Alice Davis Honored with A Window on Main Street USA | Carthay Circle Restaurant & Lounge | Cars Land Cuisine | California Adventure Construction Update | This and That… | Crowd Forecast
Alice Davis Honored with A Window on Main Street USA
One of the highest honors for a Disney Imagineer is to receive a window on Disneyland's Main Street USA. Walt Disney began the tradition at his park to honor some of the most influential contributors of Disneyland's development. The honoree would have their name and a reference to their contribution hand painted on one of the windows of Main Street, similar to how advertisements would appear in a small turn-of-the-century town.
The Main Street window honoring Alice Davis is located next to the window honoring her husband, Marc Davis. Both are above the Disneyana store. Photo by Bryan Pugh.
Alice Davis, Disney legend and Imagineer who is best known for her work in costume design for “it's a small world” and Pirates of the Caribbean, received this honor this past week. Located above the Disneyana store, the window honoring Alice Davis reads, “Small World Costume Co. Alice Davis, Seamstress to the Stars.” The location of her window is particularly special because it is next to, and is a paired match to the window of her her husband, fellow Imagineer Marc Davis

In a ceremony that included speeches by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs and Disneyland Resort President George Kalogridis, Alice Davis said, “All things good, you have to wait awhile for it. And after 83 years I got my wish. Because I came down Main Street and I would look up at Marc's Window, and I would think the one next to it to him is not taken yet, so I would be wishing for it and wishing for it, and today the day has come, and I couldn't be more happy, except in knowning for years both Marc and I have had the great pleasure of bringing great fun and joy to people, and that was the jewel of our heart.”

Carthay Circle Restaurant & Lounge
Last week, we showed you some interior photographs of Disney California Adventure's new premiere dining location, the Carthay Circle Restaurant. This week, Disney has released aditional restaurant and menu information.
The Carthay Circle Theatre, which houses the new restaurant, is a replica of the real theater in which Walt Disney debuted Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. The interior of the Carthay Circle Restaurant is adorned with ornate, custom woodwork, textures and tiles that create a warm and rich environment. As guests enter the restaurant, they are greeted in the first-floor foyer, which is decorated with photos and artifacts from the 1937 premier of Disney's first feature-lenth animated film.
The artifacts, which celebrate the Walt Disney Studios throughout the decades, are on loan from the Disney Archives, and will change periodically. Also located downstairs is a 68-seat lounge where guests can enjoy a quick bite, with items such as hot shrimp with chilled spicy tomato shooters, or duck confit sliders with apricot conserve, watercress, crisp onions and Taleggio cheese. Diners can share a plate and grab a glass of wine, craft beer or handcrafted seltzer soda in the Carthay Circle Lounge.
When seated in the main restaurant, guests will be escorted upstairs to the 200-seat dining room, which also includes a 56-seat outdoor terrace. A center atrium skylight will illuminate warm, custom woodwork, rich tones and artwork. The atmosphere of a film premiere celebration is portrayed with photos of Walt and Lillian Disney in formal attire.
Executive Chef Andrew Sutton of the Napa Rose will also be the executive chef of the Carthay Circle Restaurant, backed up by his chef de cuisine, Gloria Tae. The menu, described by Sutton as “Southern California cuisine—breezy, light and fresh” includes five varieties of fish, in dishes such as sushi-grade yellowtail grilled with jerk spice and topped with a tropical salsa of pineapple, mango, black beans and lime. The lunch menu includes an udon noodle bowl with red Thai curry broth, and an Angus burger with Tillamook cheddar cheese. Each server, just as they are at the Napa Rose, will have wine training to help diners pair the right glass with their meal.
Complimentary, center stage viewing for Disney California Adventure's night-time spectacular, World of Color will be made available to each guest who orders an appetizer and entree, or an entree and dessert.
The Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily beginning June 15, 2012. Disney is now accepting reservations which can be made by calling 714-781-DINE or emailing dine@disneyland.com with your requested date, time, and contact information.
Cars Land Cuisine
Following with this week's food theme, Disney also released details surrounding food options for Cars Land. Cars Land is a 12-acre addition to Disney California Adventure park, which is completely inspirited by the Disney/Pixar film Cars. Cars Land focuses on more casual dining options, with Flo's V8 Cafe, Cozy Cone Motel, and Fillmore's Taste-in.

Flo's V8 Cafe is a 330-seat dining location, inspired by the road-side diners of Route 66. On the menu are items such as New York strip loin, citrus-marinated turkey breast, and pork loin flavored with Coca-Cola barbecue sauce.

For those looking for a vegetarian option, Flo's signature dish will be a “veggie-tater” casserole. Flo's V8 Cafe is also expected to serve breakfast specials, such as French toast, chicken tamales, and scrambled eggs. Guests looking for something a little stronger will enjoy craft beers from Bear Republic Brewing Co. and California wines.
Cozy Cone Motel Food and Beverages. Photo by Karl Buiter.
The Cozy Cone Motel is a collection of five “cone”-shaped locations, each serving a different cone-inspired treat. On the collective menus will be Churro Bites, soft-serve ice cream and “route” beer floats, chili “cone” queso, pretzel bites, dill pickles, and sweet and spicy popcorn.
Fillmore's Taste-in will be the place to grab a quick bite such as whole cut fruit, bottled water and juices and soft drinks.

2013
- 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – January 18–20. No additional details are available.
- D23 Expo – August 9–11. Tickets for the three-day convention go on sale August 9, 2012.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau Web site (link). When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the Resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts & Promotions
Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket–only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts.
If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
One Day, One Park Ticket – Regularly $80/$74 One Day Park Hopper – Regularly $105/$99 |
No discounts currently available to the general public. Check with your employer, school or credit union to see if any discounts are available through them. |

Two Day, One Park per Day Ticket – Regularly $158/$146 Two Day Park Hopper – Regularly $173/$161 |
SoCal Resident 2–Day 1–Park per Day ticket ($99) The SoCal Resident 2–Day 1–Park per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before June 8, 2012. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you can not use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $99 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park–hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $15, a savings of up to $59 compared to the box office price of a two–day park–hopper ticket. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until June to use the second admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by June 1, 2012. Tickets expires June 8, 2012, and are blocked out March 30–April 15, and June 4 and 5, 2012. While Disney states that proof of residency required for purchase and admission, MousePlanet readers who have purchased similar tickets from off–property retailers during past resident discount promotions consistently reported that they were not required to provide proof of residency at the time of purchase. However, be aware that Disneyland Resort Main Gate cast members can–and may–require proof of residency when you first use the tickets. Whether the residency checks occur is an oft–debated topic on our MousePad discussion boards, but it is your responsibility to know the official policy, regardless of what the park's actual practice may be. Now for the official fine print:
• TICKET IS BLOCKED OUT March 30, 2012 – April 15, 2012 and June 4, 2012 – June 5, 2012. Check with your employer, school or credit union to see if other discounts are available through them. |

Disney Visa – Cardholders have access to a private Character Meet 'N' Greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free 5×7 photograph per visit. Cardholders also receive 10% off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney–operated retail stores, 10% off at selected Disneyland Resort restaurants, (Big Thunder Ranch, River Belle Terrace, French Market, Cocina Cucamonga, Steakhouse 55, PCH Grill and Storyteller's Café), and 20% off the “Welcome to Disneyland,” “A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps,” and “Discover the Magic” guided tours. See the Disney Visa website for terms and conditions.
Landry's Select Club – Members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10% discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club as of March 31, 2012. If you are already a Safari Club member, you can migrate your membership to the new Landry's Select Club at no charge, and start to earn points in the new program. All Safari Club points and benefits expire on March 31, so if you have any gift certificates left to redeem, you have just a week to do so. The new Select Club eliminated the entree discount and free appetizer offer that was included with the Safari Club, replacing them with a point–based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. If you are not yet a member of either the Safari Club or the Landry's Select Club, you can pre–purchase your membership before your trip. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward.
ESPNZone MVP Club – Membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25% increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
