Tip of the Week
Listener Brian from Riverside called in to voicemail line to recommend riding Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters and get the free photo sent home to use it as free wallpaper for your computer or portable device. Mark noted that e-cards are available at various locations at Walt Disney World, as well, such as the Mission: Space post-show area or a spot in Innoventions..
Featured Attraction
This week we look at The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Mark noted that his family enjoyed the attraction, especially the “learn to draw” Animation Academy portion, but that it still didn’t compare to the original walk through the area past animators actually working on a Disney animated feature film. Mike agrees that it just doesn’t compare to what it used to be.
Mark thinks that it falls into the same category as the new menu at ‘Ohana. For those who never experienced the original, it’s really great, but to those who remember what used to be there, it’ll never be the same. He believes that ratings for the attraction will continue to rise as the balance continues to shift to newer park-goers.
Review System Spotlight
This week we take a look at Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney Marketplace. MousePlanet readers really love it, rating it 4.6 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by bmseelye of Boyne City, MI.
bmseelye and their sister really love the restaurant, making it their last stop on their trip before they head home. They love the fact that the sandwiches are over-baked and the prices are low.
Mark has eaten there a couple of times, most recently with Jim Korkis at the end of 2007. He had a great oriental chicken salad on his last visit. He also feels that the cost/value proposition is excellent.
Mike really likes it, including the facts that the food is of high quality and the price is affordable, although the wait can be somewhat long.
You can also find the Earl of Sandwich in our Park Guide.
Episode 300 is coming!
We still don’t know what we’re going to do for Episode 300, but we’re wondering what your favorite episodes or favorite moments from the first 2 and a quarter years of the MouseStation might be. We still don’t know what we’re going to do with them, but call or write in and let us know what you like the most!
Magical MouseFest Moment
Rather than doing a big show compiling a whole bunch of short interviews Mike did during MouseFest, we’re going to string them out for a few months as an extra segment on our Monday show. It’s a little strange now, with MouseFest going on hiatus for 2009, but we’re continuing the memories of MouseFest 2008 anyway.
This week, Mike talks with Gene Scott, a pastor from Naples, FL.
Gene has been listening to MouseStation for about two years because “it keeps me sane on the highways.” Gene loves MOusePlanet, especially the Park Updates. Gene won a $50 gift card and lanyard from the Year of a Million Dreams.
For more information on MouseFest and the hiatus for 2009, please go to the MouseFest Web site and read the news release and the FAQ.
Last Week on MousePlanet
Andrew Rich, down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters told you what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.
Listener Feedback
Ronald Rowe wrote in to suggest that we ask people to call in to the voicemail from in the parks. We’ve had some people call in from the parks, but not all that many. Mark noted that we’d love anybody to call in from the parks. Since it’s a toll-free number, you can even call from a pay phone somewhere. Mike suggested that people call in and do our station ID from the parks.
Dan the Light Man called the feedback line to compliment Steven on doing such a great job with the Rob Klein interview. But mostly, he wanted to answer Sean Jones’ question about how many different bulbs are used in the parks. It took Dan two voicemails to complete his message, but he passed along some really interesting information that only someone in the lighting industry could identify.
Ron Rowe wrote in again to compliment us on Steven’s interview with Rob Klein. Ron had a question for Rob Kline. He wondered if there has been any consideration to making all of the audio & video availble to the public to view/hear, perhaps via an online resource or some sort of documentry. Ron would love to be able to hear/see all of this.
Mark noted that many of the shows are now available through some of the Walt Disney Treasures DVDs. We’re not sure whether any of the other shows might be made available or not.
Chris from Tucson called the voicemail line to suggest that, since a lot of people probably listen to the show with their kids, maybe we could put a show together kind of like “bring your kid to MousePlanet.” We could invite them to have their kids submit questions and have the Kid cohost. He was inspired, especially after hearing the “Ask the Kid” segment where we posed the question of possible future segments to the Kid, and it sort of reminded him of the Blue Sky Cellar.
Mark noted that Bring Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day is Thursday, April 23 and asked that anyone interested in a “bring your kid to MousePlanet” show have their kid send in their questions via email or voicemail and (if there’s enough response), we’ll have the Kid join us on the show.
March of Dimes
Mark was recently named the top walker for the March of Dimes Northeastern New York region for 2008, and second overall in Upstate New York (above the counties of Westchester and Rockland). MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners helped Mark to raise over $5,000 for the worthy charity. We’re looking to beat that this year and raise $6,000! Just go to Mark’s fundraising page and help to provide a better chance to prevent prematurity and to help those babies that are born prematurely.
