Downtown Disney revisited
Downtown Disney now has its own fast-fire pizza place, as Napolini reopened last week with a new concept. The counter-service restaurant now offers a full design-your-own-pizza counter, along with a case of prepared sandwiches, salads, and desserts. A cheese pizza starts at $6.95, and each additional topping is 50 cents. This is surprisingly affordable, especially when you note that the individual pizza sold right next door at sister restaurant Naples starts at $18, with additional toppings $2 to $6 apiece. With this new menu and park-friendly location, Napolini presents itself as a serious contender for a quick lunch outside of the theme parks.

If you're reading this Monday morning, the second Downtown Disney Starbucks is in the midst of its first morning rush since closing last June. The location has reopened on the west side of Downtown Disney, giving Disneyland Hotel guests a shorter walk for their morning brew. The location joins the Earl of Sandwich in reopening after Disney scuttled plans to demolish the west end of Downtown Disney to build a new luxury hotel. Disney had no announcements to make regarding the other vacant spaces, but we hope to learn soon what will become of the shuttered ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe, and AMC Theater spots.
This week may also bring the reopening of the Wetzel's Pretzels in Downtown Disney. The shop closed earlier this year due to construction for the Ballast Point brewery and Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes in an adjacent building. It appears that the Wetzel's space was taken down to studs and rebuilt during the process, and we spotted new interior decor and exterior signage last week. The refurbishment schedule shows that the location will reopen this Wednesday, but the project has been pushed so many times that it may be a bit longer still.
Keep moving, buddy
Disney California Adventure has just wrapped up a test of a “moving buddy” pass for Toy Story Midway Mania. With this pass, parties of just one, two, or three people (who would share a single row), could bypass the regular standby line, and wait instead in a shorter line near the loading area until needed to fill in an empty row. The Midway Mania ride vehicles each have four rows, with two players per row. Parties of five or six take up just three rows, leaving one row open. The moving buddy line allowed cast members to quickly find a group of two to take that available row and keep the ride moving along.

With the test concluded, area managers will evaluate feedback from cast members and visitors, and determine whether to implement the program again at a later time. One other ride at DCA, The Monsters, Inc. ride, also offers a Buddy Pass, where parties of one or two people fill in the last row of the three-row ride vehicles. A cast member at the ride entrance looks for these small parties and directs them to the exit of the ride.

Of course, eight Disneyland Resort rides offer single rider lines, where a solo visitor can fill in an available spot on a ride vehicle. The rides include Indiana Jones Adventure, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Space Mountain, and Splash Mountain at Disneyland, and Goofy's Sky School, Grizzly River Run, Incredicoaster, and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventures.
Mary Poppins on Main Street
The Disney Gallery inside the Main Street Opera House is currently home to a small new exhibit of artwork, props, and costume pieces from Disney's Mary Poppins Returns, which opens in theaters on December 19.

Gingerbread House Experience available to Disneyland Resort hotel guests
If you missed the chance to attend one of the popular Gingerbread House workshops at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen this year, here's another chance to put on your apron and design a house of your own. Guests staying at Disneyland Resort Hotel on select dates in December have the opportunity to attend a Grand Gingerbread House Experience at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel.
The hands-on workshop is taught by the pastry chefs who created the giant gingerbread house on display in the lobby of the Grand Californian Hotel. Each group receives a gingerbread house kit to assemble and decorate, and can snack on cookies and hot cocoa as they work. The cost is $55 per person, and additional gingerbread house kits are available for $30 each.
The workshops are held December 11, 20, 21, 22 and 23, and requires a reservation at one of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels to book a spot at the workshop. Call 714-635-2300 (Option 5) or visit the guest services desk at your hotel to reserve your spot.
This and That…
…Disney has announced the dates for the 2019 Lunar New Year and Disney California Food and Wine Festival. The Lunar New Year celebration at Disney California Adventure runs January 25 to February 17, and features the Three Little Pigs as guest performers in Mulan's Lunar New Year Procession. Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival runs March 1 to April 23, and Disney says the Sip and Savor pass will again be available to all visitors, not just to annual passholders.
…Fresh candy canes are available at Disneyland's Candy Palace this Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and at Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure this Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
…Tickets are still available for both of the Disneyland After Dark events that went on sale last week. Tickets for each event are $99 per person, and can be purchased through the event website or in person at Disneyland ticket booths. Parking is not included in the event fee.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Disneyland Resort Annual Passports
- Premier Annual Passport ($1,579) – valid at both Disneyland Resort and Florida's Walt Disney World Resort; includes parking and digital PhotoPass downloads. No blockout dates.

Annual Pass Monthly Payment Program
California residents can take advantage of the monthly payment plan when purchasing any but the Premier Annual Passport.
Check with your employer, school or credit union to see if any other discounts are available through them.
Southern California CityPASS
Southern California CityPASS ($353/$324) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2018. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket.
When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $44/$36. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website.
You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:
- Add a second day at LEGOLAND for $25. Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Add LEGOLAND Water Park for $30 for ages 3+ ($5 for ages 2 and under). Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Upgrade your Disneyland ticket to another ticket or annual passport of equal or greater value. For the current Southern California CityPASS, a credit of $330 for ages 10+ ($314 for ages 3-9) will be applied toward another ticket of equal or greater value. Purchase the upgrade at Disneyland before the end of your third visit.

Everyone
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
The current purchase-with-purchase offer is a holiday tote for $25 with any $40 merchandise purchase.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase on line, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel.

Character Meet-and-Greet at Disney California Adventure – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free image download per visit.
Star Wars Imperial Meet-and-Greet at Disneyland – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity in the Star Tours Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. Offered daily from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Darth Vader is once again the character featured at this location.

Disneyland Resort Military Discounts
Ticket discounts
Through December 16, 2018, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $168 each (an increase of $12 from the 2017 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $188 each (an increase of $7 from the 2017 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 19, 2018. There are no remaining blockout dates for 2018.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 19, 2018.
Hotel discounts
This offer is valid most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2018. There are no further blockout dates in 2018.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30-40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 19, 2018. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

- Participating military sales outlets must require that Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) present valid military identification to purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets.
- Disney 3-Day or 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets for admission to the Disneyland Resort expire and may not be used after December 19, 2018. Valid military identification will be required for purchase and use.
- No more than six (6) Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and (if applicable) activated by any Eligible Service Member or spouse (regardless of the place of purchase and whether purchased by that person or that person’s spouse). In addition, one of the six (6) Tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse.
- Each Disney Military Promotional Ticket must be used by the same person on any and all days.
- The Photopass Collection can be purchased only in person at Kingswell Camera Shop in Disney California Adventure, or at Main Street Photo Supply in Disneyland.
Hotel & Travel Packages
Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco.
Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – These package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
