Thanks to our sponsor
Today’s show is sponsored by Owner’s Locker, a great service that gives you a place to leave your vacation-only stuff until your next trip to visit the Mouse.
The Owner’s Locker Free Starter Kit promotion, exclusively for MousePlanet readers and MouseStation listeners has now ended. However, you can still get a risk-free membership with Owner’s Locker. Sign up for membership, and if you decide that you don’t want your locker before the end of your first trip, you can get your money back! And don’t forget to say that you heard about them from MousePlanet in the drop-down box on the first sign-up page.
Also, if you have any great ideas for how to use an Owner’s Locker, if you’ve signed up and are anticipating using your locker, or if you have already used your locker, send us an email or call our voicemail and let us know what you think!
Tip of the Week
This week’s Tip of the Week comes from listener Jim, who recommends wearing something related to where you’re from (such as a hat or T-shirt for a local sports team, a college sweatshirt, etc.) in order to find other guests and cast members from your area while you’re visiting. It’s a great way to bring some magic to homesick cast members or others. It will likely work better at Walt Disney World than at Disneyland, since most Disneylanders are locals. (Send in your own tip now! The tip jar is empty, so we need your tips now!)
Mike loved finding people on vacation from Minnesota when he was working there, though he didn’t need any local clothing to figure it out, since he was checking them in to the resort and had their information in front of him. He almost daily checked in someone from the city that he lived in.
Mark would have trouble following that tip because his casual clothing all has Disney stuff on it, and he doesn’t really have anything local except a couple of Subway Series T-shirt (but black T-shirts don’t work well in the hot Florida sun).
Our Disney
John Hemry wrote in with his thoughts on this new segment idea submitted a few weeks ago by listener Justin.
John said that he’d love to see Disney bring in Trader Vic’s Restaurant to go into the largely-unused Tangaroa Terrace. It would fit the Polynesian theming and would provide an interesting counterpoint to ‘Ohana and the Kona Cafe.
Mark believes that the Tangaroa Terrace is being used for special events, which would make it difficult to set it up as a restaurant if it’s needed on a regular basis.
Mike has no idea where the Tangaroa Terrace is, though he would prefer adding a Chick-Fil-A to Walt Disney World over bringing in Trader Vic’s.
Around the Station
This week, Sean did a strip that he’s been talking about for a few weeks. We merrily, merrily went along with it.
The latest strip from Sean Jones has Mark and Mike go to H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks. Well, sort of. Click on the strip for a larger image.
Sean is working on a very special strip for next week. We really hope that he completes it in time for us to record it for next week.
Don’t forget that we’ve set up a page dedicated to archiving all of the “@ The Station” strips to make it easy for you to find them.
Ask the Kid
In a segment that we had originally hoped to insert into our interview with Chief Magic Official Justin Muchoney last Wednesday, Kate Tillan asked Mark’s son: If you were the Chief Magical Official of Disney, what would be your first three proclamations or wishes granted? Kate’s seven-year old son Aidan said that his three would be as follows: 1. Every child gets a present when they go to Walt Disney World. 2. He would create a Chef Donald’s Restaurant (his favorite restaurant is Chef Mickey’s). 3. He would create a Chef Goof’s Restaurant.
Mark’s son agrees with first one, but would give “toys instead of presents,” whatever that difference is. He’d add another mini golf course, because people would get tired of the same two all the time. For his third wish to grand, he would say that the first 50 people in the park on a certain day get tickets to the Disney Cruise Line.
Mike and Mark ended up arguing over whether or not Mark liked playing mini golf (as opposed to liking it but preferring to spend time in the parks).
Magical Moment
This week’s Magical Moment comes in a voicemail from listener Dean in NYC. (Send in your moment now!)
Dean called in from the bus ride back to Pop Century after the Pirate & Princess Party. He was heading back by himself because the rest of his family was too pooped to party. However, he did manage to get a picture of himself and 7 month old son on Dumbo. His son cried on line the whole time, but as soon as he was up in the air, he was very happy. Dean’s wife took the photo of the two of them, and Dean was very happy to have that picture.
Mark usually doesn’t have photos of him with the kid on Dumbo (or anywhere), since he’s the one with the camera. Maybe one of these days he’ll have his wife sit in the elephant in front with the camera and he’ll sit with the kid and get in the photo.
