Lunar New Year celebration kicks off at the Disneyland Resort
The Disneyland Resort kicked off the latest Limited Time Magic event this past weekend, Lunar New Year. The traditional Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese New Year celebration mostly takes place at Disney California Adventure park along the San Francisco-inspired street and Pacific Wharf. Guests can learn the art of Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, traditional crafts, and meet Disney characters.

Special food options are available at the Pacific Wharf Cafe, the Lucky Fortune Cookery, Downtown Disney and along the San Francisco inspired street.

Phans55, a Vietnamese bistro with locations in Fullerton and Irvine, is hosting a food location in Downtown Disney between ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich. The location has an outdoor grill and two walk-up booths serving the following:

The Limited Time Magic, Lunar New Year celebration is held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Disney California Adventure park through February 13, 2013.
Disney California Adventure stays open late for Annual Passholders Thursdays in February.
DCA held the first night of Annual Passholder extended hours this past Thursday evening. The special event allows Annual Passholders to experience select attractions at DCA two hours after park closing. While Disney has not said exactly which attractions will be open for the event, the first night saw most major attractions open including, Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi's Flying Tires, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Tower of Terror, California Screamin', and Toy Story Midway Mania. Dining options included Flo's V8 Cafe, Cozy Cones, and Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta.
To participate, all guests must be valid Annual Passholders. You must present your passport on the day of entry. Check-in begins at noon on the day of the event only. Passholders are issued a wristband, which grants access to the open attractions during the two-hour event. It is strongly advised that Passholders who attend park at either the Mickey and Friends parking structure or the Toy Story lot, since the trams and shuttles to those parking areas run for one hour after the end of the event; all others will stop running at their normally scheduled time.

DCA quietly celebrates its 12th anniversary.
Over the past several years, Disney has let California Adventure's anniversary date quietly slip by, and this year was no different. DCA was originally dedicated by Michael Eisner on February 8, 2001. The first decade was a rocky one; the park was deemed a failure when it didn't live up to expectations. The result was a multi-year reconstruction, expansion, and rebirth of the park. But since the rededication of June 15, 2012, and the launch of both Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, DCA has become a popular destination for the Disneyland Resort.

Disney did acknowledge the park's anniversary on both the Disneyland and DCAToday Twitter accounts, with DCAToday giving away 12 cupcakes signifying the park's 12th anniversary. However, the lack of any official in-park announcement or even a small celebration for guests in attendance suggests that Disney may be looking to shift future anniversary celebrations to the relaunch date of June 15. The first anniversary of the relaunch and opening of Cars Land is only four months away, and we may get our answer then.
The Disneyland Resort will soon begin enforcing FASTPASS return times.
Since the launch of Disney's Fastpass service more than a decade ago, Disneyland has remained flexible on return times, allowing guests to enter the Fastpass queues hours past their scheduled one hour window. Last year, Walt Disney World began to enforce the Fastpass return times and since then, speculation has been that Disneyland would soon follow. This past week, Disney placed signs on top of Fastpass machines throughout the Disneyland Resort that asked guests to return during their assigned one-hour window. While currently not enforced, cast member sources have confirmed that, starting next Monday, February 18, Disneyland no longer plans to honor Fastpass returns outside of the one-hour assigned return time.

Although Disney maintains that this is not a change in policy, it will clearly be a change in practice. It is not yet clear how strictly the change will be enforced, but what is clear, if you are planing to use a Fastpass ticket at the Disneyland Resort after next Monday, you will need to plan your return to the attraction before your printed time expires on your Fastpass.

… Annual Passholders can attend screenings of both Lady and the Tramp and Mulan at the Disneyland Main Street Opera House. Mulan will be shown to coincide with the Lunar New Year celebration on February 11 and 12. Lady and the Tramp will be shown as part of “True Love” week February 13 through 17. Passholders will need to obtain a wristband at the Opera House on the day of the screening they wish to attend.
… Celebrate Gospel is returning to Disney California Adventure park on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Choirs from around Southern California will perform between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Stage 17 building in Hollywood Land.

- New Orleans Bayou Bash – a Limited Time Magic event. Entertainment and characters in New Orleans Square from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m February 8–12.
- Lunar New Year – a Limited Time Magic event. February 8–11 from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. at Disney California Adventure park.
- True Love Week – a Limited Time Magic event. February 11–17 at Disneyland. Special menus at the Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans, Carthay Circle Restaurnt, Stakehouse 55, and Napa Rose.
- Grad Nite events – this party for high school seniors graduating in 2013 will be held on 22 dates in 2013: May 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31; June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21. The 2013 event includes admission to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure during regular operating hours, and a private party in Disneyland after the park closes to the public for the night.
- D23 Expo – August 9–11. Tickets for the three-day convention are now on sale.
- Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – August 30 through September 1 at the Disneyland Resort. Registration for the 10K and Half Marathon are both sold out, although spaces are still available through charity teams and select travel agencies.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. Military 3-Day Park Hopper Discount – active and retired U.S. military can now purchase up to six 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hoppers at the discounted price of $125 each, a 50 percent savings off the regular adult price. The tickets may be used through September 28, 2013 with block-out days from now through January 2, February 15–17, March 25 through April 5, and July 4.
Valid only for active duty or retired U.S. Military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid and active U.S. Military (or Military spouse) ID required for purchase and admission. Limited to one (1) purchase of up to six (6) tickets per valid ID and Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission.
Annual Passholder offers – Disneyland has once again extended the 20% merchandise discount offered to Premium annual passholders. The discount is now valid through December 31, 2013.
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and generally can not be combined—you must choose one of the eligible offers. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel.
Disney Visa – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free 5×7 photograph per visit. Cardholders also receive 10 percent off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney-operated retail stores, 10 percent off at selected Disneyland Resort restaurants, (Big Thunder Ranch, River Belle Terrace, French Market, Cocina Cucamonga, Steakhouse 55, PCH Grill and Storyteller's Café), and 20 percent off the “Welcome to Disneyland,” “A Walk in Walt's Footsteps,” and “Discover the Magic” guided tours. Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club as of March 31, 2012. If you are already a Safari Club member, you can migrate your membership to the new Landry's Select Club at no charge, and start to earn points in the new program. The new Select Club eliminated the entree discount and free appetizer offer that was included with the Safari Club, replacing them with a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. If you are not yet a member of either the Safari Club or the Landry's Select Club, you can pre-purchase your membership before your trip. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward.
ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).
