High School Musical 3: Right Here, Right Now
Disney’s California Adventure park has again updated the High School Musical street show with elements from the third film in the successful franchise. High School Musical 3: Senior Year opened in theaters on October 24, and parade performers have reportedly been in intensive rehearsals to learn the new show by opening day. “High School Musical 3: Right Here! Right Now!” is billed as a “live-concert experience, complete with stacks of speakers and rows of lights,” and features several songs from the new movie.

The show is presented three times each day, with one performance stop near Disney’s California Adventure’s main entrance, and a second near the now-shuttered Golden Dreams attraction. Two audience-interaction segments allow some fans to join the show.

Pixie Hollow opens at Disneyland
Tinker Bell and her pixie pals have a new home at Disneyland. Pixie Hollow soft-opened this weekend in the space formerly occupied by Ariel’s Grotto.
Pixie Hollow is now open at Disneyland. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
Ariel’s giant seashell throne has been replaced with an oversized tea pot, and all traces of the former occupant, including the King Triton fountain, have been removed. The pathway into Pixie Hollow is dotted with small sculptures of the pixies, and tiny pixie houses surround a waterfall. The queue is designed to make you feel like you are shrinking into the pixie world, and by the time you step under the giant blades of grass and come face-to-face with Tink or one of her friends, it should seem less startling that they are human-sized. The same plants serve to screen visitors from the surrounding area and preserve the illusion. The transition back to the real world is much more abrupt, and it should surprise nobody that a merchandise cart stands just outside the area.

Pixie Hollow officially opens later this week, and, if the crowds that waited over 90 minutes to meet Tinker Bell on Saturday are any indication, this attraction will be just as popular as the Princess Fantasy Faire.

“Everyone Plays for the Kids’ Price” Package Offer
The Disneyland Resort has officially released details of the “Everyone Plays For A Kids’ Price” vacation packages. The base package starts at $68 per person, and includes a 3-day Park Hopper ticket and two nights hotel accommodations at participating Good Neighbor Hotels. Packages with Disneyland Resort Hotel accommodations start at $95 per person, per day, and longer packages are available. This package includes admission to Magic Morning and Mickey’s Toontown Morning Madness, as well as priority seating vouchers for four shows at Disney’s California Adventure.
The packages are offered through the Walt Disney Travel Company, and are valid for travel January 6 through April 28, 2009. MousePlanet travel sponsors Small World Vacations (link) and Mouse Ear Vacations (link) can help you book this package. You can book directly through the Disneyland Web site (link), or by calling 866-60-DISNEY (866-603-4763) toll free.
New menu at Ariel’s Grotto
Ariel’s Grotto at Disney’s California Adventure introduced a new menu and price structure. The three-course, fixed-price meal now comes with a shared antipasti appetizer for the entire table, and a final course of a shared dessert tray. Each member of the party can select an entree from the menu, which features entirely new dishes such as Mafalde Pasta with Italian Sausage, Herb-Crusted Chicken Breast, and Cioppino. Kids can choose from new entrees such as Chicken on Sugar Cane Skewers, Seashell Pasta, and Santa Maria Style Tri-tip Strips.
Some readers are annoyed that their favorite Ariel’s Grotto menu items were removed, and question whether this menu change is a result of Disney’s Healthy Dining initiative. Those who have tried the new menu have said they were very impressed with the food, though reviews of the restaurant’s service are mixed.
Prices for the restaurant were raised slightly when the new menu was introduced, and are scheduled to increase again on December 12, 2008. The restaurant also introduced a two-tier pricing system, where reservations booked for tables inside the restaurant are 6-12% more expensive than reservations booked for table on the restaurant’s patio.
You can see the new menu on our Disneyland Resort Guide page (link). If you have the opportunity to try the new menu, be sure to share your opinion with other readers by posting a review to our MousePlanet Review System (link).
Holiday dining at the Disneyland Resort
Reservations opened this weekend for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dining at the Disneyland Resort. Not all menus and offerings were available at press time, but we know that Storyteller’s Cafe and Goofy’s Kitchen will both offer a special Christmas Eve menu. For those who leave such planning to the last minute, the Plaza Inn inside Disneyland will also offer a special meal on Christmas Eve. PCH Grill, Goofy’s Kitchen, Hook’s Point and Steakhouse 55 will all offer a special Christmas Day meal. Priority Seating reservations for any of these locations can be made by calling the Disney Dine Line at 714-781-3463. Reservations for holiday meals at Napa Rose must be booked directly with that restaurant by calling 714-300-7170.

Most Disneyland Resort restaurants and food service locations will feature special holiday themed entrees, desserts and snacks this season, and we’ll share some of the more interesting offerings once the season is underway.
Although there is only one week left in the promotion, we wanted to mention a special HalloweenTime dessert available at Cafe Orleans, Plaza Inn, Storyteller’s Cafe and the Wine Country Trattoria in DCA. The highlight of the dessert is a specially themed demitasse cup, printed with a HalloweenTime design. At the Cafe Orleans, the cup holds freshly prepared espresso, and comes with two beignets accompanied by raspberry coulis and creme anglaise for $7.99. The other participating locations pair the souvenir cup with pumpkin spice cake or pumpkin cheesecake. A Holiday design of the demitasse cup will be available starting November 21. At Cafe Orleans, the beignets will be paired with a pumpkin spiced creme anglaise and cranberry coulis.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts.
This information is pulled from many sources but much thanks go to MouseSavers.com for providing the bulk of the information. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line (link).

Deluxe Annual Passport |
Costco $50 bonus gift card offer – Costco members can receive a $50 Disneyland gift card when they purchase a Deluxe Disneyland Resort annual passport for $269 at a participating Costco location. The offer should be available at all Southern California Costco stores that currently sell Disneyland admission, but the vouchers may not have arrived in all locations yet. If you are a Costco member and live near one of the stores that is not confirmed, please check the next time you’re there and then let us know so we can update the list.] There are no residency restrictions on this ticket, and it can be upgraded to a Deluxe with parking or Premium passport. Better still, the $50 gift card can be applied towards the cost of the upgrades, which nearly pays for the $59 parking option or drops the net cost of a Premium Annual Passport to just $339. Save $30 on a Deluxe Disneyland Resort Annual Passport – If you can’t take advantage of the Costco offer listed above, you can still receive a $30 discount on a Deluxe Disneyland Annual Passport by purchasing your pass online. The offer is valid only on new purchases, and does not apply to renewals. The offer expires 12/31/08. These tickets must be purchased using a special Web site: disneyland.com/deluxeoffer. |
