Obituary: Roy Edward Disney
Roy Edward Disney, Walt’s nephew and son of Roy Oliver Disney, passed away yesterday at the age of 79 after a battle with stomach cancer. You can read Wade Sampson’s lengthy look at Roy’s life here on MousePlanet, you can read the official press release at Disney’s Web site, and donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Roy’s name to the California International Sailing Association or The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California.
Feature: Disney Holiday Wishes
Mike and Mark shared their wishes for the Walt Disney Company at this holiday season.
Mike wishes that D23 really evolves into an organization that he can see value in regardless of where he lives.
Mark wishes that Disney continues to move forward with hand-drawn animation and that The Princess and the Frog is the first in a series of new hand-drawn animated classics.
Mike wants to see hand-drawn animation be more in the forefront of the feature animation schedule.
Mark hopes that his gut feeling about Thomas Staggs taking over Parks & Resorts pans out the way that his gut feeling about Robert Iger taking over the Walt Disney Company did.
Mike wishes for a New Lion King property of some sort: an attraction, a stage show, a parade, a “good” video game or even a Direct to DVD sequel to expand the Lion King world (what a surprise!)
Mark wishes that New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom proves him wrong and actually will have a lot of things that will be attractive to boys of all ages.
Mike would love to see DisneyQuest relaunched around the world away from parks; he’s especially hoping for something in the Minneapolis area, perhaps at the Mall of America.
Mark wishes that the redo of Pleasure Island (now scheduled to be done in 2012) turns out to at least capture some of the spirit of the original (the 1989-mid-1990s spirit, not the 2005-2008 spirit), and meet some of the expectations.
Mike especially wants the Adventurers Club to reappear somewhere in the continental United States, even as a series of graphic novels. He also wishes for a trip to Hong Kong to see the park there.
Mark hopes that Disney finds a way to integrate Marvel without effecting the image of the Disney brand.
Mike hopes that Disney would work with Comcast/Universal on combined park admission, etc. Mark thinks that it’s more likely that Universal would work with SeaWorld, due to the Blackstone connection.
Mark would love to see a new stage musical. There are certainly enough properties out there to develop one.
Mike is wishing for another Kingdom Hearts game on a different gaming platform
Mark: Further expansion in in the continental U.S.

Twitter/Facebook poll questions
Here are the responses to some questions that Mark was asking on Twitter and Facebook in the last week. If you’d like to get in on answering these questions in the future, you can follow Mark on Twitter or friend him on Facebook.
What is your Disney holiday wish this year?
- Since I’m unemployed and money is tight I’m just wishing for a new Disney t-shirt. We’ll try for another Disney vacation in 2011.
- Renaming King Arthur Carousel to Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday Carousel.
- Trying to convince my boyfriend…who thinks Disney World is for kids and hasn’t been since he was 11…to plan a vacation to the world with me.
- I hope to buy DVC Resale on the cheap. That said, my real wish is for everyone to have a happy, healthy and safe holiday. And haveing my beloved Saints in the Superbowl would be fantastic!
- Get more bang for my annual pass.
- Golden Tickets 4life to all Disney Parks worldwide for me and my family.
- I wish they would bring back the Country Bears Christmas and the lighted arch in Epcot.
- I wish that I could remember to give someone a Magical Moment at least once per day. If Disney cast members can do it, maybe I can too.
- Holiday wish? I wish all year round they’d redo Future World to theme.
- OK, I thought of a holiday wish that’s a bit more self-centered: I wish that when the Aladdin stage show closes at DCA, Disney gives it the grand send-off full of pomp and circumstance that it deserves. That show is truly amazing.
- That it’s as cold this year during our January trip as it was last year. Scarves and gloves beat tank tops and shorts any day.
- My holiday wish this year is for Lou’s dad to get well!
- Would love an AP this year. Have made it without one for nearly a full year now but DO NOT LIKE THE FEELING.
- my wish is health & happiness 4 everyone & a fab vacation with friends at wdw in 2010!
