Thanks to our sponsors
Today’s show is sponsored by:
MouseEarVacations.com. Providing Magical Vacations for over 21 years.
Scooter Vacations. Official mobility scooter charitable partner to Kids Wish Network and Starlight Starbright Foundation.
Owner’s Locker. Why bring all that stuff back and forth, when you can leave it at Disney and have it waiting for you when you come back?
Tip of the Week
If you expect to buy a lot of souvenirs while you’re on your Disney vacation, pack an extra duffel bag or collapsible suitcase inside your other luggage to carry the stuff that you buy so that you don’t have to buy the extra suitcase while you’re there or pay huge shipping costs. Especially if you have a large group, you’ll be more likely to be within your luggage allowance.
Featured Attraction
This week we look at Triceratop Spin at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mark disagreed with the Park Guide, which compares the attractin to Dumbo Flying Elephants. It’s more like Magic Carpets of Aladdin because there are two seats and one seat controls car height while the other controls pitch. He told about his his son had sat in the front seat by himself, using the control in front of him and reaching over the top to handle the other control in the back seat, as well.
Review System Spotlight
This week we take a look at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. MousePlanet readers really like it, rating it 4.1 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by RockDoc07 of Long Island, NY.
RockDoc07 had a great experience at Caribbean Beach on his first trip ever to Walt Disney World. The only problem that he had was when luggage services wouldn’t deliver the bags to the room without him there.
Mark noted that we selected Caribbean Beach Resort in response to an email request.
Mike noted that the Caribbean Beach Resort supplied the glow cubes for the 2008 Hustletini meet because Pop Century was out of the cubes.
Caribbean Beach is the only moderate resort that Mark has never stayed at, while it was the first Disney resort that Mike had ever stayed at.
You can also find the Caribbean Beach Resort in our Park Guide.
MouseFest Moment
Rather than doing a big show compiling a whole bunch of short interviews Mike did during MouseFest, we’re going to string them out for a few months as an extra segment on our Monday show. It’s a little strange now, with MouseFest going on hiatus for 2009, but we’re continuing the memories of MouseFest 2008 anyway.
This week, Mike talks with Tim Devine of TheMagicInPixels.com. Tim joined us on Episode 231 last summer, though Mike missed that episode due to car problems.
Mike loves Tim’s work, and used Tim’s work for Christmas gifts last year. Tim started out posting a photo blog as a way to share his pictures and got so much good response that he decided to turn it into its own entity. This was his third MouseFest. He was having a great time, getting great feedback. He was looking forward to the Mega Mouse Meet because he gets to meet people. He had a great Magical Moment was when he got his grandfather selected for Veteran of the Day for the day’s Flag Retreat in the Magic Kingdom. The PhotoPass guys let him get under the rope to get his own photos, and it was great to surprise his grandfather with the news and to be able to share it with four generations of his family.
For more information on MouseFest and the hiatus for 2009, please go to the MouseFest Web site and read the news release and the FAQ.
Last Week on MousePlanet
Andrew Rich, down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters told you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.
Listener Feedback
Vicki wrote in that her daughter is going to do a term paper on Imagineers and wondered we had any insider tips on how to contact them quickly to get an interview. Mark is working on getting a contact for them from Imagineering. If he doesn’t hear back from them shortly, he’ll try to get a retired Imagineer to contact them.
Brian Martsolf wrote to say that he enjoyed listening to the MouseFest moment interview with him and his intro to the next episode. He also wanted to encourage Sean Jones to go ahead and do his proposed podcast.
Jeff Peterson from Escondido, California wrote in with a Stump the Hosts question. Jeff asked where a carousel operated in Disneyland’ Frontierland for many years. Both Mark and Mike were stumped. It was Merry-go-Round Rock on Tom Sawyer Island. Mark and Mike could not answer Jeff’s question as to whether Roundabout Rock still existed in the Magic Kingdom’s Tom Sawyer Island.
Roy wrote in to endorse Scooter Vacations, whom he rented from on his last trip, and he will use again on his next trip at the end of March.
March of Dimes
Mark was recently named the top walker for the March of Dimes Northeastern New York region for 2008, and second overall in Upstate New York (above the counties of Westchester and Rockland). MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners helped Mark to raise over $5,000 for the worthy charity. We’re looking to beat that this year and raise $6,000! Just go to Mark’s fundraising page and help to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely.
