Disney Stuff – My Other Disney Christmas Houses

December 24, 2010 by Chris Barry

After two years of writing here on MousePlanet there is one article that I continue to get email about to this day. Two Christmases ago, I wrote a story about my Disney Village Christmas Collection houses. They’re one of my prize possessions and certainly my favorite Christmas collectibles. They’re modeled after actual buildings from Main Street USA. As you can see from the photo, we have The Main Street Train Station, The Main Street Firehouse, The Main Street Cinema, Casey’s Corner and Cinderella’s Castle. Two years later and I still haven’t purchased The Emporium or City Hall. Someday, I suppose.

As I said, I get more email and questions about this collection. Everyone wants to know where to get them. I got one just the other day. Turns out when you Google Disney Village Christmas Collection, my article is fourth on the list, so I get lots of questions. That’s just fine with me. It’s great to know that people are still reading something I wrote two years ago. I’m more than happy to help you all out there accumulate more Disney stuff, especially pieces from this wonderful collection. They make me smile a lot during the holidays. They make my family smile and they make visitors smile, so why not spread the joy a little?

For the record, aside from the second hand markets like eBay, there are only two ways you can acquire the Disney Village Christmas Collection. The first, and the most enjoyable, is to head to a Disney Park and buy one from one of the Christmas shops. We bought the Main Street Cinema at Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom and had it shipped home. If you can’t make it to the parks (and what a shame if you can’t) you can try the Walt Disney World Merchandise number. Call 407-363-6200 and ask them what’s available. I highly recommend this service. They are always incredibly helpful. This collection is not always available, so good luck in your hunting.

That said, there are other Christmas houses on display in our home this time of year and I thought I’d show some of them off this year.

We have several Winnie the Pooh Christmas houses. They were part of the Hundred Acre Wood Collection available from the long gone and much missed Disney Catalog. The kids love these. I love the detail on the trees and the unruly strings of lights between the branches. These seem to be pretty hard to find on the second-hand market.

I found these two last year at a local nursery Christmas Shop. They’re from Department 56. They had no box and no AC Adapters so I was able to get them for practically nothing. The AC adapters are easy to find, so this was a deal. I realize one of them isn’t technically a house, but I think it fits in the collection.

This Snow White house was available from DisneyShopping.com several years back. There were several in the collection, but I felt that this one was the most classic.

Minnie’s Christmas House was also purchased online several years ago. Mickey’s house was sold out and I haven’t been able to track one down since.

There are other Disney Christmas Village Collections out there. Department 56 has done several lines over the years, as has Hawthorne Village. It’s always a hot market and once they’re discontinued, they’re really hard to come across at a fair price.

Every season, we crack open the attic and drag out all the boxes and the kids can’t wait to have these Christmas collections up around the house. Of course, the two big kids in the house—especially yours truly—can’t wait either. They’ve become part of the fabric of our Christmas season and I’m sure I’ll be setting them up for many years to come.

Now, if I can just track down The Emporium and City Hall at a good price….

Thanks for reading, have a magical holiday and a joyous New Year and I’ll see you next time with more of that great Disney Stuff.
