Featured Attraction

This week, we look at Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Mike gave a general overview of the attraction, then Mark walked us through the queues.

The attraction is set up as if you are going on a tour to climb Mt. Everest and you enter the tour booking office. Fastpass holders already have reservations and go in through the office on the right, where they check in, pick up their equipment and travel a shorter path including a quick last-minute shop for anything that they may not already have in their packs. A quick pass through the annex of the Yeti museum and they’re ready to board the tea train to the base camp.

Those in the Standby line do not have reservations and need to go through the office on the left. After signing up, they take a tour of the grounds including a prayer temple with Yeti icons, then go through the provisions store to get climbing tools and stock themselves for the trip, get a tour of the tea plantation and walk through the Yeti museum before finally getting to board their tea train to the base camp.

Mark also gave a scene-by-scene walkthrough of the tea train ride itself.

Review System Spotlight

This week we take a look at the Disneyland Hotel. MousePlanet readers love the restaurant, rating it 4.0 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by AZtwinmommy of Arizona.

AZtwinmommy and her family had a wonderful vacation at the hotel, and they’ve already booked another vacation there again next year, leading to her giving it a 5-planet rating.

Mark has never stayed there, but Mike spent a long trip there and it’s his favorite Disney resort on either coast.

You can also find the Disneyland Hotel in our Park Guide.

Last Week on MousePlanet

Steven Ng, filling in for Andrew Rich, recapped what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.

Listener Feedback

Dean from_New York City called the toll-free feedback line on Super Bowl Sunday and left a lengthy message with his consolidated Bottom 3 lists for each of the Walt Disney World theme parks:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • 3 -The Boneyard
  • 2 – Rafiki’s Planet Watch
  • 1 – Too much walking
  • Dishonorable mention – Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • 3 – High School Musical 3: Right Here Right Now
  • 2 – Backlot Tour
  • 1 – Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Epcot

  • 3 – Leave a Legacy
  • 2 – no more Wonders of Life pavilion
  • 1 – Mission: Space Orange Team
  • Dishonorable mention – Italy pavilion

Magic Kingdom

  • Dishonorable mention – Columbia Harbour House
  • 3 – Astro Orbiter
  • 2 – Stitch’s Great Escape
  • 1 – Tomorrowland Speedway

Dan the Light Man called the feedback line to give us his Bottom 3 for Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Attractions

  • 3 – Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama carnival games
  • 2 – Triceratops Spin
  • 1 – Primeval Whirl

Food

  • Hasn’t really eaten at enough places to have a bottom 3

Terry wrote in to let Mark know that Boatwright’s is no longer open for breakfast, which means that Kona Cafe is once again the only place to get anything like Tonga Toast!

Mark (a.k.a. ralfrick) called in to let us know that not all counter service locations will let you break down meals to order the pieces a la carte. Mark believes that the third-party operators have the option to do what they want with their menus, but all Disney-operated counter service locations will let you break the meals up.

What do you think? Let us know!
