Mickey's Halloween Party details
Mickey's Halloween Party began the 2014 season last Friday night, and attendees of the first event shared some details about what to expect if you plan to go trick-or-treating with Mickey this year. There are 10 trick-or-treat trails spread throughout the park, with gluten-free and sugar-free candy available at the first (door) station of each trail. There are just as many character photo locations, and of course, Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, the two big Halloween attractions.
As in past years, the entire Halloween Party is a non-smoking event. Smoking—including e-cigarettes—is permitted only in the main entrance plaza.
Pre-parties
New this year is a Halloween Carnival pre-party in the Big Thunder Ranch area. This Halloween Carnival closes to day guests at 4:30 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Fridays), and reopens at 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. on Fridays) exclusively for event guests with wristbands. This special pre-party gives event guests exclusive access to the Halloween Carnival (including the Conjure a Villain experience) for two hours until Mickey's Halloween Party officially begins. This is a welcome addition, especially since this area is closed during the main party.
Returning this year is the Toontown Treat pre-party. This early trick-or-treat opportunity follows the same hours as the Halloween Carnival pre-party. Both early events are only open to guests who have their event wristband, so if you're spending the day in the park and have tickets to that night's party, be sure to collect your wristband and trick-or-treat bag as soon as the early admission period opens—4:00 p.m. for Friday night events, and 3:00 p.m. for all other events. There's no need to go all the way back to the main entrance to collect these items—a distribution center located near the Fantasyland theater is open until the official start time.
Entertainment
Most of the entertainment schedule is the same for all events, regardless of night:
- Mickey's Costume Party Cavalcade and Frozen Pre-Parade – 8:20 p.m. and 10:20 p.m.
- Halloween Screams – A Villainous Surprise in the Skies Fireworks – 9:30 p.m.
- Monsters U Dance Party at Tomorrowland Terrace – 7:45, 8:45, 9:45, and 10:45 p.m.
- Cadaver Dans on the Rivers of America – 7:45, 8:45, 9:45, and 10:45 p.m.
The only exception is the Disney Villains appearance in Town Square.
- Weekdays – 7:15, 8:00, 9:00, 9:45, and 10:50 p.m.
- Fridays – 8:00, 9:00, 9:45, 11:00, and 11:50 p.m.

There are quite a number of character locations during this event, each staffed with PhotoPass photographers to help capture (and sell you a photo of) the moment:

Rides
Most rides are open during the event, though the following rides are scheduled to be closed during certain parties:
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant – closed during events on October 28, 30, and 31.
- “it's a small world” – closed during events on October 20, 22, 24, 27, 29, and 31.
- Mad Tea Party – closed during events on October 15, 18, 21, and 23.

Shopping
Official event merchandise is available at the Main Street Emporium and The Star Trader in Tomorrowland. Additional Halloween merchandise is available at the Disney Showcase, Pieces of Eight, and Pioneer Mercantile.

Dining
With the exception of a brownie-and-marshmallow skewer offered at the Bengal Barbecue, there is no event-specific food for Mickey's Halloween Party. Most park restaurants are open during the party, with some closing earlier than others.
Ticketing
All Friday night dates for Mickey's Halloween Party are now sold out for 2014, as are the events on October 8 and 14. Tickets are still available for tonight (September 30); October 6, 20, 22, 27, and 29. Tickets are available via Disneyland.com and at Disneyland ticket booths.
However, if you are staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel and need tickets for a sold-out night, check with your front desk first thing in the morning. MousePlanet Community Leader Angela told us that a small number of tickets are reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and are released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party She warns that these tickts sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
Passholder Treat Station
As we reported last week, annual passholders have exclusive access to a Treat Station Main Street Opera House during Mickey's Halloween Party nights, where you “get to watch ongoing screenings of Halloween-themed Disney classics and enjoy a tasty treat.” All you have to do is show your event wristband and annual pass.
On Friday, guests received a Big Hero 6 drawstring bag and a Mickey crispy treat, but reader Teresa warns that the Opera House closes an hour before the official end of the party. Be sure to stop by between 6:00 p.m. (7:00 on Fridays) and one hour before the event ends to collect your treats.

Following up on the story we reported last week, Disneyland has indeed removed the benches from the alcoves along the bridge to Sleeping Beauty Castle. The walls were repainted to match the existing faux brickwork, and the flagpoles are still in place.

Next, workers will install higher railings along the bridge, bringing the total barrier height to 42 inches. Markings along the bridge show where the uprights for these new rails will be installed.

This project is just the latest in a series of projects to raise the height of fences around bodies of water throughout the Disneyland Resort. Long time readers may remember that the railings along the waterway outside the newly constructed Princess Fantasy Fair were replaced, as was the fence on either side of the bridge leading into Frontierland.

Discount Disneyland Resort tickets available during CHOC-Tober
The 24th Annual CHOC Walk in the Park takes place at the Disneyland Resort before park hours on Sunday, October 12. This annual fundraiser for CHOC Children's – Children's Hospital of Orange County raised over $2 million in 2013, and organizers are looking to raise even more in 2014.
As the event draws closer, CHOC organizers have asked that we share details of the CHOC-Tober discount tickets available to walkers who participate in the 2014 CHOC Walk:
Present your CHOC Walk In the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase a special CHOC-Tober Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $78 or a 1-Day 1-Park Ticket for $50 for use on this or your next trip to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park! A maximum of 5 tickets may be purchased per wristband. Offer valid on 10/12/2014. Tickets must be purchased on the day of the Walk and expire 11/7/2014.
This discount represents a savings of up to $46 off of a one-day ticket, and up to $72 off of a one-day park hopper ticket. Participants must raise a minimum of $50 for CHOC to receive the wristband and be eligible to purchase the tickets, but walkers can fundraise or make a personal donation to cover this amount. Even if you pay the $50 out of pocket to register one family member, a family of five could still save over $300 by participating. This discount is one of the best perks of the CHOC Walk, and we encourage you to take advantage of it if possible.

…After a lengthy refurbishment, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage has reopened at Disneyland. Most visitors won't notice any major upgrades to the ride, but the coral is notably brighter, the rocks freshly painted, and the video effects seem just a bit sharper than I recall from my last voyage eight months ago.

…Rumors of a runDisney event in Paris have been swirling for quite some time, fueled by a Disney survey asking about interest in such an event, and photos of buttons advertising a September, 2015 event which were distributed at a cast member fun run in May. [The user who posted the button photo to Instagram has since removed it].
We've all been waiting for an announcement, but runDisney has kept completely mum on the subject. There was even some speculation that the early registration of the Tinker Bell half marathon was due to the coming Paris race—Disney didn't want runners to choose between them, and wanted Tink to sell out before they announced Paris.
Now DLRPExpress.com, a French-language Disney site, has posted to Facebook a photo taken last week inside Disneyland Paris. The photo is a runDisney set-up, with a man and woman running across finish line tape just ahead of Mickey Mouse. Let's hope this means an announcement will happen very shortly, so interested runners can start making their travel plans. Quite a few Team MousePlanet runners are planning to make the trip. …We mentioned last week that scalloped metal edges had been added to railings around the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage queue. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.

- Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 14–16. All events are sold out. Details at the runDisney website.
Winter
- Holiday parade taping at Disneyland – November 7–9. Disney never officially confirms when the West Coast segments of the annual holiday parade are filmed at Disneyland, but cast members and the parent of a child performing in the annual production have verified that this year's taping takes place over Veteran's Day weekend. Filming is always subject to change with no notice, and we don't encourage readers to make a special trip just to see the filming.
- Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort – November 13 to January 6, 2015.
- Candlelight Processional – December 6 and 7 (unconfirmed). Performances times and narrator(s) have not yet been announced.
- Viva Navidad – Three Kings Day activities – January 2–6, 2015
2015
- Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend – January 15–18, 2015. This new event weekend includes 5K, 10K, and half-marathon, along with runDisney kids races, event expo and Wookie Welcome party. All running events sold out within hours of registration. Details at the runDisney website.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 7–10, 2015 (Mother's Day weekend). All events are sold out. Details at the runDisney website.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2014–2015 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($132) |
A discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2013–2014 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through October 3, 2014. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $132 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. Tickets are blocked out November 27, 2014 through November 29, 2014; December 24, 2014 through December 31, 2014; and March 30, 2015 through April 4, 2015 . Unlike past years, this ticket is not blocked out on the 4th of July. As far as we can tell, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. Please note that this ticket is not a “bonus” ticket, and so does not include an early admission day. 2014 Southern California CityPASS ($328/$284) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego and a one-day admission to Universal Studios Hollywood. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2014. Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club–members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and now runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Disneyland Resort merchandise – Disneyland extended the 20 percent merchandise discount offered to Premium annual passholders through December 31, 2014. 30% off rooms at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii –Disneyland Resort annual passholders can take 30% off select rooms at Aulani, now through December 19. You can choose between a standard hotel room, which offers traditional hotel amenities, or Disney Vacation Club villas with kitchens and in-room laundry. Standard rooms start around $300 per night after discount, with upgrades to better views and larger villas available. A 2-bedroom villa with an ocean view can run more than $1000 per night, but includes a full kitchen and sleeps up to 9 people. Character Meet-and-Greet – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free 5″x7″ photograph per visit. Disneyland Resort merchandise – Cardholders also receive 10 percent off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney-operated retail stores. Disneyland Resort dining – 10 percent off at selected Disneyland Resort restaurants, (Big Thunder Ranch, River Belle Terrace, French Market, Cocina Cucamonga, Steakhouse 55, PCH Grill and Storyteller's Café). Disneyland Resort Guided Tours – 20 percent off the “Welcome to Disneyland,” “A Walk in Walt's Footsteps,” and “Discover the Magic” guided tours. Discounts for US Military |
2013–2014 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($129) – a discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2013–2014 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through September 25, 2014. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $129 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. Please note that this ticket is not a “bonus” ticket, and so does not include an early admission day.
