Celebrating 10 Years of MouseAdventure | This week’s word on World | 2010 Summer Fun Pass | Toy Story Midway Mania updated | Join us for MousePlanet’s 10th Anniversary Celebration | This and That
Celebrating 10 Years of MouseAdventure
Ten years ago, about 100 people gathered at Disneyland for the very first MouseAdventure event. Most had no idea what they were getting themselves into, but they had a great time and demanded more. A decade later, MouseAdventure has become MousePlanet’s signature community event, and nearly 800 people joined us this weekend for the first of two events celebrating Ten Years of MouseAdventure.
Once upon a time… all of the players fit in front of the Castle. 1999 MousePlanet file photo.
We wanted to celebrate MouseAdventure’s anniversary with the most challenging game ever, and we think teams will agree that we succeeded. The 97 players who registered for our two-day Advanced Division spent a whirlwind 20 hours solving nearly 40 quests, tasks and challenges. The teams that participated in our Basic Division had a slightly more manageable set of quests to complete in a less insane six hours. After the game ended, teams returned to the Paradise Pier Hotel to swap stories and socialize with other exhausted players until the scores were announced.
10 years later, this is just a fraction of the teams—there were another 650 people the next day! Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix
We want to congratulate the winners, and once again thank everyone—players, crew and volunteers—for making this such an amazing event. We also want to thank those players who donated new and gently used DVDs for our MouseAdventure charity drive. We will be sending the collected DVDs collected to Children’s Hospital Orange County and Orangewood Children’s Home.

We had so much fun this weekend that we’re going to do it all over again in just two weeks. That’s right—the Day at the Park Division of our MouseAdventure Anniversary game is happening on Sunday, June 6 at the Disneyland Resort. Registration is still open, and there’s plenty of room for new teams to come see what MouseAdventure is all about. For more information about the Day at the Park event and to register, visit MouseAdventure.com.
This team has competed in every MouseAdventure event for the past decade, but they’ve never seen a quest like the Pinocchio challenge. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
We plan to post a full recap from this weekend’s event after the Day at the Park event, but wanted to present the winners for those teams who missed the post-event award ceremony.

This week’s word on World
Disney still hasn’t made any significant announcements about World of Color, but we’ve learned that the nightly performances will be held at 9pm and 10:15 p.m., with the last show starting 15 minutes after Disney’s California Adventure closes for the evening. We’ve also heard that Disney might offer a third encore show on some evenings, but we have no additional details about how these extra shows. To the best of our knowledge, there are no Annual Passholders previews for the new show, but last Monday, Los Angeles-area radio stations KOST 103.5 FM and MY FM 104.3 began a joint promotion offering tickets to a private preview of the show for Tuesday, June 8. Tickets are awarded to listeners who call in at specified times, but you can also enter online (details are provided at the stations’ Web sites).
Verizon Wireless has also launched its own contest, offering tickets to a private viewing party on September 10. This contest is open only to Verizon customers “in good standing” who have or create a My Verizon account; full rules and entry forms are on the promotion site. The Verizon states that its event is being co-hosted with Coca-Cola, but we can’t find any mention of a Coke contest—let us know if you see any info about this.
2010 Summer Fun Pass
In addition to details about its World of Color contest, radio station KOST posted a mention last Wednesday of an as-yet-unannounced 3-day “Summer Fun Pass at the Disneyland Resort at its site for Southern California residents. The 2010 3-Day Summer Fun Pass is $108, $9 more expensive than the 2009 version, and offers Southern California residents (ZIP Codes 90000–93599) and Northern Baja California residents (ZIP Codes 21000–22999) three one-day admissions to either Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure within a 45-day period. The ticket is the same price for adults and children. Unlike the 2009 offer, this base ticket is not a park hopper, and allows admission to only one park per day. For an additional $21 per person, you can upgrade the Summer Fun Pass to a Summer Fun PLUS Pass, a 3-day Park Hopper ticket that allows admission to both parks each day.
Both tickets have a 45-day “fuse,” (instead of the usual 13- or 30-day limit), which while it gives you more time to plan your return visits, also comes more block out dates than last year: July 2-4 and August 22-23. The first use of the pass must be between June 11 and August 29, 2010. You can purchase a Summer Pass Disneyland.com, the Disneyland Resort box office, Disney Stores, Disneyland Resort Hotels, and various Southern California supermarkets and retail chains, including Vons, Albertsons, Ralphs, Stater Bros., Food 4 Less, Gelson’s, and Deardens.
Disney states that resident ID is required, but MousePlanet readers who purchased these tickets from off-property retailers last year consistently reported that they were not required to provide proof of residency at the time of purchase. However, be aware that Disneyland Resort Main Gate cast members can—and may—require proof of residency when you first use the tickets. Whether this happens to you is an oft-debated topic on our MousePad discussion boards, but we feel it would be irresponsible for us to not at least make you aware of the official policy, regardless of what the park’s actual practice may be.
Toy Story Midway Mania updated
When we reported earlier this month that both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World versions of Toy Story Midway Mania were to be updated with a new game featuring characters from the upcoming Toy Story 3 film, we said “Disney has not given an exact debut date for the updated attraction; a cast member speculates that Disney might not publicize it at all, and just open the attraction one morning with the new game in place as a way to spark viral publicity.” That’s exactly what happened this weekend, when visitors to Disney’s Hollywood Studios park discovered that Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop game had been replaced with a new game, called “Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts.” West coast Disney fans first heard about the changes from Twitter user and MousePlanet reader @kennythepirate, but then had to wait until Disney’s California Adventure opened at 10am to learn if the update was bi-coastal. In other changes, toy unicorn Buttercup joined Hamm in the opening Hamm & Eggs game, five Toy Story 3 characters joined Woody and Jessie in the prize scene, a new “best score in car” feature was added to the final scoreboard, and new attraction posters hang in the queue.
Join us for MousePlanet’s 10th Anniversary Celebration
We couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of MousePlanet and the 55th Anniversary of Disneyland than with Charles Phoenix’s Retro Disneyland Slide Show. Join us at the Crown Plaza Anaheim Resort Hotel on Saturday, July 17 for a morning you’ll never forget as Charles Phoenix presents a live comedy performance celebrating of the Magic Kingdom in the 1950s and 1960s… in color! Tickets are just $25 per person, and registration opens later this week – check back for details.
Charles shows ands tells the back story of long-gone attractions including the Phantom Boats, Flying Saucers, Indian Village, Carousel of Progress, and other favorites. Also experience the early days of Main Street USA, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Frontierland. “Disneyphiles will enjoy seeing some classic images of the park gone by, including the original Tomorrowland when it was promoted as ‘The World of 1987.’ We’ll also check out the all-new Tomorrowland when it was launched in 1967,” says Phoenix who has spent years collecting and researching these vintage images and history of the park. “I’ll also share the flaming back story of the monorail; take you inside the ultra space-age, all plastic House of the Future; and fly you to the moon in the legendary TWA Rocket.”
The Crown Plaza Anaheim Resort Hotel is the headquarters hotel for the NFFC–Disneyana Fan Club DisneyanaMania Convention, is conveniently located just a few miles south of the Disneyland Resort, and offers free parking. The 90-minute performance begins at 10, leaving you plenty of time to spend the afternoon in the park celebrating Disneyland’s 55th Anniversary.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts.
If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line (link).

Three Day Park Hopper – Regularly $204/$174 |
3-Day Summer Fun Pass ($108) and 3-Day Summer Fun PLUS Pass ($129) – The 2010 3-Day Summer Fun Pass is $108, $9 more expensive than the 2009 version, and offers Southern California residents (ZIP Codes 90000–93599) and Northern Baja California residents (ZIP Codes 21000–22999) three one-day admissions to either Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure within a 45 day period. Both tickets have a 45-day “fuse,” (instead of the usual 13- or 30-day limit), giving you more time to plan your return visits, but have more block out dates than last year: July 2-4 and August 22-23. The first use of the pass must be between June 11 and August 29, 2010. The Summer Pass can be purchased at www.disneyland.com, the Disneyland Resort box office, Disney Stores, Disneyland Resort Hotels, and a variety of southern California supermarkets and retail chains, including Vons, Albertsons, Ralphs, Stater Bros., Food 4 Less, Gelson’s and Deardens. Disney states that “resident ID is required,” but MousePlanet readers who purchased these tickets from off-property retailers last year consistently reported that they were not required to provide proof of residency at the time of purchase. However, be aware that Disneyland Resort Main Gate cast members can – and may – require proof of residency when you first use the tickets. Whether this will happen to you is an oft-debated topic on our MousePad discussion boards, but we feel it would be irresponsible for us to not at least make our readers aware of the “official” policy, regardless of what the park’s actual practice may be. Advance Purchase 3-day Park Hopper Bonus Ticket ($184/$154) – A discounted price for advance purchase through the Internet or select dealers. Available at the Disneyland Web site (link) where shipping is included if you order more than 10 days prior to your travel date. Also available from AAA offices in Northern California, Nevada, and Utah (not currently listed at the AAA Web site, you may need to call your local office). Disney Stores (California), Safeway supermarkets (California and Arizona), and certain travel agents may also sell these tickets. It is best to call and confirm before visiting a location, however. “Bonus Tickets” include one early admission day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday). If purchased from AAA, the tickets come with free parking at the Mickey & Friends parking garage (an $11/day value) AOCVCB 3-Day Bonus Ticket ($179/$149) – The discount (from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau) is $5 off the advance purchase price for both adults and children. You can now print these tickets at home, though a $1 per-ticket convenience fee applies. If the $4 per ticket net savings isn’t enough of an incentive to pre-purchase your tickets, think of all the time you’ll save by not having to stand in line at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. Tickets include one early admission day (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday) (link). These tickets are now valid through January 3, 2011. |
|
Four Day Park Hopper – Regularly $229/$199 |
Costco 4-Day Park Hopper Ticket ($159.95) – A special offer for Costco members who are also residents of Southern California (link). Unlike some recent offers, this ticket has no “fuse” – you can use the first admission today, and have until August 23, 2010 to use the remaining admission days before the ticket expires. The ticket has no further blockout days in 2010, and can be upgraded to any Annual Passport except the SoCal Select pass. The Costco Web site states in three different places—including a bold, bright red headline—that visitors “Must reside within ZIP codes 90000-93599” and that “Proof of residency required upon redemption.” The ticket you purchase at Costco is a valid admission ticket, and you can take it directly to a main entrance gate to use it. We’ve been told that, to prevent the unauthorized “transfer” of tickets between visitors (ie, you use the first two days of the ticket and give it to a friend to use the second two days), visitors will be required to write their name on the ticket when it is first used for admission, and to show ID with that same name upon subsequent admissions. Obviously minor children will be exempt from the ID requirement, but will also be required to write their name on the ticket when it is first used. Adults should plan to have ID with them to use the ticket. Advance Purchase 4-Day Park Hopper Bonus tickets ($199/$169) – A discounted price for advance purchase through the Internet or select dealers. Available at the Disneyland Web site (link) where shipping is included if you order more than 10 days prior to your travel date. Additionally, after signing up, your membership card will be mailed to you and be accompanied by a $10 award good for your next visit to a Rainforest Cafe. So if you know you will be eating there while at Disneyland and have a Rainforest Cafe local to you, it may make sense to prejoin the Safari Club so that you can use the award during your trip. See the Rainforest Cafe Web site for details (link).
ESPNZone MVP Club – Membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25% increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney’s information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
