California cruise excursions
After much anticipation, eager cruisers can finally see what shore excursions
will be available on the Disney Cruise Line West Coast itineraries—and
reserve them in advance. The length of tours, departure times and age
restrictions vary from tour to tour. It should be noted that the ability to book excursions requires that your fare be paid in full and that it be within 90 days of your cruise, for people waiting until the deadline to pay in full, this may mean excursion registrations have been open for a while before you can book them.
Note: Some of the more popular excursions, such as the Dolphin Encounter,
are extremely popular and are selling out within the first hours that
reservations are available. If your preferred excursion is booked, sign
up for your back-up choices, and consider calling back periodically and
checking once on the ship for cancellations or extra additions.

Hablamos Español
David Koenig passes along the information that Disneyland has begun training a pilot group of about a half-dozen princesses to be able to speak Spanish to guests. Aurora, Jasmine and others will spend this week receiving a crash course in conversational Spanish and will be encouraged to hablan Español with Spanish-speaking guests beginning March 7.
The test should prove interesting since few if any of the hand-picked princesses currently speak a word of Spanish.
Any Tinker Bells out there?
On Wednesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. (sign-in at 9:30 a.m.) Disney Entertainment
Productions begins looking for a sparkling female performer to embody
the spirit of Tinker Bell. Soaring high above Disneyland, she ignites
the new, nightly fireworks spectacular in celebration of Disneyland’s
50th Anniversary.
Those auditioning should be trained aerialists, comfortable at heights over 100 feet, with the talent to move gracefully and the strength to hold a pose while suspended in air.
Height: 5′-5’4″; weight: 100-125 lbs. (All talent will be measured and weighed at sign-in) Auditons take place at The Disneyland Resort, 700 W. Ball Rd. Anaheim, CA 92802. Come to Visitor Parking located off Ball Road and Cast Place, check-in at Security Office and have a valid photo ID. Bring a headshot and resume, dress appropriately for extensive movement and you must be at least 18 years of age to audition. Entertainers for this show are covered under the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement with the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA). If you are not a current member of AGVA, you will be required to join the union.
If you’re a dancer or singer and would like to give Japan a try, this might be you’re chance. On March 23, at 10 a.m., Tokyo Disneyland will be auditioning singers at Screenland Studios II, 10501 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601. On March 24, they will be auditioning dancers at 10 a.m. at the same address.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and willing to relocate to the location of their contract. Bring a non-returnable photo and resumé. All auditions begin at the times listed, so arrive early to register. Dancers should be strong in ballet and jazz. Some roles require tap, modern dance, or vocal ability. Gymnastic skills are a plus. Dancers with lift/partnering or adagio experience are also needed. Wear appropriate dance attire and shoes, and be warmed up and ready to begin at the listed time. Singers should prepare two vocal selections of contrasting styles (best 16 bars of each). For all vocal auditions an accompanist will be provided, and you should provide sheet music in the correct key.
Construction update
A quick run-down of construction and rehabs around the resort:
- Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is officially closed now until after the 50th Anniversary celebration. The whole building will be closed to install a “Disneyland’s First 50 Years” show. Scaffolding and scrim is up over the facade with noises indicating new paint work. The restrooms behind the Main Street Bank are also closed. A sign says they are being refurbished as well, but a look around the wall indicates it may just be that the walkway is being used for storage for now.

- The new surface in the seating area between Stage Door Cafe and the River Belle Terrace looks just about to go in.

- The New Orleans Square restrooms by the train station have the world’s smallest construction wall (essentially just a temporary door) and are unavailable while they conduct some work. Unfortunately, from here it is a trek to the nearest restrooms at the Central Plaza-side entrance to Adventureland or at Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country.
- Painters can be seen begin work on parts of the Mark Twain Riverboat in drydock. Other than the cages being removed from around the boiler and other moving parts, no other obvious work is underway.
- The Starcade in Tomorrowland is closed for painting.

- A monorail trip confirms that the new surface between Fantasyland and Tomorroland is nearly complete.
- The outdoor seating area and magazine counter for Compass Books & Cafe in Downtown Disney are behind a wall for unknown work.
Buzz is the New Blue
Meanwhile at Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, the construction walls have come down and been replaced with barricades exposing the exit and Fastpass machines. The Premier Store is open, with a combination of the existing pin merchandise and new Buzz Lightyear merchandise.

An interesting side note is that the new attraction seems to be introducting a new color scheme to the area. While the rest of the park is experiencing a “goldening” of sorts to celebrate the park’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, the recent return of scaffolding to the exterior of the Buzz Lightyear show building was not to repaint already peeling paint, but to convert the entire exterior to the new blue color theme, completing removing the gold that was introduced in 1998 during the short-lived “New Tomorrowland” makeover. The same blue is also replacing gold in various other places in the area. See the following two photos that show one of the two benches under the People Mover/Rocket Rods tracks in the new color.

Ears to the ground
…There is a very unsubstantiated rumor, that Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters may get a couple-hour go from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday, February 28). Again, this is a rumor we have not been able to confirm, and if true do not know the conditions under which people will get to ride. But if you’re in the area anyway…

No discounts offered to the general public for single-day admission. You might find discounted tickets, starting at around $41 for ages 10 and up, through your employer, student organization or professional association. Check with your group activity office or human resources department.

Southern California 2Fer Ticket ($53/$43) through April 28, 2005 – The spring “resident salute” discount is a 2Fer ticket, with one admission to Disneyland and one admission to Disney’s California Adventure on two different days. Purchase the “ticket card” in advance at Southern California-area Vons and Pavillions grocery stores (or at the Disneyland Web site), scanned and activated at the time of purchase. Walk up to the main entrance, present the ticket card and proof of Southern California residency to gain admission. Tickets: $53 for ages 10 and older, $43 for ages 3 to 9. You must use the second admission within 30 days of the first admission, or by April 28, 2005, whichever comes first. According to the official promotion details, Southern California residents can buy up to eight 2Fer tickets per day, but each member of your party must be able to provide proof of Southern California (zip codes 90000 through 93599) or Baja California (ZIP codes 21000 through 22999) residency to use the tickets. Reader James tells us that he purchased these tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, and was allowed to purchase the tickets for his out-of-state relatives. He says his relatives were never asked for proof of residency.

Southern California 2-Day Park Hopper at 1-Day Park Hopper Price through April 28, 2005 – Residents of Southern California and Baja California, Mexico, can purchase a standard 2-Day Park Hopper pass for the price of a 1-Day Park Hopper. It appears this offer is available only online at Disney’s Web site (you’ll need to enter an eligible ZIP code. Tickets: $73 for ages 10 and older, $63 for ages 3 to 9. You must use the second day of admission within 30 days of the first admission, or by April 28, 2005, whichever comes first. According to the official promotion details, Southern California residents can buy up to eight passes per day, but on only two days in any seven day period. Costco Play 4 Days ticket ($89/$89) – Costco offers a discounted 4-day Disneyland Resort ticket at $89 per person, ages 3 and up for Southern California Costco members (zip codes 90000-93599). Not a park hopper; each day is valid for either Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure admission. Unlike the CityPass, you must buy these tickets in person at Costco. You get a voucher to exchange at a Disneyland Resort ticket booth for a valid pass. Proof of local residency is required to exchange the tickets, with a limit of 5 tickets per day. Tickets are non-transferable. The ticket is valid through June 23, 2005, or until the fourth admission is used. The ticket is not valid March 19 – April 2, 2005.

Alaska Airlines “Kids Fly Free” promotion returns
Alaska Airlines is repeating the popular “Kids Fly Free” promotion
for travel to the Disneyland Resort, and is offering park ticket and hotel
discounts as well.
If you book an Alaska Airlines Southern California Vacations package
for travel through June 29, one child (age 2-11) can fly free with each
paid adult ticket. The package also includes four nights at the Holiday
Inn Buena Park and airport transfers via Karmel Shuttle (children 2-11
are free). The packages, including airfare and hotel, start at $429 per
person.
Even better, if you travel through April 28, you also receive a free
child’s 5-day Disneyland Resort park hopper for each paid adult. If you
are traveling without children, you can instead purchase the adult 5-day
park hopper ticket at the children’s price. Be aware, however, that Disneyland
considers 11-year-olds to be adults for the purpose of admission pricing.
If Buena Park is too far away from Disneyland for you, you can upgrade
to a Disneyland Resort hotel and receive up to $200 Disney Dollars with
a stay of four nights or more before April 24, 2005.

50th Anniversary Package, revised
The Happiest Homecomings on Earth package has been revised for the new
year. The previous promotion was good only for three-night stays at the
Disneyland Resort hotels; the new offer is valid on longer stays and includes
Good Neighbor Hotels as well.
Instead of the 50th anniversary commemorative clock and Walk in Walt’s
Footsteps tour, the new packages include all the following:
- “Enchanting” commemorative certificate (one per package)
