Tip of the Week
This week’s tip comes via email from listeners John and Cindy, who suggest:
My wife and I used to live in Jacksonnville, Florida from June 2003 to Feb
2009, a mere 2 hour drive from WDW!. During this time we were annual passholders
and on each and every trip, we always reinforced to our children if were we
to become separated to immediately locate a Castmember. One year, while at
the Osborne Family Light show, we lost one our of kids (then 7 years old).
With Mom and Dad in a complete panic, it took about 15 very long minutes to
locate our kid who had easily found a Castmember and was chatting away with
her, completely unfazed! I cannot stress the importance of instructing your
kids to locate a Castmember if they become separated from you.
Mark agrees that having kids find cast members if they can’t find you is the
best way to keep them safe. He also recommends that they have your cell phone
number somewhere about their person so that they can give it to the cast member
so that they can contact you.
Mike pointed out that there are never lost children at Walt Disney World, only
lost parents.
Mark also noted that he and his wife trained The Kid on how to recognize a
cast member, focusing on the white name tag and a costume.
Review System Spotlight
This week we take a look at Teppan Edo at Epcot. MousePlanet readers really
like the restaurant, rating
it 4.2 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by bmxmom of
Southern California.
bmxmom and her daughter had a great meal, enjoying the food, the chef, the
dessert and the family sharing the table with them, though they felt that the
noise level was a bit too high, leading to them giving it a 4-planet rating.
You can also find Teppan Edo in our Park Guide.
Mike’s thoughts that the Benihana chain is owned by the Ichiban chain proved
to be incorrect as there is no financial connection at all between them.
Ask the Kid
This week’s question was asked a while ago via Twitter by Brian
who asked:
This Saturday Sept 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day, what is your pirate name?
Magical Moment
Vance Cope called the feedback line with a story about how he met Imagineering
Ambassador and Disney Legend Marty Sklar.
Last Week on MousePlanet
Andrew Rich, down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters recapped what you may
have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.
Listener Feedback
Stuart Sternberg
posted on Twitter another MouseStation Believe It Or Not: Mark Goldhaber was
the original wrestler named Goldust and Mike was his little valet known as the
Bluetini!
Joe in L.A. sent a note via email noting that Mark asked last year if there
were any Chanukah movies around. Joe noted that the Disney Channel was airing
“Full-Court Miracle” again this year, calling it “a fun sports movie and
a fun holiday movie.” Unfortunately Mark was unable to catch the show again
this year due to a cramped schedule. He’s hoping to catch it next year. A couple
of descriptions of the movie are located on the Disney
Channel Web site and Wikipedia.
Sharla Manglass was listening to Episode
371 and yelling at her iPhone that the dinosaur you bring back from the
past at the Dinosaur attraction is called an iguanodon, and the actor in the
pre-show film was Wallace Langham. (Mark saw her comment to that effect on Twitter
and told her to yell at the feedback line instead, and she was kind enough to
oblige.) Langham was on Veronica’s Closet with Kirstie Alley and is now on CSI
playing Detective Hodges on the original series. Sharla hadn’t called us in
a while, but she had a great time at Disneyland Paris and is looking forward
to sharing that with us soon
Mary Tesch from Seymour, WI sent an email to agree with Mark that it is fascinating
to watch Jim Lewis run a DVC Condominium Association meeting. Mary thinks the
new airline check-in area at Old Key West will be an interesting enhancement
to the property, and that she hopes it will solve the bottleneck problem caused
with the current airline check-in area. Her family hold an ownership interest
at Old Key West and stay there most of the time when they travel to Walt Disney
World.
She also thinks that the enhancements to the pool area at Saratoga Springs
look incredible. She’s sure that her kids will want to stay there once that
is finished. Her 10 year old son was bored at the meeting, though he did enjoy
seeing the movie clips we were shown for upcoming films. He also enjoyed the
“director” who came out to take over after the official parts of the meeting
were over. Her 14-year-old daughter was supposed to be doing some reading for
school in the lobby of the Contemporary, but Mary later found out that she instead
took the monorail to the Grand Floridian and bought some gingerbread and a new
shawl for herself.
Mary and her husband’s overall impression of the meeting was that it was nice
to attend. However, all of the information presented in the “What’s New”
portion of the meeting was all old news to them, which they found a bit disappointing.
She thought that perhaps those who don’t read Mark’s weekly Walt
Disney World Resort Update or don’t listen to the MouseStation didn’t know
the things that were presented, but she certainly did!
