Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge reservations open May 2
Just as soon as Disney first revealed the opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at the Disneyland Resort, the company immediately added a disclaimer to all marketing related to the new land:
Reservations required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge between May 31 and June 23, 2019. Access to Disneyland Park, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and its experiences may be restricted or unavailable depending on guest demand and other factors.
If you know only one thing about the new 14-acre themed land, it seems Disney wanted to make sure it was that you wouldn't be seeing it during its opening month without an advance reservation.
Visitors who had booked a Disneyland Resort Hotel during the opening month were assured that they would receive a “designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay” (subject to availability, of course). Last week, Disney began contacting guests with hotels reservations to provide details of their designated reservation to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Unfortunately, a computer glitch caused many of these Galaxy's Edge reservations to be made for the same day the guests were scheduled to check in to the hotel, and in many cases hours before they would even arrive at the resort. Disney quickly acknowledged the error, and the next day sent revised invitations. According to these reservations, Disneyland Resort Hotel guests can spend up to four hours at the Black Spire Outpost, and must leave by the end of their assigned window. If the guest leaves the area earlier, they will not be permitted to reenter.
So hotel guests knew how they were getting in to ride the Millennium Falcon, but there was still information about how the rest of the galaxy could get one of the coveted boarding passes to Batuu. Disney now says full details will be announced at 8:00 a.m. Pacific on Thursday, May 2, and that reservations will open at 10:00 a.m. Pacific that same day.
In order to make a reservation to visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, visitors must have a Disney account. If you do not yet have one, be sure to sign up as soon as possible so you don't have to scramble to register Thursday morning.

Disney Parks to implement new rules this week
New policies regarding smoking, stroller sizes, and ice go into effect at both the Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida this week. It's been nearly a month since the new policies were first announced, so here's a refresher of what will change come Wednesday morning:
New maximum stroller size
Disney's new policy restricts stroller sizes to no larger than 31″ wide by 54″ long, a decrease of 5 inches in width from current guidelines. The new rules also ban the use of accessories that are attached to strollers or electronic conveyance vehicles (ECVs), such as removable glider boards or trailers. The new policy affirms an existing ban on all wagons inside the theme parks, including traditional pull wagons like the Radio Flyer and Step2, as well as collapsible stroller wagons like the popular Keenz 7S and Veer Cruiser.
At the Disneyland Resort, the new policies will be enforced at the guest screening and security tents. Disney has placed large decals on the ground at these screening checkpoints so visitors can check to make sure their stroller fits. Visitors arriving at the Mickey and Friends parking structure or Downtown Disney screening tents with an oversized stroller, prohibited accessory item, or stroller wagon will be asked to return the item to their vehicle or hotel room, just as with guests who arrive carrying selfie sticks or other prohibited items.

Disney is currently expanding the Toy Story parking lot and constructing a guest screening and security checkpoint there. Until that checkpoint opens, visitors who park in the Toy Story lot and those who come in through the Harbor Boulevard pedestrian entrance from nearby hotels may get as far as the eastern screening checkpoint before learning that their stroller or wagon is not permitted in the parks. Disney will offer to check oversized strollers and stroller wagons so that visitors are not forced to go back to their vehicles or hotel rooms to return their prohibited items.
Disneyland will also introduce a new tandem double stroller by May 1, and make additional upgrades to its rental stroller fleet in the coming months. Disneyland has not previously offered a double stroller for rental, which meant that parents of multiple young children had to either rent multiple single strollers or bring their own double strollers from home.
No smoking inside theme parks
Joining attractions that already ban smoking, such as LEGOLAND, the San Diego Zoo, and Dodger Stadium, the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts will prohibit the smoking of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes in most public areas as of May 1, 2019.
The ban in California includes not only Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, but also the Main Entry Plaza between the two parks as well as the Downtown Disney shopping district. Disney will close the smoking areas currently designated inside the theme parks and remove trash cans from Downtown Disney.
After May 1, those who wish to light up must exit the park and go to a new designated smoking area beyond the security checkpoints on the Harbor Boulevard (east) side of the main entrance.
The smoking policy will not change at the three Disneyland Resort hotels, which are already designated as smoke-free. Each hotel property has a designated outdoor smoking area. And while California permits the sale and use of marijuana, it is still banned in all forms at the Disneyland resort.
Leave the ice at home
Disney is unusual in that it does allow visitors to bring small coolers into the theme parks, but the company does draw the line at filling your cooler with ice or dry ice. Disney recommends that you chill your items with reusable ice packs.
Disneyland Forever Fireworks to return to Disneyland for the summer

Disney announced last week that Mickey's Mix Magic will have its final performance on Thursday, June 6, and will be replaced the very next night by the Disneyland Forever fireworks show. Originally created for Disneyland 60th anniversary celebration, Disneyland Forever incorporates lasers and projectors, water screens and bubble blowers, snow makers, and inflatable dancers along with the fireworks.

Mickey's PhilharMagic debuts in DCA
Mickey's PhilharMagic opened last week at Disney California Adventure, in the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land. The theater opened in 2001 as Muppet*Vision 3D, since that attraction closed the venue has been used primarily for movie previews.

Mickey's PhilharMagic first opened in 2003 in Walt Disney World, and remains an extremely popular attraction in that park. It has since opened in Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, using the same extra-wide screen format as the Florida production.
At Disneyland Paris, where the show replaced an existing movie attraction, the film uses just one screen. This is the same version used for the Disney California Adventure production, though the existing screens on the sides of the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater are incorporated to replace some of that wide-format footage lost in the one-screen version.

The former Muppet*Vision 3D theater also provided the necessary space for Donald Duck to make his spectacular final appearance in the show, though the DCA version of Donald is not animated. Those who have seen other versions of the show will know to what I refer, and for others we'll allow it to be a surprise.
Black Tap opens in Downtown Disney
New York chain Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes has finally opened its first West Coast location in Downtown Disney Anaheim this weekend.

The restaurant was first announced in November 2017, and opened later than Disney originally projected. The Downtown Disney location features indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a take-away window where customers can order the restaurant's signature shakes.

The restaurant serves an upscale diner menu of burgers, fries and shakes with a twist—the burgers are also available as salads, the chicken wings are tossed in Korean BBQ sauce, and the milkshakes come topped and decorated with such over-the-top garnishes like Pop Tarts, cotton candy, pretzel rods, and even a slice of birthday cake.

Black Tap is located across from Catal Restaurant, on the ground level of the building formerly occupied by Build-a-Bear and Ridemakerz. Ballast Point Brewery opened earlier this year in the upper floor of the space.

…Ramone’s Serv-ice Station has opened in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. This new location offers another option for fans of the sweet slushes sold at locations like Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Confectionery and Trolley Treats in DCA. Ramone’s offers five slushie flavors, and a menu of mixed concoctions with candy additives. Start with Mellow Yellow, Lime, Blue Raspberry, Cherry or Grape slushie, and mix and match with toppings like dinosaur gummies, fruit-flavored popping pearls and Nerds candies. Drinks run $6 and up.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Everyone
Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.
Annual Passholders
Disneyland Resort merchandise – Disneyland has once again extended the additional 20% merchandise discount offered to Disney Signature Plus, Disney Signature, Disney Premier, and Premium annual passholders, this time through December 31, 2019. All other passholders receive a 10% merchandise discount. Visit the Annual Passholder discount page for specific details and exclusions.

Character meet-and-greet at Disney California Adventure – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free image download per visit.
Star Wars Imperial meet-and-greet at Disneyland – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity in the Star Tours Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. Offered daily from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Darth Vader is once again the character featured at this location.

Disneyland Resort Military Discounts
Ticket discounts
Through December 18, 2019, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $178 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $198 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 18, 2019, excluding the spring break blockout of April 14–22, 2019.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 18, 2019.
Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2019. Travel must be completed by December 20, 2019.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 21, 2019. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

Here are some other details you should know about regarding the offers:
- Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.
- Eligible Service Members are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
- The actual prices charged at the individual U.S. military base ticket offices for Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be less than the prices set forth above.
- Participating military sales outlets must require that Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) present valid military identification to purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets.
- Disney 3-Day or 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets for admission to the Disneyland Resort expire and may not be used after December 19, 2019. Valid military identification will be required for purchase and use.
- No more than six (6) Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and (if applicable) activated by any Eligible Service Member or spouse (regardless of the place of purchase and whether purchased by that person or that person’s spouse). In addition, one of the six (6) tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse.
- Each Disney Military Promotional Ticket must be used by the same person on any and all days.
- The Photopass Collection can be purchased only in person at Kingswell Camera Shop in Disney California Adventure, or at Main Street Photo Supply in Disneyland.

Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco.
Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – these package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
