Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
The cost of an Owner’s Locker isn’t quite as high when you think about the per-bag fees that many airlines are now charging. It’s a risk-free trial, so why not give it a try? Mike and Mark are both looking forward to visiting their lockers this month. Mike will see his locker just days from now.
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from Dave in San Francisco, who recommends using sounds and smells to help you combat post-trip Disney withdrawal. Dave bought a park music CD and found the same Bath & Body Works coconut lime verbena products that they use at the Swan Resort. Dave has added the Soarin’ music to his workout mix.
Mark also has Soarin’ on his walking mix, and also has Fortuosity from Main Street U.S.A. in there. Mike noted that the Swan and Dolphin stock different toiletries. Mark noted that the deluxe Disney resorts use H2O products, but the moderates and values probably use different brands. Mark also noted that someone somewhere had reportedly found a cleaning product that had the same orange smell once used at Horizons and now used at Soarin’. He wished there was a way to bottle the Polynesian lobby smell.
Featured Attraction
This week we look at Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable at Epcot.
Mike, of course, loves Circle of Life, as it’s based on The Lion King. The movie replaced Symbiosis, which was originally at the pavilion when EPCOT Center first opened in 1982. Mike always tries to see the film every time that he’s in Epcot to try to keep it from going away.
Mark likes how they juxtapose footage of live animals against the original animation from the opening of The Lion King. He thinks that it’s a cute story warning of the dangers of overdevelopment of the land.
Mike is concerned that it may one day be replaced with a WALL-E-based movie on the environment. Mark thinks that a non-speaking character would have a more difficult time handling the narration than Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella as Timon and Pumbaa.
Review System Spotlight
This week we look at Wolfgang Puck Cafe at Downtown Disney West Side. Our MousePlanet readers sort of like Wolfgang Puck Cafe, rating it 3.7 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by lisakb22 of Prospect Heights,IL.
lisakb22 and her best friend had some issues with the atmosphere (which was overpopulated by small children despite the late hour), but loved all of the food.
Mark hasn’t eaten at Puck’s, so he left the review to Mike. Mike hasn’t eaten upstairs in the Dining Room, but has eaten in the Cafe downstairs a few times. He recommends eating at the Wolfgang Puck Express on the West Side adjacent to the Cafe, as the food is pretty much the same.
You can also find Wolfgang Puck Cafe in our Park Guide.
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment came in a voicemail from listener Janice Albers, who said that she’d leave a Magical Moment if we stopped singing on the show. (She didn’t give us a chance to agree first, but went and gave us the moment anyway.) Janice and her children got to Fantasyland as Merlin was starting the Sword in the Stone ceremony, and her son was selected to remove the sword from the stone and was named Ruler of the Realm. Later, they were looking at Splash Mountain and debating whether or not there was time before they had to leave for the airport, a cast member took them in through the exit and put them right on a log.
Mark wondered whether they got back-doored because of the Ruler of the Realm status. Mike was reminded of an Episode of Full House that Mark had no recollection of because he never watched the show.
Mark noted that Janice left the Magical Moment without waiting to see if we would agree to her terms, so we’ll still keep singing whenever we feel like it.
Last Week on MousePlanet
We continued our experiment in telling you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly, with Andrew Rich down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters. Let us know what you think about this segment!
Listener Feedback
Pat and Julie both wrote in to support our decision to cut back from four shows down to two because they’ll have an easier time keeping up. On the other hand, Tracey will miss the four shows, but she understands our need for some personal time. She’s looking forward to attending the Hustle-tini meet again.
Brian of Riverside is sad that we’re losing the news shows and asked where else he could find the information. Mark noted that the Walt Disney World Park Update and Disneyland Park Update have been and will continue to be written columns at MousePlanet.
Maryann Fekete hopes that we keep the Walt Disney World Update column. Mark stated that the columns were not going anywhere, and that the Walt Disney Company news was the only one that was up in the air, since there was no existing column, but that we were gauging the demand for a column with that content.
Audress Johnson noted that she thought that the Walt Disney Company news is redundant. However, the content that she listed was from the Park Updates, rather than the Company news. Mark listed some of the topics that were part of the Company news.
Big Brian left a voicemail to note that we dropped the right shows in deciding to drop the news and listener feedback shows.
Randy left a voicemail asking that we save the Walt Disney Company news.
