DCA debuting Disney California Story guided tour
Information about a new guided tour of Disney California Adventure was released to cast members last week. Disney has yet to officially announce the new offering through its social media channels, and the new tour does not yet appear on the guided tours page of the Disneyland website, but the tour office is accepting reservations.
Highlights of the three-hour tour include a visit to the 1901 Lounge—the private Club 33 venue inside Disney California Adventure—and priority access to three attractions (Soarin' Over California, Radiator Springs Racers, and the Animation Academy). The tour ends with lunch provided at the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe on Buena Vista Street.
The tour is priced at $109 per person ($87.20 for annual passholders, Disney Vacation Club members, Disney Visa cardholders, and AAA members). When we spread word of the tour last week, many of our readers expressed shock at the price. Disneyland's guided tours are usually priced about the same as a one-day, one-park ticket, which is currently $96.

This unique place embraces the richness and diversity of California… its land, its people, its stories, and above all, the dreamers it continues to inspire.
These inspiring words can be found on the dedication plaque located on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure Park. They tell our Guests what to expect from the California adventure they are about to experience. And on July 17, the Guest Relations team will immerse our Guests even further into this story with the debut of a new guided tour called Disney California Story.
The three-hour tour will tell the story of the early 1900s in California when Walt Disney set out on an adventure of a lifetime to fulfill his dreams. Through storytelling of our attractions and landmarks, Guests will experience California as Walt once did.
The daily tour begins at 10 a.m. and includes three attraction experiences and an exclusive look into the 1901 Lounge. Guests will also be given a collectible pin and a private lunch on Buena Vista Street. Check in for the tour is located at the Chamber of Commerce, near the park entrance.
Tour prices per person are $109 for Guests ages three and older. Cast Members receive a 35 percent discount on this tour. A 20 percent discount is offered to Disney Rewards, Visa, AAA cardholders, Disney Vacation Club members and Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders. Separate theme park admission is not included in the price of the tour.
Tours may be booked up to 30 days in advance by calling 714-781-TOUR (8687). Same-day bookings may be available. Tours in languages other than English are available with advance notice.
Radiator Springs Racers Fastpass change
Radiator Springs Racers has been put back on the Fastpass network, much to the disappointment of those visitors who had read our Fastpass Guide or otherwise knew about the loophole. While most Fastpass machines in each park are linked, the machines for Radiator Springs Racers and World of Color were not. This meant you could obtain a Fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers and then immediately obtain a Fastpass for another ride without having to wait two hours, or obtain a Fastpass for Radiator Springs Races before you would otherwise be eligible to do so because of other Fastpass tickets you held.
This change definitely means a change in Fastpass strategy for those visiting Disney California Adventure. While we still recommend getting a Fastpass for Racers as soon as you enter the park if that is your must-do ride, you now have to wait up to two hours before getting another Fastpass. Some believe this change was prompted by the reopening of Grizzly River Run last week, and was intended to force visitors to chose between the two attractions during the summer season.

World of Color is now the only attraction not on the network, meaning you can get a World of Color Fastpass at any time before distribution ends for the day.
Disney confirms executive changes
It's been weeks since news of management changes at the American and French Disney parks first surfaced, but Disney has yet to make any public announcement, change the published organizational charts, or even update the official biographies of the people involved.
Based on a reorganization announcement sent to Disney employees, Daniel Delcourt, Disneyland's former Vice President, Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney District, has returned to Disneyland Paris to replace Joe Schott as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Schott has returned to Walt Disney World and a Vice President-level operations position.
Replacing Delcourt is Jon Storbeck, the former Vice President, Disneyland Park. Storbeck was in turn replaced by Mary Niven, the former Vice President of Disney California Adventure.
The new DCA VP is Kris Theiler, who formerly served as Vice President, Planning and Operations Support, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
These are all considered lateral transfers of vice president-level executives, though it could certainly be viewed as a promotion of sorts for Mary Niven, who is coming from Disney California Adventure to Disneyland.
MousePlanet reached out to the Disneyland Resort for comment last week, and a spokesman confirmed the changes that involved the California resort, saying in a written statement, “These organizational changes will further enable us to achieve business priorities and continue to strategically position and develop our talent.”
2014 All American College Band debut
The 2014 Disneyland All American College band made its debut last week, with 21 performers from colleges around the country under the direction of Dr. Ron McCurdy from the University of Southern California. The band performs Tuesday through Saturday at:
- 1:50 p.m. – Hollywood Backlot Stage
- 3:25 p.m. – Castle/Main Street/Train Station
- 5:10 p.m. – Flag Retreat
- 6:00 p.m. – Pre-Parade (before the second Soundsational parade)
- 7:15 p.m. – Train Station
The set list changes from year to year to reflect current musical trends and incorporate new Disney movies. It should be no surprise that the band added “Let It Go” from Frozen to the 2014 repertoire.

- Grad Nite events – Remaining dates for this party for high school seniors graduating in 2014 are June 18 and 19. The 2014 event includes admission to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park during regular operating hours, and a private party in Disney California Adventure park from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
- 7th Annual Taste of Downtown Disney – Thursday, August 14. This annual fundraiser for Children's Hospital Orange County includes appetizers and wine tasting at several participating Downtown Disney restaurants. Tickets go on sale June 20 via the event website.
- Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – August 29–31 (Labor Day weekend). All events are full.
Fall
- Halloween Time – mid-September to October 31.
- Dapper Day Fall Soiree – Friday, September 12. More information at the event website.
- Mickey's Halloween Party – 2014 event dates not yet announced.
- Gay Days at Disneyland – October 3–5. (Unofficial event) More information on the event website.
- 2014 CHOC Walk in the Park – Sunday, October 12 at the Disneyland Resort. Event details and registration information will be available at a later date.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 16–17. Expect unusually large attendance levels October 17–21 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 14–16. Registration for all events are full. More information at the runDisney website.
Winter
- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort – mid-November to early January.
2015
- Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend – January 15–18, 2015. This new event weekend includes 5K, 10K, and half-marathon, along with runDisney kids races, event expo and Wookie Welcome party. All running events sold out within hours of registration. More information at the runDisney website.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 7–10, 2015. (Mother's Day weekend). The weekend includes 5K, 10K and half-marathon, along with runDisney kids races, event expo and Pasta in the Park party. Annual Passholder early registration opens Wednesday, August 6. General registration opens Tuesday, August 12. More information at the runDisney website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club–members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and now runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Disneyland Resort merchandise – Disneyland extended the 20 percent merchandise discount offered to Premium annual passholders through December 31, 2014. 30% off rooms at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii –Disneyland Resort annual passholders can take 30% off select rooms at Aulani, now through December 19. You can choose between a standard hotel room, which offers traditional hotel amenities, or Disney Vacation Club villas with kitchens and in-room laundry. Standard rooms start around $300 per night after discount, with upgrades to better views and larger villas available. A 2-bedroom villa with an ocean view can run more than $1000 per night, but includes a full kitchen and sleeps up to 9 people.
