Marie Osmond doll
The release of Marie Osmond’s next Disney doll has been announced for Saturday, December 3 (link). Priced at $179, the edition size is 300. The doll will only be sold at the Disneyland Resort and has been made in honor of Cinderella’s 50th anniversary. Some of the dolls will be pre-signed (and sold on a first-come first-served basis) and though Marie Osmond will be on hand that day and interacting with purchasers, she will not be signing dolls. Ms. Osmond posted on her Web site that she will be the Grand Marshall of the first Parade of Dreams that day, which might impact the announced 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM meet-and-greet window.
The 50th Anniversary Cinderella doll will be available on December 3. Promotional photo © Disney.
The sale will be handled through a standard wristband distribution. Distribution will begin at 7:30 near the Guest Information booth on the Downtown Disney side of the Esplanade. Disneyland DelivEars will take a ?wish list? if there are any dolls available on Monday.
Fireworks
The new ?it?s a small world? launch locations added to the Remember…Dreams Come True fireworks show were tested last Thursday and added to Friday?s public performance as previously reported, but inexplicably missing from Saturday?s show.
We always try to only share information we’re very confident in, or at least label things to be complete rumors, so we can honestly say we were confident in the news that new fireworks would be soon added.
However, we have now heard three different explanations for what happened over the weekend ? the new launch location will be used next summer, the new launch location will be added for the holiday version, or the new launch location was supposed to be used Saturday and wasn?t for some unexplained reason.
We’ve also been told that some new Pani light projections (the system to project images onto Sleeping Beauty Castle and “it’s a small world” during the show) were tested at Tom Sawyer Island last Friday, but those reports are of a “I know a guy who saw them” nature and not from anybody who saw them personally. If tested, those projections were also not present in Saturday’s performance.
Thursday night?s test also included elements of the holiday version of the Remember? fireworks, including the holiday ?tag? being added to the end of the show, new Pani projections on the Sleeping Beauty Castly and ?it?s a small world,? and the annual snow effect. Two people who watched Thursday?s test also report seeing a second series of Pani projections on ?it?s a small world,? separate from those being used for the holiday portion of the fireworks. It is unknown if this will be used for the nightly ?lighting? ceremony at the attraction or for some other purpose.
Happiest Faces kiosks
The Happiest Faces computer kiosks in Town Square have returned, once again allowing people to look up if and where their photos have been used. We missed reporting this and aren’t sure how long it has been there, but a new photomosaic has been installed in Adventureland next to Aladdin’s Oasis. The photo is of Genie, and it is well situated for actually finding specific photos inside of it.
Garden Walk back on track?
Those who just can’t get enough shopping at Disneyland will be glad to hear that the GardenWalk shopping center project may finally be back on track (click here for a good graphical presentation of the project, though for some reason it requires Flash).
For about seven years, GardenWalk has been a bit of a mythical beast in the Disneyland area. A giant walled-off lot surrounded by construction fencing promising big things but only providing a home for stray cats and tall weeds. The project, originally called Pointe Anaheim, has run into various problems, from financial problems with the owners to opposition by Disney.
If completed as planned, the complex would include more than 60 stores and restaurants, a 2,800-space six-story parking garage, and eventually more than 1,300 new hotel rooms as well as a timeshare resort. The whole thing would be built out in phases, but current hopes are that some stores and restaurants will be open by May 2007 and the first hotel space in 2008 with the entire project done in 2010. Urban Retail Properties Co., the leasing agent for the property, has put their fact sheet (link, PDF) and site plan (link, PDF) online in case you’re insterested in leasing a space.
Locals have developed an instinctive shrug when hearing news that GardenWalk construction is about to begin, but this time it does look good and in a couple years, Downtown Disney may be facing competition from another upscale shopping center within walking distance of Disneyland. Downtown Disney will remain more convenient for on-property guests, but GardenWalk will be closer to the tens-of-thousands of people staying at Harbor Boulevard hotels.
Ears to the ground
…This is only from a single source so take it with appropriate grains of salt. We’re told that Cafe Orleans will close in January, 2006, and reopen in March as a table-service restaurant. The only thing we’ve heard about the menu is that Cafe Orleans will also sell Monte Cristo sandwiches (including a vegetarian version), for which Blue Bayou is famous.
…Sunglass Icon has finally opened in the spot next to the new Anne Geddes store. They do sell all the major name brands and not just the Oakley brands (Sunglass Icon is owned by Oakley).
…Now that Chicken Little is out in theaters, the gazebo in Toontown has been given over as an opportunity to meet Chicken Little himself as well as Abby Mallard, also from the movie.

…Christmas decorations can now be found all over the park, particularly in New Orleans Square and Toontown, and everything will be in place by this Friday. Disney’s California Adventure is also getting increased decorations this year and Flik’s Fun Fair is all decked out with giant decorations.

…The monorail is back in service following two-weeks of downtime to accommodate construction in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area of Disney’s California Adventure. Not much was done (obviously anyway) in the submarine lagoon since last seen before that downtime.
The submarine lagoon is looking cleaner but not much has obviously changed in recent weeks. Photo by David Michael.
…Construction continues in the Hollywood Pictures part of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area of Disney’s California Adventure (somewhat redundant there, isn’t it?). The new “Hollywood Pictures” gates have now been installed at both ends of the area.
The beginnings of a new fountain between Monsters, Inc., and the stage can now be seen. Photo by David Michael.
…In last week’s update we misplaced the Christmas tree that will be installed at DCA this year. It will not be in the Paradise Pier amphitheater but in a round planter just above the amphitheater between the San Francisco street and the bridge to Paradise Pier.

…A Disneyland newsletter email has gone out to some annual passholders announcing new AP discounts at Downtown Disney and the parks. These are the same discounts that went into effect in September and this is just further promotion.
…Even though it is less than a month away, there is still no word on dining packages for this year’s Candlelight Processional the weekend of December 3. As of last Friday the Disney Dining phone line had no information, though we have heard that dining package reservations might open today (Monday, November 7). We?ll post package information as soon as we have it. If packages are available, you can call 714-781-3463 for information and reservations.
