Tip of the Week

This week’s tip comes via email from listener Diane Kruto, who suggests:

I have been listening to the podcast for about a year now and I might have a “tip of the week”. When staying at Pop Century on the quick service dining plan we decided to try the salmon dinner platter. It was amazingly good and a full meal, with green beans, pasta, and cornbread alongside the salmon filet. Even without the dining plan, te price was very reasonable. Here in Chicago, seafood is very expensive so it was a very pleasant surprise to find an inexpensive and good salmon meal at Disneyworld.

Diane also mentioned that it was really cool to meet Mark at Toy Story Mania last May.

Mark noted that it was great to meet Diane, or any listener when he’s in the parks and welcomes listeners to say “hi” if they see him.

Mark & Mike both think that it’s great that the food quality at value resort food courts is so high.

Featured Attraction

This week, we look at Honey I Shrunk the Audience at Epcot.

The movie is no longer at Disneyland Park, as it has been replaced by Captain EO.

Mike was correct, MuppetVision 3-D opened three years before Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Mark thinks that Disney tried too hard to put so many “startle moments” in the movie.

Mike thinks that the storyline could be weaved a little better. Mark and Mike both can’t remember the name of the white mouse that gets duplicated before all of the clones run across the feet of audience members.

Mike likes the Imagination Institute tie-in. Mark noted that the Institute was created for the movie, and that the attraction was themed to match the Institute theme of the movie. Mark also misses the original “True Colors” pre-show for the movie, though he’d really prefer the “Makin’ Memories” pre-show and “Magic Journeys” movie.

Review System Spotlight

This week we take a look at the unDISCOVERed Future World tour at Epcot. MousePlanet readers love the tour, rating it 5.0 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by figment34786 of Orlando.

figment34786 is a self-described Epcot geek, and he still learned quite a bit on the tour. He was really impressed, leading to him giving it a 5-planet rating.

Mark has taken the tour once, Mike has taken it multiple times, mostly while he was a cast member. There’s a great deal of time spent in backstage areas. Mark has a photo of himself with one of the pteradactyls that was removed from the Universe of Energy. Mark remembers getting trapped in the costume shop during a downpour. Mike remembers the tour as a tour of VIP lounges.

The tour costs $49 plus tax, and does not include park admission. Many discounts are available, including Disney Vacation Club and Disncy Visa credit/debit cards.

Last Week on MousePlanet

Steven Ng, filling in for Andrew Rich down at MousePlanet Global Headquarters recapped what you may have missed on the MousePlanet site last week if you’re not visiting regularly.

Listener Feedback

John and Cindy asked what happens to the cast members when a restaurant or attraction is closed for refurbishment.

George wrote to correct Mike’s contention that Pollo Campero had a “beef” with KFC. It was actually Pollo Loco. He also asked that we not sign on the show again.

Dana Soto wrote to ask whether we have done a show on off-property hotels. We have not, partly because we don’t generally stay off-property. Dana also thanked Mark for his work to support the March of Dimes.

Mark noted that he is the voice for the videos on the Downtown Disney Resort Area Hotels Web site, as well as writing stories for their monthly email newsletter. Taking a look now, though, it appears that the videos have been retired from the site.

John Papas wrote to pass along the fact that there is Starbucks coffee at the Swan and Dolphin. Mike noted that he feels that Starwood resorts don’t brew the Starbucks coffee properly.

George from Phoenix wrote to suggest a topic for a future show: Top 3 Quotes from a Disney Attraction. Mark noted that it sort of fits with current Twitter/Facebook poll. We’ll keep it for consideration as a full show, though.

Nicole Moore posted to the MouseStation Facebook page that she loves the show and that she learned some great tips on how to save money and save time at WDW.

Kim Barron posted on Mark’s Facebook page that she keeps meaning to call in, but she promised that she would call in from the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival on her first completely solo trip. Mark hoped that her traveling without her friend Hope was not due to problems with Hope.
