Tip of the Week
Justin wrote in to recommend forcing kids to ride attractions that they’re afraid of in order to get them past their initial fears, and to make them go on it no matter how much they beg not to do it.
Mark disagreed forcefully with this tip. He feels that it’s really a case of knowing your kid. If you think that your kid is adventurous and just needs to get over the hump, it’s very different from a kid that is timid and frightened of everything and freaks out about everything they find scary. If your kid is really terrified, don’t force them because it could really harm them psychologically.
Mike agreed that, if your child is visibly not wanting to go on the attraction, don’t force them to do it. As a cast member, he saw too many people pushing their obviously terrified child onto the attraction and managers telling the parent that they are welcome to do a child swap, but the child really doesn’t want to go.
Featured Attraction
This week we look at Wishes at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
Mark thinks that the music is great, and noted that the “Star Light, Star Bright” portion of the music is very memorable; there’s even a sing-along version on the show’s soundtrack.
He noted that he saw the show a night or two after it officially premiered. He also pointed out that there were originally supposed to be characters on the castle itself, but that this element was dropped between the time that the soundtrack for the show was recorded and the time that the show debuted.
Mike really likes Wishes as well, but he feels that it’s time to replace or update the show because it’s six years old. He also hinted that he’d love to see “Remember … Dreams Come True” come over from Disneyland. Mike really likes Wishes, though, and called it “timeless.”
Mark wouldn’t mind if they replaced Wishes if they replaced it with something at least as good; however, he doesn’t think that “Remember …” would work at Walt Disney World, because there are so many Disneyland-specific moments in the show.
Mike’s favorite moment in the show is the first fan of white fireworks behind the castle. Mark loves that moment, as well as the Blue Fairy moment, the Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment and the finale.
Mike mentioned that, at the premiere of “Remember …” he got concerned because it started with the same music. Mark was taken aback by it the first time that he heard it, as well.
Mike noted that he had seen a video of Wishes at Disneyland Paris, and that the Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant fit the fireworks even better.
Review System Spotlight
This week we take another look at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. MousePlanet readers really love it, rating it 4.5 out of five planets. Our featured review this week, is by mouseketeer70 of Northport, AL.
mouseketeer70 and her husband ate at Boma on their anniversary at a last-minute suggestion from the bus driver taking them to the resort. They loved the food and the selection, and they had an attentive waiter. They may come back for lunch instead of dinner due to the price.
The last time that we looked at Boma was in Episode 3, so it was time to go back again.
Mark and Mike both love Boma, for different reasons. Mark tries to eat there each trip, and was last there in August, with his family. His son, who is notoriously picky, even was somewhat adventurous there.
Mike loves the coffee and juices at breakfast, and zebra domes at dinner. He thinks that it’s awesome.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question comes from Sean Jones, who asks: “Can you name all the rabbits you can from Disney films?” Sean also noted that he could only think of Roger, the White Rabbit, Thumper, Brer Rabbit, and Oswald.
The Kid got all that Sean listed except for Brer Rabbit. Mark also noted that there were unnamed rabbits such as in Snow White and Cinderella. They decided to put out a call for the readers to send in their lists of rabbits. Mark later also came up with the rabbits in Sleeping Beauty that were hopping around in the Prince’s boots during “Once Upon A Dream.”
You can submit your own question for The Kid.
MouseFest Moment
Rather than doing a big show compiling a whole bunch of short interviews Mike did during MouseFest, we’re going to string them out for a few months as an extra segment on our Monday show.
This week, Mike talks with Lou Mongello of the WDW Radio Show Podcast, Disney World Trivia books and web site and much more, at PodFest.
Lou talked about the history of PodFest and how it has grown since then. He originally wanted to just let people know about the new format for sharing information. He had been having a fabulous MouseFest, and said that it had been getting bigger and better each year.
Lou’s favorite Magical Moment has been watching Walt Disney World through his kids’ eyes.
He was looking forward to the Mega Mouse Meet and TriviaFest as MouseFest continued.
Mark noted that he has been trying to get Lou on the show, and joked that Lou is the “Prince of all Disney Media.”
Last Week on MousePlanet
Andrew Rich, down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters told you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.

Sharla called it to let us know that T-Rex Cafe no longer requires you to get specialty drinks in souvenir cups.
March of Dimes
Mark has gotten an early start on raising funds for the March of Dimes! Last year, MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners helped Mark to raise over $5,000 for the worthy charity. We’re looking to beat that this year and raise $6,000! Just go to Mark’s fundraising page and help to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely.
We’re now on Facebook! Join the MousePlanet and MouseStation groups. You can also become a fan of MousePlanet or the MouseStation. If you join the club and use Pieces of Flair, you can get your MousePlanet and MouseStation flair from Mark (though you have to friend him first).
