now charging. It’s a risk-free trial, so why not give it a try? Mike just got back from seeing his locker last week, while Mark will be visiting his locker in a few days.
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from Stanton Wong, who recommends taking photos with the castle from the side, because it’s less crowded and the improved angle makes it a more interestng shot. This helps you to avoid the crowds out front.
Mark mentioned that it’s a popular tip of MousePlanet staff photographer Frank Anzalone, and also mentioned several angles that work well for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Featured Attraction
This week we look at Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mark talked about getting drenched regularly on the attraction. Mike didn’t get quite that wet quite that regularly. Mark noted that some people wear ponchos on the attraction. He also noted that if you want to keep your shoes dry, take them off and put them in the waterproof compartment in the middle of the raft, but he neglected to say that you have to have something on your feet on the attraction.
Mark said that he and his family will often bring a change of clothing to the park to get out of their drenched clothing before continuing to walk around the park, or leaving the park right after riding to go dry off.
Ask the Experts
Robb Rockwell from Illinois asked whether Year of a Million Dreams was primarily a way to return some of the magic that was taken away from the guests, a really good marketing strategy or both. Mike said that it was both. Mark said that it was primarly a marketing strategy but that it did result in giving some extra magic to the guests, even if it wasn’t the primary purpose of the campaign.
Walt Disney World news update
We decided to provide some Walt Disney World news for those who did not read Mark’s Park Update yesterday or his blog last week.
First, reservations for special events during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival open next Monday at 7 a.m. Follow the link for a complete listing.
Next, discounts for Passholders, Florida residents and everyone else have been released for most dates between September 28 through December 23.
Last Week on MousePlanet
We continued our experiment in telling you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly, with Andrew Rich down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters. Let us know what you think about this segment!

Listener Feedback
Kirsten wrote to ask that we keep the featured attraction and short subjects shows. While she likes the MousePlanetWatch News, most of it is already on the website, and she would miss Review System Spotlight, Ask the Kid or any of the other segments on the show. She also commented that the Last Week on MousePlanet segment uses the same music as her favorite Heroes podcast uses on their podcast for a segment.
Samuel said that he would like to see the company news come back as either a column or as part of the short subject show.
Sondra had no idea that the the park news updates were available on the MousePlanet Web site. She doesn’t mind reading them instead, now that she knows where to find them. She would love to read the Disney Company news there if it could be added. She also enjoys the last week/this week/next week segment because it reminds her to check out the articles she misses when she forgets to check out the Web site. She also spurred some more Simba/Nemo smackdown between Mark and Mike.
Big Brian called in response to Mark and Mike’s request that he provide some alternative suggestions for news shows for those who want their news on a podcast. Brian provided a few shows that do news, though there are really no podcasts exclusively about the news. Brian also suggested sampling other candidates before subscribing through the Disney Podcast Directory. He’d rather we didn’t go back to doing the news, but if we do he’ll listen to it because we do a good news show
