[Editor's Note: The waiting ends this week, as Disneyland officially launches its 60th anniversary celebration. There is so much information related to this week's activities—and especially the 24-hour party on Friday—so dive right in to prepare yourself for one incredibly busy Disney day. If you plan to participate in the 60th anniversary events, be sure to follow MousePlanet on Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram to get real-time updates.]
If you don't plan to join the festivities in person, jump ahead to see photos of the reopened and rethemed Grizzly Peak Airfield area.
All about May 22
Make no mistake—May 22 will be all about the die-hard Disneyland fan, and visitors should be prepared to face New Year's Eve-level crowding as the sun sets. Disney has really stepped up its communication about this year's 24-hour party, and there is quite a bit to digest. We'll hit the must-know facts here, with links for you to get even more information.
With a level of detail Disney might envy, MousePlanet reader corona has maintained a comprehensive list of operating hours, attraction closures, entertainment schedules, food offerings, and restaurant hours for the 24-hour event. Check out his final version, and consider bookmarking or printing the schedule so you know exactly what your options are when you're craving a steamed chicken and vegetable dumpling bowl at 1:00 a.m., wondering if Splash Mountain is still running, or want to know where you can find the Dapper Dans.

Admission and opening hours
The weather will play a major factor in the crowding early Friday morning, with a 20 percent chance of rain between 3 and 8 a.m. The rain is forecast to clear out by 9 a.m., which will bring out the wait-and-see crowd.
The entire 24-hour party is considered to take place on the May 22 operating day, so you only need valid admission for that one day to attend the entire event. Ticket booths will open at 2:00 a.m. for those who need to purchase admission.
Blocked out on May 22 | SoCal and SoCal Select Annual Passports; these are not valid for the event. These passholders must purchase a one-day ticket to attend. |

For those who want to camp out Thursday night to be first in the park Friday morning, the Disney Parks Blog posted an extremely detailed parking and admission plan. The key points:
- The lines will form outside back check on both the Harbor Boulevard and Downtown Disney sides of the Esplanade.
- The Pumbaa parking lot (across Harbor, near Garden Walk) will open at 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. This lot does not offer shuttle service, so plan accordingly.
- You can bring “games, blankets, chairs, tents and sleeping bags,” but you must return those items to your car or hotel room and be back in line by 2 a.m.
- All visitors will pass through bag check when the Esplanade opens at 2 a.m., and receive a “commemorative keepsake” as they enter.
- It sounds like visitors will be divided into two lines at this point, depending on which park they plan to start the day at.
- Visitors will be allowed into Disneyland starting at 4:00 a.m. so they can wait to watch the “opening celebration moment” at 6:00 a.m.. The Main Street Lockers will open at this time. Some Main Street, U.S.A. food and merchandise locations will open before 6:00 a.m.
- Visitors will be allowed into Disney California Adventure starting at 5:30 a.m. The Buena Vista Street lockers will open at this time.

Entertainment premieres and admission restrictions
Cast members tell us that the question is not whether Disneyland will reach capacity on Friday, but simply a matter of when. With both the new parade and new fireworks debuting Friday night, you should expect the parks to be packed. The debut of the new “Paint the Night” parade is at 8:50 p.m. on Friday, followed by the premiere of the Disneyland Forever fireworks at 9:30 p.m.; Disneyland will quite likely reach capacity before the parade.
Disneyland goes through several phases of entry restrictions when the parks approach capacity. In the first phases, the resort will restrict ticket sales, but allow those who already have valid admission in hand—including annual passholders—to enter the park. In later phases, the resort may only allow reentry into the affected park, and divert first admission (those entering for the first time that day) to the other park. But when a park reaches capacity, park managers will close the gates, at which point nobody can enter until crowding eases.
As with any busy day, we suggest that you arrive as early as you can, and prepare to stay in the park you want to spend the evening in. Beware that you risk not being readmitted into the park later in the evening should you leave Disneyland to visit DCA, eat in Downtown Disney, or return to your hotel for a nap.
If you cannot spend the whole day at Disneyland but plan to arrive later to see the new nighttime shows, be sure to check social media sites for updates. MousePlanet will report on crowding and admission restrictions throughout the day, so follow along on Twitter and Facebook.
Even if Disneyland reaches capacity, we expect Disney California Adventure to remain open. The debut of World of Color – Celebrate takes place at 9:00 p.m, so those who cannot get into Disneyland to see the new parade can still attend an entertainment premiere that evening.
Should Disneyland close the gates, it may just be until after the fireworks are over, with visitors allowed to enter the park again once enough people leave. There is a second performance scheduled for 1:00 a.m. of “Paint the Night.” Keep an eye on social media to check the current status.
Table service dining
At press time, there is almost no availability for table service dining inside the theme parks during the 24-hour party. All of the restaurants offering special 24-hour party menus are booked solid, and all of the Fantasmic! dinner packages are sold out.

For breakfast, Ariel's Grotto has a few spots open in the 9:00 a.m. hour, but all other restaurants are booked. The same holds true at lunch, with a handful of tables available at Ariel's Grotto.
If you are willing to skip the new parade and fireworks, you can have dinner at 9:20 p.m. at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue.
If you have no't already made reservations, plan to eat at one of the quick service restaurants, where special menu items abound.

Casual dining/snacks
The Disney Parks Blog posted a detailed list of the special food offerings available for the 24-hour party. If you want to try them all, we recommend printing or bookmarking the list and bringing it with you.

While the earliest version of the post detailed specific times during which the special foods would be offered, an update removed that schedule, and it appears most of the items will be available throughout the event. While this is good news for those who didn't want to plan meals around the availability of certain items, this means you can expect locations to sell out of the 24-hour-party specials earlier in the day.
The fried chicken and waffles dish at the Plaza Inn has been a popular choice during past 24-hour parties, and lines can get very long. This is a good day to plan to eat during off-peak hours (lunch before 11 a.m. or after 2:00 p.m.; dinner before 5:00 p.m. or during the parade and fireworks).
Not included in that list is a special cupcake created for the 24-hour celebration. This will be offered at the Candy Palace inside Disneyland; at Trolley Treats inside Disney California Adventure; at at Marceline's Confectionery in Downtown Disney.
Shopping
This is the one part of the celebration that you can enjoy early. Michelle Harker posted a shopper's guide for the 60th anniversary on the Disney Parks Blog, plus a preview of the merchandise created just for the 24-hour event.

Grizzly Peak Airfield photo tour
Grizzly Peak Airfield opened last week, making Condor Flats a part of DCA history. The Grizzly Peak area is now divided into two operating areas: the Grizzly Peak Airfield replacing Condor Flats, and the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area encompassing the Grizzly River Run and the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area.
If you did not know they were originally built as two lands, you might not notice the boundary between the Airfield and the Recreation Area. The Airfield has the feel of the town you would pass through on your way to the national park, but the transition is seamless.
Humphrey's Service and Supplies replaces Fly 'n' Buy, but a surprising amount of the former store's fixtures were reused in the new shop. The Coca-Cola stand previously located outside Soarin' has been moved to the side of Humprey's, with a Rambler station wagon parked nearby. The large bathroom complex has been repainted, with John Muir quotes stenciled on the exterior walls.
The entrance to Soarin' Over California was redesigned, with new planters filling what had been a large expanse of tarmac. New shade structures add to the comfort provided by newly planted trees. The nearby restaurant has received some of its new tables and chairs, although the changeover is not yet complete.

Disneyland strengthens selfie-stick policy
Disneyland posted signs prohibiting the use of so-called “selfie sticks” outside Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain last week. There were rumors back in April that Disney had banned the handheld monopods from the theme parks, but a Disney spokeswoman told the Orlando Sentinel at the time that the devices were allowed inside the theme parks, but had to be stowed on rides or moving vehicles.
New signs outside two Disneyland rides specifically ban the use of selfie sticks, though the policy applies to all rides and moving vehicles. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
Still, Disney does not directly address the issue on the theme park websites or policy signs, and a quick online search yields hundreds of photos and videos of and by people using the devices on attractions. One prolific YouTube contributor readily admits that he almost lost his selfie stick while riding California Screamin', yet went back and filmed again.
These new signs seem to be Disney's first effort to explicitly communicate the policy inside the theme parks, and are a long-overdue addition in this writer's opinion. While the signs are only in place at these two attractions, the policy applies to all rides and moving vehicles, including the parking lot trams, and yes, even “it's a small world.” No word on whether Disney plans to post the warning in a more prominent location like the main entrance, or add the policy to the information already printed in the park maps.
This and that…

…Disneyland Resort president Michael Colglazier will preside over a brief “Finishing Touches” ceremony in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. The ceremony is open to members of the media and invited guests, but park visitors will likely be able to view it from the sidelines.

- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 15-16. Expect unusually large attendance levels October 16–20 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- 2015 Avengers Half Marathon Weekend – November 12–15. Most events are sold out, but space remains in the half marathon race. Details on the runDisney website.
2016
- 2016 Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend – January 14–17. Registration opens June 16.
- 2016 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 5–8. Registration opens August 11.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. “Utah Escapes to Anaheim”) – October 20–21.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of February 2015.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2014–2015 Disney Military Promotional 3–Day Park Hopper Ticket ($132) |
A discounted price offered to Eligible Service Members or their spouses. The 2014–2015 U.S. Armed Forces discount is valid through October 3, 2015. Under this program, active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $132 each. For the purpose of this offer, Disney defines “Eligible Service Members” as active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid military identification will be required for purchase. This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base or other at participating U.S. military sales outlets. The tickets are not available for sale at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Disney has also clarified that the “Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission,” which means you can not purchase these tickets and give them to someone who will be visiting without you present. Tickets are blocked out March 30 through April 4, 2015 . Unlike past years, this ticket is not blocked out on the 4th of July. As far as we can tell, there is no “fuse” on this ticket, so you may have more than the standard 13 days from first use to use the remaining two admissions, but we highly recommend you contact your base MWR/ITT office for more details before making travel plans. Please note that this ticket is not a “bonus” ticket, and so does not include an early admission day. For complete information regarding Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets and discounted resort rates, military personnel may visit the Disneyland Resort website, or participating U.S. military base ticket offices. |

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and now runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. Discounts for Southern California residents | Spring 2015 ticket discount for Southern California residents
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks multiple days before May 21 for as little as $139 using a new discounted ticket that went on sale last week. There are four different tickets available, offering two or three days of admission, with or without park-hopping privileges. The 2-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 21. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $139 for ages 3 and up, a $10 jump from the 2014 offer. You can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper for an additional $39, which allows entry to both parks on both days, a savings of up to $39 compared to the box office price of a two-day park-hopper ticket. For 2015, there is also a 3-Day 1-Park per Day option ($169) and a 3-Day Park Hopper ticket ($208) in the promotion. If you can use all three admissions and don't care about park hopping, the 3-day, 1-park per day ticket is the best deal, and represents a savings of up to $57 per person.
You can purchase tickets either online at Disneyland.com and print them at home, or at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If you purchase at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May 21 to use the second (or third) admission. All four versions of this discounted ticket are blocked out March 20 through April 4, and expire May 21. While Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, MousePlanet readers who have purchased similar tickets from off-property retailers during past resident discount promotions consistently reported that they were not required to provide proof of residency at the time of purchase. However, be aware that Disneyland Resort Main Gate cast members can—and may—require proof of residency when you first use the tickets. Whether such residency checks occur is an oft-debated topic on our MousePad discussion boards, but it is your responsibility to know the official policy, regardless of what the park's actual practice may be. Now for the official fine print:

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct. Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
