So that’s what the tall building is

Workers installed signs to the exterior of DCA’s Tower of Terror building

during the wee hours last Wednesday.

Tower of Terror now has its exterior sign.

These two shots show the new sign. Photos by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Disney Auctions to feature Haunted Mansion Holiday artwork

Dave Avanzino, a popular artist who has created a number of Disney artwork

including Nightmare Before Christmas pieces, has a number of special

items that will be available for online bid:

“I just wanted to send you the info about my upcoming releases

at Disney Auctions. The auction will run from October 9 – 16 and

will feature some original editions designed exclusively for this auction,

artist proofs and prototypes and some one-of-a-kind pieces. All Nightmare

artwork for sale has been approved by Tim Burton. I hope you find something

you like and that you’ll pass this on to anyone else you think might

be interested.”

You can see his artwork at the Disney Web Network (link),

and bid on his items at Disney Auctions (link).

New Haunted Mansion Holiday patches distributed Saturdays

If you are planning on collecting this year’s the 13 Haunted

Mansion Holiday patches, go to Disneyland on Saturdays, instead of Sundays

as reported in the Annual Passholder newsletter. The patches are being

released on Saturday this year to coincide with the Saturday pin releases.

The good news is that there are 5,000 patches this year, instead of 2,500,

so they will probably last until Sunday, anyway.

DCA gets a potato bar

It may not be the long-awaited baked potato cart, but Disney’s California

Adventure park finally has a potato bar. Following the popular offering

introduced last year in Walt Disney World, Engineers Toys has finally

installed its own “Build your own Mr. Potato Head” counter last

week.

The accessories.

There are many accessories available for your Mr. Potato Head. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Sixteen dollars gets you a Mr. Potato Head body and a cardboard box to

put him in. Customers can pick up however many accessories they can fit

into the box with the body. The accessories include the standard eyes

and ears, plus some Disney-exclusive pieces like Mickey Mouse balloons,

autograph books and a Mad Tea Party base.

Cast members offered these suggestions for getting the most into the

box:

  • You do not have to purchase a Mr. Potato Head body. If you already

own Mr. Potato Head, you can fill your box with lots and lots of accessories.

  • Mr. Potato Head is designed to hold accessory pieces inside the body.

Be sure to fill the body with accessories before putting it in the box.

Last chance

The last performances of Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe Variety Show

will be presented this Tuesday and Wednesday, October 7 and 8. Starting

next week, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies will be performing seven days

a week.
