Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
The cost of an Owner’s Locker isn’t quite as high when you think about the per-bag fees that many airlines are now charging. It’s a risk-free trial, so why not give it a try?
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week came in a voicemail from listener (and MouseStation cartoonist) Sean Jones, who told us about how he set his iPhone to use music files from his iPod to let him wake up to Disney music.
Mark recalled a friend’s mother waking the kids up with “Good Morning, Good Morning” by The Beatles. Mike has used several different pieces of music, including the theme song for our former podcast, which still works very well to wake him up. Mark will probably use it again this year at MouseFest.
Featured Attraction
This week we look at Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom .
It’s the third spinning hub-and-spoke ride in the Magic Kingdom, after Dumbo the Flying Elephant and the AstroOrbiter. The mechanism is the same as for Triceratops Spin at Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama.
The camels at the attraction will sometimes “spit,” making it a challenge to avoid getting wet.
Mike was wishing that he could control the angle of the ride vehicle so that he could launch his co-riders off of the attraction.
Ask the Experts
Bob McGovern called in to give us some commentary with a question in the middle. He and his wife wondered why a candle in the window above the fire station had been removed.
As far as Mark knows, there was never a candle in the window at the Magic Kingdom, only at Disneyland. At Disneyland, the candle is in the window of Walt’s apartment. At Walt Disney World, there is no apartment over the fire station and Walt never walked the finished park.
CHOC Walk/Team MousePlanet
For more information on supporting Team MousePlanet at this year’s CHOC Walk, go to the Team MousePlanet page or get information on the MousePad discussion forums.
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment came in a voicemail from listener Brian Bedwell in Riverside, CA, who was give a special Magic Dreams pin when he couldn’t find his lanyard at the Grizzly River Run store at Disney’s California Adventure.
Last Week on MousePlanet
Once again, Andrew Rich, down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters, told you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly. Let us know what you think about this segment!
Listener Feedback
Paul Schnebelen wrote in on a lot of topics.
First off, he corrected us in that the boat on Gran Fiesta Tour that says “Viva Donald” on it isn’t a funeral barge. It’s a model of a “trajinera,” a beautifully decorated boat that serves as a floating garden in a neighborhood of Xochimilco in the suburbs of Mexico City.
Second, he loved hearing about Liana’s magical moment on the Disneyland Mark VII monorail. He loves the monorail and actually made a trip to the Park one weekend specifically to ride the new Monorail Red and rode in both the nose cone and in the passenger compartment. He hasn’t see them handing out any co-pilot licenses at Disneyland for some time now. He also advised us that people who’d like to ride in the nose or tail cones should be aware that there’s now a policy that you can’t ride alone in the nose cone with the pilot.
He also talked about his fiancee who fell off her Segway on the Epcot tour when the rider in front of her made a panic stop, causing her to lose her balance. Mark has had experience at Centra Care with many injuries in the past.
He also weighed in on the Nemo side of the Simba vs. Nemo debate.
Mike wrote in to ask Mark what happened to his History of the World series, and whether there was going to be any more installments of the story. Mark does hope to get back to the story in the future, but doesn’t know when that might be.
Janice wrote in with a story about wanting to stay in a solid hotel room during Tropical Storm Fay instead of their RV at Fort Wilderness. They went to guest services to book a room and were given a Fort Wilderness cabin at no additional charge.
Jonathan Yeh wrote in to let us know that the music in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Space Mountain is the same as the music in Disneyland’s Space Mountain, contrary to what Shawn Coomer had reported.
