A little less Variety in Frontierland
A long-time show will be closing. Photo by Alex Stroup.
The Golden Horseshoe Saloon has been home to the Golden Horseshoe
Variety Show twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when headliner
Billy Hill & the Hillbillies took their days off.
In an e-mail to his fans, Dana Daniels, star of the variety show, announced
that Wednesday, October 8 would be the show’s last performance:
“It is with great sadness that I report that the last performance
of the Golden Horseshoe Variety Show will be October 8th. 2003. Show
times will be 11:45 am 1:15 PM 3:00 PM 4:15 PM 5:30 PM The show will
be replaced with the current 5 day show Billy Hill and Hillbillies.
That’s right… Hillbillies 24/7. I have been performing this show
for the last 8 years two days a week five shows a day. That’s over 4000
shows folks. It was a pleasure and an honor to be a part of the history
of the Golden Horseshoe and I look forward to possibly returning in
the future (with a higher daily rate). I would also like to thank my
piano player Hal Ratliff for his wonderful piano playing, dedication
and consistency. (I’ll Be Back).”
Those who want to keep track of Daniels after he leaves Disneyland can
visit his personal Web site at danadaniels.com.

New Disney Gallery Haunted Mansion Exhibit at Disneyland
Disneyland’s merchandise department sent us this announcement about the
upcoming Disney Gallery exhibit:
Beginning on October 2, 2003 “FRIGHTS! CAMERAS! ACTION! The Haunted
Mansion Goes Hollywood” will materialize at The Disney Gallery.
This new exhibit showcases original concept sketches and renderings
created for the classic attraction plus artwork, costumes and props
created for the new fun-filled, fright-packed comedy-adventure, The
Haunted Mansion, which premieres in November 2003.
This exhibit highlights the relationship through time of different
generations of artists, showing how concepts created more than 40 years
ago have come to life through the vision and talents of today’s filmmakers.
