AP Winners Notified for Candlelight Ceremonies at Disneyland
Disneyland has notified those Annual Passholders who have been selected to attend one of this year's Candlelight Ceremony and Processional presentations. We reported a few weeks ago that Disney decided to cancel plans for dining packages and would instead hold an Annual Passholder drawing. Each passholder was allowed to enter multiple dates and times, and if selected, would be able to attend one of the two nightly ceremonies between December 3 to 20, 2012 at Disneyland.

Early this past week, Disney sent notification email those who entered the drawing that indicated whether they had been selected to attend. If you were selected in the drawing:
- Confirm the date and time of the ceremony you were selected for – there are two ceremonies per night, and your confirmation email indicates which you were chosen for.
- Print out the acceptance email – Disney is not accepting an electronic version of the email on your device (such as your smartphone).
- Have your entire party is present when you check in.
- Make sure each person in your party has an Annual Passport and photo identification.
- Check in no later than 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony – seating begins during a 20-minute window before the start of the ceremony, and late arrives will not be permitted to sit once they close the seating area 10 minutes before the ceremony start.
Disney is providing complimentary parking for non-premium passholder invitees on the day of the event at both the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure and the Toy Story parking lot. Check-in begins at noon.

Disney is also providing 1-Day, 1-Park admission to Disneyland for guests with expired or blacked out Annual Passports.
Guests who were either not selected to attend, or are not Annual Passholders, can still view the Candlelight Ceremony from standing room-only positions around Town Square. These areas do fill up quickly, however, and are sometimes held by guests from as early as park opening. Remember that the event is held outdoors and is subject to weather-related cancelation; rain has already forced the cancellation of several shows.
So as to not interrupt the Candlelight Ceremony, the Disneyland Railroad closes at 4:00 p.m. on each evening that an event is held.
D23 Announces 2013 Events
D23, the Official Disney Fan Club has announced the 2013 event calendar that includes the next D23 Fanniversary Celebration events, special movie screenings, a tour of the Walt Disney Studios and Archives, and the return of the D23 Expo to the Anaheim Convention Center.
D23 Disney Fanniversary Celebration (March and April, 2013) – This event is hosted by Disney Archivists and D23 Team Members who present attendees with and inside look at the history and development of theme park attractions, animated and live action films, and TV series. In 2013 the D23 Disney Fanniversary Celebration will visit Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C. The event is open to the public, with special admission and surprises for D23 members in attendance. Pricing and exact dates have yet to be announced.
50 and Fabulous and From the Vault – 50 and Fabulous celebrates the 50th anniversary of a select Disney movie and From the Vault brings a live-action film back to the big screen. Both movie screening events take place at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California:
- Saturday, April 13 – 50 and Fabulous: Son of Flubber
- Saturday, June 8 – 50 and Fabulous: Summer Magic
- Saturday, Septebmer 15 – 50 and Fabulous: Sword in the Stone
- Saturday, November 16 – From the Vaults: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Mickey's of Glendale Shopping Day (Saturday, April 13 and Saturday June 8) – D23 opens the doors to the Walt Disney Imagineering employee store, Mickey's of Glendale. The shopping excursion is exclusive to D23 members.
D23 Day at the Walt Disney Studios and Archives (Saturdays May 4, June 1, September 14, and November 2) – A D23 members-only tour of the historic Disney Studio Lot and Walt Disney Archives in Burbank.
D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event (August 9 to 11) – Held at the Anaheim Convention Center across the street from the Disneyland Resort, this bi-annual convention brings all of Disney under one roof. From the Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Parks to Disney consumer products and media networks, guests can attend special panels, presentations and movie screenings. Purchase your ticket for the 2013 D23 Expo on the D23 web site.
Disney and Dickens (December) – A reception, tour, and screening at the original Animation building at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.
At Walt Disney World – the return of the D23 Sip and Stroll at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in Walt Disney World (September 2013) and an all-new D23's Holiday Splendor in December. Specific details for these events have not yet been released.
Although a D23 membership is not required for all events, members in attendance do receive special discounts and surprises. For more information, visit D23.com.
Toys for Tots Donation Drive
The relationship between the U.S. Marine Corps annual Toys for Tots donation drive and Walt Disney goes back more than 60 years, when in 1948, Walt's publicity artists designed the now-familiar train logo for the campaign. Since its inception, the Toys for Tots drive has distributed more than 400 million toys to children for the holidays. Now through December 10, 2012 you can donate a new, unwrapped toy to any of the following locations in the Downtown Disney District:

- World of Disney
- ESPN Zone
- Jamba Juice
- Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen
- House of Blues

On December 8, US Marines and fire fighters will be collecting toys on the Downtown Disney main stage from noon to 5:00 p.m. Each person who donates a toy on that day, at that location receives a free ESPN Zone game card worth $5, which can be used to play arcade games at the ESPN Zone Sports Area at Downtown Disney.
This and That…
… U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant, and Disneyland cast member Russell Fenton has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Awarded for acts of heroism, merit or meritorious service in a combat zone, the Bronze Star is the fourth-highest combat decoration. Russell Fenton served in Afghanistan and oversaw one of the largest construction efforts there.
… A few weeks ago, we reported that guests entering either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure park with four- or five-day tickets were required to show identification. It now appears that Disneyland has extended the ID requirement to all multi-day tickets. Guests should be prepared to show their tickets and identification when park hopping.

Current Refurbishments and Attraction Closures
Note: Not all of these have been officially confirmed by Disney, and are all subject to change at any time. We recommend checking for updates as you plan your visit.
Disneyland
- Indiana Jones Adventure – closed until December 7 for refurbishment.
- Haunted Mansion – closed January 7–17, 2013 for removal of Haunted Mansion Holiday.
- Primeval World – closed January 7–23, 2013 for refurbishment, will not effect the operation of the Disneyland Railroad.
- Fantasmic! – dark January 7 to February 14, 2013 for refurbishment
- Mark Twain Riverboat – closed January 7 to March 28 for refurbishment
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – closed January 7 to October 30, 2013 for a major refurbishment.
- Princess Fantasy Faire/Fantasyland Theater – closed until Summer 2013 for refurbishment of the Fantasyland Theater. The Princess meet-and-greet is relocated to the terrace near “it's a small world” until the new Fantasy Faire opens.
- Troubadour Treats – closed until Summer 2013 for refurbishment of the Fantasyland Theater. An internal document lists May 23 as the reopening date, but this may just be a placeholder.
- Plaza Gardens – closed until January 2014 for the construction of the new Fantasy Faire.
Disney California Adventure
- Mickey's Fun Wheel – closed for refurbishment through December 6.
- Silly Symphony Swings – closed for refurbishment January 7 to February 17, 2013.
- Grizzly River Run – closed for refurbishment January 7 to February 28, 2013.

- 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend (sold out) – January 18–20.
- Grad Nite events – this party for high school seniors graduating in 2013 will be held on 22 dates in 2013: May 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31; June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21. The 2013 event includes admission to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure during regular operating hours, and a private party in Disneyland after the park closes to the public for the night.
- D23 Expo – August 9–11. Tickets for the three-day convention are now on sale.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

If you were already in the market for a 4-day Parkhopper and plan to spend $50 at Costco, this deal will save you $65.00, but it may not be a real value if you aren't an avid Costco shopper. Character Dining Vouchers – Discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel.
Disney Visa – Cardholders have access to a private Character Meet 'N' Greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free 5×7 photograph per visit. Cardholders also receive 10% off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney–operated retail stores, 10% off at selected Disneyland Resort restaurants, (Big Thunder Ranch, River Belle Terrace, French Market, Cocina Cucamonga, Steakhouse 55, PCH Grill and Storyteller's Café), and 20% off the “Welcome to Disneyland,” “A Walk in Walt's Footsteps,” and “Discover the Magic” guided tours. Landry's Select Club – Members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10% discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club as of March 31, 2012. If you are already a Safari Club member, you can migrate your membership to the new Landry's Select Club at no charge, and start to earn points in the new program. The new Select Club eliminated the entree discount and free appetizer offer that was included with the Safari Club, replacing them with a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. If you are not yet a member of either the Safari Club or the Landry's Select Club, you can pre-purchase your membership before your trip. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward.
ESPNZone MVP Club – Membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25% increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).
