In the Walt Disney World news, most of the news came from this past Monday’s
Walt Disney World Park Update, and
links to the various information reported can be found there.

  • A woman was arrested for
    a “line rage” attack on the Mad Tea Party.
  • We gave a roundup of all of the upcoming dining
    changes
    around the resort.
  • On Tuesday, an uncooperative 40-ton sign and truss caused major disruptions
    on Interstate 4 at Osceola Parkway, causing major headaches for many tourists
    trying to get to Walt Disney World.
  • Rumors indicate that much of the interior of the Wonders of Life pavilion
    may be dismantled in time for the empty pavilion used for the Food & Wine
    Festival.

In The Walt Disney Company news:

  • Disney is looking to start selling fragrances to pre-teen boys, especially
    in Hispanic communities.
  • Hollywood Records
    will introduce its new CDVU+ format on August 7 with the first album by the
    Jonas Brothers
    for that label.
  • The 18 stops of “Disney’s Magical Blu-Ray Tour” will take it to malls
    around the country from August 17 – December 23. Here’s the schedule:

  • Disney
    celebrated
    as the Disney-ABC Television Group earned 85 nominations for
    this year’s Emmy Awards.
  • The
    Little Mermaid
    begins its pre-Broadway
    shakedown run
    in Denver today, while Beauty
    and the Beast
    closes its doors on Broadway on Sunday.
  • Ratatouille
    dropped from third to fifth at the weekend box
    office
    with a $10.9 million, bringing its total since release to $165.5
    million.
  • On the strength of Pirates, Ratatouille and Wild Hogs, Disney
    is the number
    3 studio
    at the box office so far this year.
  • At the last minute, Roy E. Disney decided not to skipper
    his yacht Pyewacket in the TransPacific
    Yacht Race
    . His son, Roy Pat, skippered Pyewacket to the fastest port-to-port
    finish in the race this year, but missed taking back the record by just over
    9 hours. However, the boat did not win the overall title based on handicap times.
    At recording time, the Morning Light – a boat that Disney funded as part
    of making a documentary about its sailing team, was in a
    tight race
    for the Division 2 title.
  • David Hilberman, one of the leaders of the animators’ strike
    at the Disney studio in 1941, died of natural causes on July 5 at age 95.
  • Shirley Slesinger Lasswell, widow of Stephen Slesinger, died
    on July 19 at age 84. She was behind the ongoing lawsuits against Disney over
    the rights to the Pooh characters.
