Deluxe passholders face July 2019 blockout
In June, the Disneyland Resort introduced park-specific blockout calendars for the annual passport program. Under the new calendars, Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park have separate schedules of blockout dates, and there are days, weeks, and even months where some passholders can visit Disney California Adventure, but are blocked out from visiting Disneyland. This new blockout schedule applies to all Disneyland Resort annual passports purchased, renewed, or activated on or after June 2, 2018.
Disney's original announcement included blockout calendars only through June 2019, which meant we could only look at one month's worth of dates to see how the change impacts the different passport levels. Last week, Disney quietly released the blockout calendar for July 2019, and the anticipated opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland.
As we previously reported, for June 2018, Deluxe annual passports offed 25 days of admission to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. In June 2019, that number drops to just 13 days of park-hopper access to both parks. However, the new schedule has no June 2019 blockout dates for Disney California Adventure, meaning those passholders can visit on previously blocked-out Saturdays.
The situation is worse for Southern California and Southern California Select passports. A SoCal Select pass was valid at both parks on four days in June 2018, before the summer blockout season began. In 2019, the pass is valid at DCA on three days, and is not valid at Disneyland at all. The legacy Southern California passport, which is no longer available for new purchase, was valid at both parks on 19 days in June 2018. In June 2019, the pass is valid 20 days at DCA, but not valid at Disneyland at all.
For July 2019, the Southern California and Southern California Select passports are completely blocked at both parks. This is typical during the summer blockout season, and does not represent a change from 2018 or previous years.
For Deluxe passholders, at least for July 2019, their Disneyland Resort annual passport is really a Disney California Adventure pass. The pass is valid every day of the month at DCA, but is completely blocked out at Disneyland.
There are still no changes to the blockout dates for Signature or Signature Plus annual passports, which retain park hopper access on all days those passes are otherwise valid.
Disney usually publishes the blockout calendar on a rolling 12-month basis, so we won't see what August 2019 looks like until the end of this month. Still, it is reasonable to expect this pattern to continue for the first months that Galaxy's Edge is open, and passholders who just can't wait to visit Batuu will have to either buy a one-day ticket to Disneyland, or consider upgrading their pass to a Signature or Signature Plus pass.
Post-Pixar Fest entertainment
Entertainment schedules updated last week give us a look at the offerings at the Disneyland Resort in the post-Pixar Fest period after Labor Day.
At Disneyland, the Pixar Play Parade will remain on Main Street, U.S.A. for the time being, with one performance most Monday-Thursday afternoons, and two performances each Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fantasmic will move to a weekend-only schedule (dark Monday – Thursday), and Disney is taking advantage of one of those weekday breaks to perform maintenance on the Sailing Ship Columbia September 10-13.
On Friday, September 7, the “Remember… Dreams Come True” fireworks show returns to the skies above Disneyland. The show, originally created for Disneyland's 50th anniversary and brought back in 2017, has been on hiatus since Pixar Fest began in April.
Over at Disney California Adventure, the Paint the Night parade continues nightly performances for the foreseeable future.
Disneyland ticket discount for CHOC Walk participants
In addition to helping support an outstanding local charity, one of the benefits of participating in the CHOC Walk is the opportunity to purchase deeply discounted Disneyland tickets.
Walkers who meet the $85 fundraising minimum can purchase a 1-Day 1-Park Disneyland Resort ticket for $61 (reg. $97 to $117), or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $87 (reg. $147 to $167).
The tickets can only be purchased by registered walkers in person at the Disneyland Resort on the day of the walk. You must present your CHOC Walk in the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase the discounted tickets. Each walker with a valid wristband can purchase a maximum of 5 tickets, which represents a savings of up to $400.
The tickets are valid starting Sunday, August 26, 2018, and must be used by September 28, 2018. The tickets are not valid August 31– September 3; September 7–9; September 14–15; September 17; or September 21–22.
What to do when Mickey's Halloween Party is sold out
Two of the Mickey's Halloween Party events at Disneyland are now sold out for 2018, which means it's time to post our annual reminder of how to avoid ticket scams.
As of publication:
- Sold out – October 5; 12
- Available – September 19, 21, 24, 26, 28; October 2, 9, 16, 19, 23, 26, 29, 31.
In 2017, all event nights sold out by September 15th, so we recommend that you buy your tickets as soon as you can commit to a night. Tickets are available via Disneyland.com, at Disneyland ticket booths, or by phoning (714) 781-4636.
But what happens if you had your heart (and vacation plans) set on attending a specific, sold-out night? Before you turn to Craigslist, StubHub, or eBay (all of which bring with them the very high risk of being defrauded), here are official ways you may still be able to buy legitimate party tickets directly from Disney:
- Call Disneyland and order tickets by phone a limited number of tickets may be available by phone for events that are sold out online. Call (714) 781-4636 to purchase by phone. Expect to wait on hold for at least 10 minutes.
- Visit Disneyland and purchase tickets in person a limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are sold out online. However, if you tried to purchase tickets by phone and the night you wanted was sold out, they will not be available at the ticket booths.
- Disneyland Resort Hotels if you are a guest staying at one of the three Disney-owned hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel), check with your hotel desk the morning of the event to see if they have tickets available for purchase. Last year, MousePlanet Community Leader Angela told us that a small number of tickets were reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and were released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party. Officially these tickets are intended only for concierge-level guests, but we've heard conflicting stories about that, and it seems some guests in standard rooms have been allowed to buy the tickets as well. If you're already staying on property, it does not hurt to ask. Angela warns that these tickets sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
- Friends or family if friends/family already have tickets, they may be able to purchase additional tickets the day of the party. Again, a small number of tickets are reserved for same-day sales to help accommodate ticket holders who may have miscounted how many they need, or who had friends/family unexpectedly join them. As with the tickets reserved for hotel guests, these are very limited, and go on sale as soon as the ticket booths open in the morning. If at all possible, get there first thing in the morning to increase your chance of getting tickets. You must have the other event tickets with you the cast member needs to see them, and cannot just trust your word that “so-and-so already has tickets.”
Tickets available for Breakfast with Santa at Catal
If you're ready to start thinking about Christmas in July, we have the dates for the 2018 Breakfast with Santa events at Catal restaurant in Downtown Disney. The restaurant has expanded the offering to 9 days for the 2018 season, with breakfast served between 8 a.m. and Noon sessions on December 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23.
The event includes family-style breakfast at Catal restaurant in Downtown Disney, live entertainment, a photo opportunity with Santa Claus, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop teddy bear for each child.
Tickets are $80 per adult (a $5 jump from 2017), and $30 per child ages 3 to 10. Children 2 and under are free, but must be counted in the party size. Pre-sale registration is now open—book online via the Patina Group website.
Note: All sales are final. If you are unsure about which date you want to attend, you can still take advantage of the offer by calling (714) 333-9924 and making a placeholder reservation.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts & Promotions
Disneyland prices as of June 1, 2018.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel. |

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.
Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.
The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
