Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
Since recording this show, we were able to talk John Van Meter into both extending and enhancing the Owner’s Locker Free Starter Kit promotion, exclusively for MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners! From now through April 30, when you select “I Heard About it on MousePlanet” in the “How did you hear about Owner’s Locker?” drop-down box, Owner’s Locker will send you a shopping list and you can choose up to $50 worth of items to be in your locker when it’s first delivered for free! If you’d like something that’s not on the list, you can contact them and they’ll work it out with you. This is a great way to both get your big purple storage locker and possibly avoid that first-day shopping trip at the same time!
If you signed up for your locker during the first month of the promotion, don’t worry! We’ve gotten John to agree to give you a $50 shopping spree, as well!
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Today’s show was published late due to Mark’s illness over the weekend.
If you were an early downloader, then you got a version of the show that did not include any of our theme music or interstitials. We’ve remedied that, and now if you download the show again, you’ll get a show that sounds better. If your copy already has the music at the top of the show, then you’re fine.
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from listener Joe in L.A., who recommends taking two backpacks to the park with you. This first one is for carrying around during the day with sunscreen, camera, park maps, snacks and such. The second one is to stick in a locker with sweatshirts and other clothing for when the weather gets chilly later on. (Send in your own tip now!)
When Mark goes on family trips, they regularly take multiple bags, including a portable compressor and nebulizer for his son’s asthma in case something goes terribly wrong. That bag, plus another with extra clothing will go into a locker for later use.
Around the Station
This week, Mike and Mark underwent a magical transformation into a new dimension, featuring Steven Ng as the narrator and the voice of V.I.N.CENT. For those wondering about V.I.N.CENT., you’ll need to watch Disney’s The Black Hole, a first foray into science fiction films following the success of Star Wars.
Sean has added a new dimension to the strip: color! Click on the strip for a larger image.
Once Mike figured out the time warp surrounding our recording in advance, he said that it was great meeting Sean yesterday. We’ll have actual post-meet discussion after he gets back.
We’ve now set up a page dedicated to archiving all of the “@ The Station” strips to make it easy for you to find them. We’ve got three more from Sean already that you haven’t seen yet, and they just keep getting better!
Disney “I Don’t Get It”/What in the (Disney) World?
Listener Sharla Manglass asked “What in the (Disney) World is with Sounds Dangerous starring Drew Carey? That show is terrible, yet they keep it running and close other better attractions.”
Mike actually likes Sounds Dangerous. His explanation of why he likes it consist of “it’s a fun show, that doesn’t cost a lot to maintain.” He then talked about why it doesn’t cost much and why he’d rather have it there than have nothing there, and that it’s good that they have something with sound effects. He does miss the One Saturday Morning sound effects show that was there before Sounds Dangerous.
Mark doesn’t think that it’s horrible, but it’s not great. Mark misses the original Monster Sound Show from the park’s early days. He agrees that one of the reasons that Sounds Dangerous is still there is because it’s so inexpensive to run, and it’s another attraction to suck up the crowds in the park. He’s curious to see what happens to Sounds Dangerous once the American Idol attraction goes in next door. Toy Story Mania will also be open by then to suck up crowds.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question came from Jeff Peterson of Ramona, CA, who asked Mark’s son “Which is your favorite robot in a Disney or Pixar film? B.E.N. in Treasure Planet, The Omnidroid in The Incredibles, Carl in Meet the Robinsons or WALL-E”?
Mark’s son hasn’t seen Treasure Planet, and WALL-E hasn’t been released yet, so he eliminated those two right off the bat. He likes Carl because he’s funny.
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment comes from listener Emily from CA. (Send in your moment now!)
Emily somehow managed to luck into getting a spontaneous invitation from someone to have lunch at Club 33 last Thanksgiving. Mike and Mark decided that they now have to spend their time hanging out with their lucky listeners.
Mike once would have had an opportunity to eat at Club 33, but he was on the wrong side of the country at the time.
