Disneyland Resort Update for April 9, 2024
News and Views
Author’s Note
As you likely noticed when you checked for this article yesterday, there have been some big changes at MousePlanet. Last week, in what may have been the worst April Fool’s ever, we suddenly found ourselves having to make a completely unplanned transition of MousePlanet onto a new platform. This is something we’ve been working towards behind the scenes, but we weren’t prepared to do it just yet, or with no warning.
Our CTO Tony Phoenix doesn’t get a lot of attention for his work behind the scenes all these years, but I can’t stress enough the effort he put in to get us through this situation relatively unscathed. He was able to preserve nearly all of the 25 years of articles and photos from the site, and as of this writing almost every article has been restored and categorized. This is still a work in progress, and Tony and Alan Dalinka are still working through a punch list of things which need to be fixed, replaced or enhanced, but we’re mostly back up and running.
Thank you for your patience during this transition, and please do let us know if you happen to see something which is totally broken so we can take a look at it.
Season of the Droids
Disneyland's Season of the Force promotion began last week, and it seems all anyone wants to talk about are the droids. On Friday the BDX droids which Walt Disney Imagineering play-tested at the park last fall made their return to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The droid duo are accompanied by a "droid trainer," a character who helps facilitate interactions between the droids and curious visitors to Batuu.
BDX droids can be spotted in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during Season of the Force. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
At the prompting of their trainer, the free-range droids walk, "scan" the audience to learn about humans, stop to look at other droids in the land, and even dance a little. For those who want a peek behind the curtain, look for costumed droid handlers who follow at a discreet distance with their remote control pads.
There is no published schedule for when the droids may appear, with the Disneyland app showing only a range of times when you might find them near the garage in Galaxy’s Edge.
Sabine Wren made her first appearance on Batuu last week to kick off Season of the Force. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
Another new character making appearances during Season of the Force is Sabine Wren, who can be spotted wandering the Black Spire Marketplace. The Mandalorian warrior appears in addition to Ahsoka Tano, so Mandalorian fans have even more reason to visit the land.
Ahsoka Tano also appears in Star Tours โ The Adventures Continue, along with Cassian Andor and The Mandalorian and Grogu. As expected, Grogu absolutely steals the show, and the long wait for the ride throughout the weekend shows just how much fans were looking forward to the changes.
Unfortunately the premiere of "Fire of the Rising Moons" was thwarted by wind on Friday, but in a surprise announcement Disney confirmed that the show is a permanent addition to Disneyland, and will go on even after Season of the Force ends in June. This is the last week to catch the version of the show which pairs with the "Wondrous Journeys" soundtrack. On April 15, a new version paired with "Mickey’s Mix Magic" will begin, to be replaced with a soundtrack paired to the "Together Forever" fireworks with Pixar Fest begins April 26.
The Season of the Force Seek and Find activity sends visitors through Batuu looking for hidden canisters. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.
We got a look at the new Seek and Find activity, and if you’re a scavenger hunt fan you will probably enjoy this ย โย but keep your expectations low. First you pick up a free map at the Star Trader in Tomorrowland, then search around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for a series of canisters with Aurebesh markings. When you’re done, return to Tomorrowland and find the signs to help you decode the markings and reveal the secret message. Once complete, you return to Star Trader to get your commemorative keepsake. I’ve heard three main complaints about this activity – it’s a ton of walking between the lands; some of the canisters are hard to find; and the "keepsake" is underwhelming. All I can say is it’s FREE, and if you don’t care about the keepsake, just have fun seeking out the canisters.
Season of the Force runs through June 2, 2024.
Dates and details for Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite
Tickets go on sale today for two Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite events in June. These after-hours private parties are scheduled for June 18 and 20, and take place at Disneyland park.
Pride Nite will feature the Pride Nite Fireworks โย Welcome!, a Pride Nite Cavalcadeย featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and friends, and character appearances throughout the park. There will be several opportunities to dance, with a family-friendly Ohana Dance Party with characters in Tomorrowland, country line dancing at the Golden Horseshoe, and a Pride Nite Dance Club around the Rivers of America. Of course, there will be themed food, beverage and merchandise offerings.
The events run from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., but event guests can enter Disneyland as early as 6:00 p.m. to enjoy the park before it closes to day guests. Arriving early is the best way to ensure you get to experience rides and areas that will close with the park.
Tickets are $159 for either date. Magic Key holders can purchase a limited number of tickets during a pre-sale opportunity starting Tuesday, April 9 (no earlier than 9:00 a.m. Pacific). General admission tickets go on sale no earlier than 9:00 a.m. Pacific on Thursday, April 11. Purchase tickets via the event website.
In 2019, Disneyland Paris became the first Disney resort to host its own Gay Day event, the Magical Pride Party, now known as Disneyland Paris Pride. Disneyland followed with Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite in 2023.
D23 warns about ticket fraud
We shared last week how quickly tickets for D23: The Ultimate Fan Experience sold out, and some people felt that the situation was made worse by members who purchased tickets with the intent to resell them. D23 members were allowed to purchase up to 8 of each ticket type, ideally to let families or groups of friends sit together. This also created plenty of room for ticket scalpers, who are now offering tickets on resale sites for as much as six times their purchase price.
In response, D23 has issued a warning via its event website.
NOTE: Tickets purchased from any other sources may not be valid. D23 is not able to honor, replace or refund invalid tickets. D23 will provide an official opportunity to transfer tickets to other guests prior to the Event, however the recipient email must be associated with a valid D23 Member account to claim the transferred ticket.
When the ticket transfer process opens, D23 will be the only ticket service that is able to authenticate that a D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event ticket is valid. Other resellers may offer money-back guarantees, but they are unable to guarantee entry to the Event as they are not able to validate that a ticket or seat location is authentic.
We encourage guests to report fraudulent ticket sales to the point of purchase and consumer protection agencies.
Downtown Disney changes
It looks like another round of musical chairs is underway in Downtown Disney. The Disney Dress Shop has temporarily relocated to the WonderGround Gallery space, while the WonderGround Gallery has temporarily relocated to a section of the adjacent Disney Home store
Tortilla Jo’s closed on Sunday, a week later than originally announced. The quick service Taqueria at Tortilla Jo’s will remain open through April 13.
We’ve shared that the current Earl of Sandwich location in Downtown Disney will be torn down and replaced with a Porto’s Bakery. A new two-story Earl of Sandwich is planned for Downtown Disney, but in the interim the Earl will move to a pop-up location on the west end of the district, near the former ESPN Zone building. We don’t know when Earl will make their move, but their new location (a large trailer) is in place in Downtown Disney.
Let's keep it social
It looks like the Walt Disney Company has resumed posting to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, at least for some of its official accounts. For others, including the official @Disneyland and @WaltDisneyWorld accounts, it appears Instagram and Facebook are still the preferred social media platforms. If you're used to getting your official Disney news from X, you'll want to check other channels as well.
Meet-and-greet times for the BDX Droids and Sabine Wren are posted on the @Disneyland app. @Jdlazo These are the two places we saw the droids come on stage Friday. pic.twitter.com/6arVIu0tiW

- Holidays at the Disneyland Resort – Begins November 15.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2023.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident Ticket Offer
The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $225, or up to any three days between January 2 and June 2, 2024 for $275.
You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day. For an additional $70, you can upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day.
You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $90 for the three days when purchased in advance. Remember that you can also upgrade to Disney Genie+ after you enter the theme park (subject to availability) and pay the then-current daily fee. We recommend going with the latter option for your first experience with Disney Genie+, just to make sure the service provides a value for you. If you love it, you can always add the Genie+ to your remaining days.
Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 2 and wait until June 2 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 13, 2024.
This offer can only be purchased at a participating US military base ticket office.
2024 Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 2 through December 13, 2024. You can book now through December 10, 2024, and travel must be completed by December 14, 2024.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (833) 618-0536 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category. Concierge rooms, Signature or Premium suites, or 2-or 3-Bedroom Villas are excluded from the offer, and this offer can not be combined with any other discount.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member, provided the spouse stays in one of the rooms booked.
