Fantasmic Fastpass | Changes to Disability Access Service | New private dining for New Orleans Square | Christmas in DCA | This and that… | Crowd Forecast
Fantasmic Fastpass
Last Friday, Disneyland debuted a new Fastpass system for the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic. As is the case with a smiliar program for the World of Color show in Disney California Adventure, with Fastpass comes a new Fantasmic Dining Package program, plus new Fastpass-only and standby viewing areas. We detailed the new program several weeks ago in Fantasmic Fastpass: The Guide, but have additional information based on the first weekend of operation.

Starting from most-expensive and working down to the no-charge options, here are the six new ways to see Fantasmic at Disneyland:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Blue Bayou Dinner Package |
You can reserve a Fantasmic dinner package at the Blue Bayou, a three-course fixed-price meal with your choice of starter, entree, dessert, and beverage. The package includes all of the entrees from the normal Blue Bayou dinner menu. Dinner service begins at 4 p.m. The restaurant will also accept regular (non-Fantasmic dining) reservations. This location can accommodate many dietary restrictions, so be sure to note your restrictions when you make the reservation, and ask to speak with a manager or chef when you arrive to discuss specifics. The cost is $61 for adults ($23 for ages 3-9), and does not include tax and gratuity. Premium and Premier passholders receive a 15 percent discount; all other passes receive a 10 percent discount. Booking this package garners you the best viewing area, a front-and-center spot in front of the center light tower. This is a ground-seating area, and you receive a souvenir Fantasmic cushion to sit on during the show. |
River Belle Terrace Dinner Package |
Starting December 12, the River Bell Terrace introduced a new table-service operation specifically for Fantasmic dining packages. Counter-service stops at 2:00 p.m., and the eatery reopens at 3:00 p.m. as a table-service operation that offers a three-course fixed-price Fantasmic dinner, which includes starter, entree and dessert (see Fantasmic Fastpass: The Guide for menu details). This location can accommodate many dietary restrictions, so be sure to note your restrictions when you make the reservation, and ask to speak with a manager or chef when you arrive to discuss specifics. The cost is $41.99 for adults ($22.99 for ages 3-9), and does not include tax and gratuity. Premium and Premier passholders receive a 15 percent discount; all other passes receive a 10 percent discount. Guests who book this package have reserved viewing on the lower level of the viewing area. The section has a mixture of standing and seating. Subject to availability, you may also request to remain in the River Belle Terrace seating area and watch the show from your table. |
Hungry Bear Dessert Experience |
The Fantasmic Dessert Experience at the Hungry Bear Restaurant is a new offering, and includes a plated dessert assortment, live entertainment, and a separate reserved viewing area for Fantasmic (see Fantasmic Fastpass: The Guide for menu details) Nut- or gluten-free dessert options are available upon request—be sure to note your request when you make your reservation. At this time, there are no plans for a sugar-free option, but that may change if there is enough demand. The cost is $29.99 for ages 3 and up, and includes tax and gratuity. Premium and Premier passholders receive a 15 percent discount; all other passes receive a 10 percent discount. Each dessert service begins 90 minutes before show time. Guests who book this package are escorted to a separate reserved viewing area for Fantasmic prior to the show. The assigned section is ground seating, near the Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island. |
Aladdin's Oasis On the Go Meal |
Similar to the (now discontinued) World of Color picnics, the Fantasmic On the Go meal at Aladdin's Oasis offers a more flexible option for those who don't want to devote the time or money to one of the table-service options, but are willing to spend $20 per person to reserve a Fastpass ticket in advance. Aladdin's Oasis opens from noon to 7 p.m. on two-show nights, and noon to 6 p.m. on one-show nights. You can select a pick-up time when you make your reservation. Limited seating is available in Aladdin's Oasis itself, or you can take your On the Go meal to any counter service restaurant seating area (see Fantasmic Fastpass: The Guide for menu details). This location can accommodate many dietary restrictions, so be sure to note your restrictions when you make the reservation, and ask to speak with a manager or chef when you arrive to discuss specifics. The cost is $19.99 for adults ($13.99 for ages 3-9), and does not include tax and gratuity. Premium and Premier passholders receive a 15 percent discount; all other passes receive a 10 percent discount. Guests who purchase this package will receive a Fastpass ticket, but there are no special viewing areas for this package. Aladdin's Oasis package customers receive tickets for the same general reserved viewing area as those who collect their Fastpass from the Fastpass distribution in the park. The only advantage to this package is the ability to reserve your ticket in advance, which is useful if your entire party cannot make it to the park the morning for you to obtain Fastpass tickets for everyone. |
Fastpass |
This is one of two ways to see Fantasmic without advance reservations. Fastpass tickets are now distributed along Big Thunder Trail starting at park opening. Follow the signs, or look for the large white tents near the entrance to Big Thunder Ranch. The tent houses new portable Fastpass machines designed especially for Fastpass. Tickets are distributed while supplies last, or up to one hour before show time, whichever comes first. The tickets will indicate the show time, return time, and assigned viewing section. As with World of Color, Fastpass distribution begins with the first show. When those tickets are distributed, tickets for the second show become available. Your park ticket must have been used for admission before you can get a Fastpass ticket. This means you cannot send a member of your party in to the park alone get Fastpass tickets for everyone, in advance of everyone else in your group. Likewise, passholders can not get Fastpass tickets for their entire family unless everyone has already entered the park. However, so long as all tickets and passes have been used for admission that day, you can send a runner to get tickets for your entire group. The Fantasmic Fastpass is not linked to the Resort Fastpass system, and will not prevent you from collecting another Fastpass immediately. The lines for the viewing areas open an hour before the show, and seating is first-come, first-served. Even with a Fastpass ticket, you risk having the worst view from your assigned section if you wait until the last minute to arrive for the show. The viewing areas are cleared before each show, so you cannot watch the first performance and stay for the second. |
Standby |
Standby sections on either side of the viewing area, near River Belle Terrace and near the Harbor Galley, provide “limited standby viewing” for people without a Fastpass ticket. This viewing area will open at the same time the reserved Fastpass areas open for each show, and the line forms near the Mark Twain dock—check with a cast member for specific locations. Disney will clear the entire Fantasmic viewing area before each show, so you can no longer arrive hours before the show and camp out for a spot. |

General notes:
- The Fastpass system is in place for the first two showings of Fantasmic each day. If a third show is scheduled or added, the entire viewing area is open on a first-come, first-served basis.
- In the event the showing of Fantasmic for which you hold a Fastpass ticket is cancelled, you may not use that ticket for another show time or date. This applies to dining package tickets as well.
- As with the World of Color packages, there is no refund of your dining package in the event your scheduled performance of Fantasmic is cancelled.
- Children under 3 do not need a Fastpass ticket.
- Dining package customers can select their preferred show time when you make your reservation.
- Dining packages can be booked via Disneyland.com, or by calling (714) 781-DINE (714-781-3463).
- Same-day reservations may be made, subject to availability, up to one hour in advance via Disneyland.com or by calling (714) 781-DINE (714-781-3463).
- Same-day walk-up reservations may also be made at Blue Bayou, River Belle Terrace and Aladdin's Oasis, based on availability.
- Walk-up reservations are not offered for the Hungry Bear dessert package; be sure to make those in advance.
- A credit card is required to reserve one of the dining packages, and there is a $10 per-person cancellation fee if you cancel the reservation less than 24 hours in advance, or do not show for your reservation.
Changes to Disability Access Service
Disney's Disability Access Service has been under fire since it debuted last fall, and is the subject of a federal lawsuit. Last month, Disneyland made a change to the program, eliminating the paper pass in favor of a new system that links the DAS service to the admission ticket of eligible persons and their party. It's a minor change, but some advocates say it demonstrates Disney's attempt to address problems with the original implementation of the DAS.
As before, guests who wish to request accommodation under the DAS begin by visiting City Hall at Disneyland, or the Chamber of Commerce at Disney California Adventure, where Guest Relations cast members will discuss the concerns and needs of each person to determine if whether the person qualifies for the DAS. If they do, cast members take a photo of the eligible person and create a profile in the DAS database. However, rather than printing a DAS ID folio, the cast member now ask the guest to sign a slip containing the updated DAS terms and conditions. This piece of paper has space for guests to record their attraction return times for reference, but is no longer required to be presented at each attraction.
Instead, Disney now links DAS return times to admission tickets. After registering with Guest Relations, DAS-eligible persons can visit any of seven Guest Relations kiosks in the resort—four in Disneyland and three in Disney California Adventure—and request a return time for any attraction in either park. DAS guests must present their admission ticket or annual pass, along with the tickets of their entire party. The cast member issues a return time equal to the current stand-by wait time, minus10 to 15 minutes (for example, 45 to 50 minutes if the stand-by time is 60 minutes). While waiting for their return time, guests using a DAS can obtain a traditional Fastpass from another attraction, ride another attraction with a short line, shop, eat, watch a show, or just wait near the attraction.
At the requested ride, a cast member again scans the admission tickets to verifiy the return time and that the DAS-eligible person is present, then admits the party to either the Fastpass return line (if present) or the alternate entrance (where used). While return times are flexible and the party need not return exactly when stated. They cannot obtain another return time until they have either ridden or decided to skip the previously assigned attraction.
After riding, the DAS-eligible person (or another member of their party) can return to any kiosk to select the next attraction and receive a new return time. If a ride has a stand-by line of under 10 minutes, there is no need to get a return time, which makes using a wait time smartphone application (Disney or unofficial) really useful. As stated before, guests using the DAS can also use the traditional Fastpass system where offered, in effect, “double-dipping.”
The DAS is now valid for up to 60 days over the original 14-day window, a vast improvement for annual passholders.
As before, the DAS is not intended for visitors who use a wheelchair or scooter. These guests are directed to use the accessible alternate entrances at most Disneyland rides, or to obtain a Fastpass-style return times at nine of the most popular “E-ticket” attractions, including Jungle Cruise, Indiana Jones Adventure, Haunted Mansion. Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Peter Pan's Flight, Mad Tea Party, “it's a small world,” or Space Mountain. At these rides, wheelchair users must first visit the attraction in person and receive a return-time slip. As with the DAS, the return time is equal to the current stand-by wait time, minus 10-15 minutes.
All of the queues at Disney California Adventure are considered to be wheelchair accessible, so guests using wheelchairs can use Fastpass or wait in the standby line along with the general public. The one exception may be at Radiator Springs Racers, where cast members use the same return time system as the E-ticket rides in Disneyland on very busy days.
Disneyland has posted a “Modified DAS Message and FAQ” on its website.
New private dining for New Orleans Square
Members of Disneyland's exclusive Club 33 were notified last week of a new dining venue that will open in New Orleans Square next year. The letter, which included the announcement of 21 Royal Street, described it only as a “one-of-a-kind dining and entertaining venue,” and stated that Club 33 members would have priority booking.
Disney has since said that 21 Royal Street is a private dining room that will hold 16 guests, and may be available for the public to book at a later time. The venue is part of the former Disney Gallery space, in a room that was not incorporated into the Dream Suite. Since the closure of the Trophy Room as part of the Club 33 renovation and expansion, the club no longer has a private dining area, or room for parties larger than 10. 21 Royal Street is likely intended to fill the demand for private dining.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of May 2014.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2014–2015 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($132) |
A discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2014–2015 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through October 3, 2015. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $132 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. Tickets are blocked out December 24–31, 2014; and March 30 through April 4, 2015 . Unlike past years, this ticket is not blocked out on the 4th of July. As far as we can tell, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. Please note that this ticket is not a “bonus” ticket, and so does not include an early admission day. For complete information regarding Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets and discounted resort rates, military personnel may visit the Disneyland Resort website, or participating U.S. military base ticket offices. |

Discounts for everyone |
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and now runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct. Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
