Final Score: Disneyland – 2, DCA – 8. Once again, Disney execs really, really want you to spend New Year’s Eve at Disney’s California Adventure. While Disneyland guests will have a choice of just two bands, DCA visitors can once again bob, rock and swing to one of eight bands and disc jockeys. Radio Disney will be broadcasting its “Noon Year’s Eve” program from DCA, rather than from its studio in Tomorrowland. The choice is yours – do you want a variety of music and room to dance, or to join 40,000 of your closest friends for Disneyland’s awesome New Year’s fireworks show? Disneyland is in compliance – and it has the certificate to prove it. Little, unobtrusive signs have begun to pop up at ride entrances around Disneyland and DCA. Each sign reads, “Documents related to the Certificate of Compliance for this attraction may be viewed at City Hall in Town Square.” If you enquire at City Hall, you will be shown a nice binder of pretty certificates that state that Disneyland has complied with the requirements of Title 8, section 344 of the California Code of Regulations, which mandates annual inspections of permanent amusement rides, and which attraction operators had until November 5 of this year to file for existing attractions. Don’t be surprised if you don’t notice these signs – they are often visible only from the special assistance entrances, or located at the base of the operator’s consoles.
Annual Passholder performances scheduled for Aladdin – Special performances of Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular will be held for Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders on January 6 through 10, and 12. Last chance to see… If you are visiting the Disneyland Resort this week, don’t miss these holiday treats, big and little, that make this season so magical:
- Cookie decorating on Main Street, U.S.A. – Act like a kid again as you decorate a giant sugar cookie.
- The Disney characters, dressed in their holiday finest.
- Believe… In Holiday Magic fireworks – Disneyland’s fireworks are amazing year-round, but the holiday version is especially magical.
- Snow on Main Street, U.S.A.
- Gorgeous Christmas decorations throughout the resort.
- The beautiful tree in the Grand Californian Hotel.
- Pumpkin Pie fudge.
- “it’s a small world” Holiday – love it or hate it, Small World takes on a whole new look every winter.
- Christmas Fantasy Parade – one more time! (You know you’ll miss this parade if it’s ever replaced).
- Santa!
- Storybook Land Canal Boats – Miniature Christmas trees and holiday decorations adorn the tiny cities along the canal.
- Haunted Mansion Holiday – Visit Jack Skellington’s vision of Christmas.
- Fresh candy canes at the Candy Palace – these are usually made on Fridays and Saturdays, but call the Candy Hotline at (714) 781-0112 for the current schedule.

Bye Bye, Bistro – The signs have been removed from the former ABC Soap Opera Bistro location in DCA, and the building’s scrolling marquee now reads, “Coming April 2003…. Playhouse Disney Live On Stage.”
