Where will Captain America go after Innoventions closes?
Captain America, Thor, and ASIMO were served with eviction notices last week when Disney notified cast members that Innoventions will be closing on March 31. The company says “new plans” are under development for the space, but would not provide any additional details.
Innoventions opened in 1998 in the former Carousel Theater as part of the New Tomorrowland renovation. The original version of the attraction was designed to feature displays of cutting-edge technology from various sponsors. As these displays grew outdated or sponsorships ended, new exhibits and sponsors moved in. Over the years, the Innoventions building has housed a Segway demonstration area, an Xbox arcade, and a Talk to Stitch experience. The Honda ASIMO Theater opened in 2005, and the fictional Elias family moved into the Innoventions Dream Home in 2008.
After St. Joseph Hospital's sponsorship ended in 2013, the vacated space was used for the Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries and Thor: Treasures of Asgard exhibits. Captain America: The Living Legend and Symbol of Courage opened in 2014, and signage around the building has placed a strong emphasis on these Marvel experiences.
The Innoventions Dream Home and the lower floor of the Innoventions building closed in late January. Rumors suggest that the building may be temporarily used for a 60th anniversary museum during Disneyland's upcoming celebration, and then demolished to make way for a new attraction.
It's likely that the closure of Innoventions marks the end of ASIMO's residency at Disneyland, but the Marvel character meet-and-greets are likely to be relocated, especially with the new Avengers movie due out in May. We note that the reopening of the Tomorrowland Starcade, originally scheduled to have taken place March 1, has been postponed indefinitely. That space has been used for character meet-and-greets for movies like Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6, and it's not that much of a stretch to think that the Marvel characters could be next.
First phase of Grizzly Peak expansion opens March 20
Disney announced yesterday that the former Taste Pilots Grill in Disney California Adventure is reopening Friday, March 20 as the Smokejumpers Grill. The redecorated eatery will serve a similar burger-and-sandwich menu, with some thematic modifications.

The restaurant reopens as part of the first phase of the conversion of Condor Flats area into the Grizzly Peak Airfield in the Grizzly Peak expansion. However, it looks like the visitors will have to wait another month or more before they can see the rest of the renovations. Smokejumpers Grill was to have reopened May 13, but is slightly delayed. The former Fly 'n' Buy gift shop was also to have opened on May 13, but as of now is listed as closed until at least April 19.

Replying to a question asked on the Disney Parks Blog, social media director Erin Glover confirmed that only Smokejumpers Grill is opening on March 20, and that the rest of the former Condor Flats area is remaining behind construction walls. This poses a slight inconvenience for guests trying to get to Grizzly River Run, which also reopens March 20, and for guests of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, who have a longer walk to get to Buena Vista Street from their hotel.
The announcement also included confrimation that Soarin' Over California will have a new screen and projection system when it reopens in May, though Glover said the attraction film would not change.

Spring events at Disneyland
St. Patrick's Day in Downtown Disney
Several Downtown Disney locations have special St. Patrick's Day offerings this month. From 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, traditional Celtic dancers perform in front of the Wonderground Gallery.
Catal Restaurant and UVA Bar has a Irish Feast sandwich featuring corned beef on rye with house-made sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. You can wash down your meal with a glass of Karl Strauss Red Trolley Irish Red Ale. This meal is offered throughout March.
On St. Patrick's Tuesday, the ESPN Zone will offer the traditional green beer to go with a plate of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes.
Green beer is also on the St. Patrick's Day menu at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, where their corned beef and cabbage special can be paired with a variety of themed drinks and cocktails.
From March 13 to 17, Crossroads at House of Blues features a special menu with corned beef sliders, Guinness beer cheese soup, fish & chips, and a classic corned beef Reuben sandwich. The restaurant is offering live music starting at 8:00 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day, and the adjacent House of Blues features a concert with the Street Dogs starting at 7:00 p.m.
Springtime Roundup
Last week we shared that the popular Egg-stravaganza returns to the Disneyland Resort on March 27. While Disney has not made an official announcement, the entertainment calendar at Disneyland.com now shows that the Springtime Roundup is returning on March 20. This annual seasonal event at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree usually features a meet-and-greet with the Easter Bunny and other Disney rabbits, plus a craft area, a display of Easter egg art, periodic live entertainment, and snack offerings.
As of this writing, the entertainment calendar was posted only through April 18, and the Springtime Roundup is listed as daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from March 20 through April 18, with the exception of April 13, 14, and 15.

…World of Color is scheduled to return this Friday, March 13 after a lengthy refurbishment.
…The refurbishment calendar on Disneyland.com shows that Captain EO is scheduled to reopen Friday, April 10, but Michael Jackson fans shouldn't get their hopes up just yet.
Captain EO returned to the Magic Eye Theater inside Tomorrowland back in 2010, but closed “temporarily” last June to make way for a sneak peek of the Guardians of the Galaxy. When that preview closed, the return of Captain EO was delayed by the decision to host a sneak preview of Big Hero 6 in the Magic Eye Theater. That preview closed in January, with no sign of Captain EO and friends making a comeback.
It's likely that the April 10 reopening is for another movie preview. The Avengers: Age of Ultron has a May 1 release date, and the Tomorrowland movie opens May 22. Either would fit right into the Magic Eye Theater. After so many months, it's hard to imagine Disneyland will ever bring Captain EO back for a third time.
…Artist Dave Avanzino appears in an Artist Showcase at the Disneyana Shop inside Disneyland this Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to his custom letter and handmade sculptures, this showcase highlights some of his more affordable creations, including wooden letter plaques and deluxe prints of his original artwork.

…Just in time to order for the next Dapper Day, the Disney Store has released two dapper T-shirt designs based on Date Night at Disneyland and the Dapper Dans. The shirts are through March 13, and are currently 2 for $40 on the Disney Store website. A shirt based on the former Adventures Thru Inner Space attraction will be released on Monday, March 30.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2014–2015 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($132) |
A discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2014–2015 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through October 3, 2015. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $132 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. Tickets are blocked out March 30 through April 4, 2015 . Unlike past years, this ticket is not blocked out on the 4th of July. As far as we can tell, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. 2015 Southern California CityPASS ($334/$291) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego and a one-day admission to Universal Studios Hollywood. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by June 2, 2015. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $36/$28; and/or a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California for $59/$55. Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and now runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link). The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 21. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $139 for ages 3 and up, a $10 jump from the 2014 offer. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper for an additional $39, which allows entry to both parks on both days, a savings of up to $39 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. For 2015, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($169) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($208) in the promotion. If you can use all three admissions and don't care about park hopping, the 3-day, 1-park per day ticket is the best deal, and represents a savings of up to $57 per person.
You can purchase tickets either online at Disneyland.com and print them at home, or at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If you purchase at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May 21 to use the second (or third) admission. All four versions of this discounted ticket are blocked out March 20 through April 4, and expire May 21. While Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, MousePlanet readers who have purchased similar tickets from off-property retailers during past resident discount promotions consistently reported that they were not required to provide proof of residency at the time of purchase. However, be aware that Disneyland Resort Main Gate cast members can—and may—require proof of residency when you first use the tickets. Whether such residency checks occur is an oft-debated topic on our MousePad discussion boards, but it is your responsibility to know the official policy, regardless of what the park's actual practice may be.
