The Holiday Week at Disneyland
Christmas and the first night of Hanukkah both fall on December 25 this year, so this week brings a double holiday celebration to the Disneyland Resort. It’s going to be busy, but possibly not as crowded as some may fear now that all of the Magic Key passes are blocked out for the remainder of the year. As of press time, the 25th and 27th seem to be the busiest days, with no one-park tickets available for Disneyland park and the no reservations available for the Disney Holiday Ticket Offer. However, park hopper tickets are still available for every day this week, and there is still room for people to use the remaining days of their holiday ticket on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Looking ahead to the days between Christmas and New Years, traditionally the busiest of the year, there are no sold-out dates at either park, with the lone exception of one-park-per-day tickets at Disneyland on New Years Eve. Obviously this is all subject to change as ticket sales continue, so make your reservations as soon as you buy your tickets.
Even if the parks are packed, there are some absolutely charming holiday offerings to enjoy that tend to draw smaller crowds. The Holiday Fun with Santa & Friends area in the Fantasyland Theater is well worth a visit for families with young children, or just anyone who enjoys seeing the characters in a new environment. During a recent visit on an otherwise busy day, there was just a modest wait to see Santa, a slightly longer queue for photo with Chip and Dale, and Pinocchio and Clarabelle Cow were out interacting with visitors in the area.
The area has several sweet backdrops for family photos, a craft area, and plays holiday-themed Disney shorts on the theater’s massive LED stage backdrops. If you stop by at the right time, you may also encounter a magical snowfall.
During Santa’s Holiday Visit to Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at Disney California Adventure, visitors can also meet Santa and enjoy holiday-themed overlays of the area’s existing attractions. A hidden gem here is the “All Ducked Out” rubber ducky derby. Be sure to ask a cast member for information.
Christmas Eve is the last day to see Santa Claus as he travels between the various meet-and-greet locations, including the three resort Hotels. Santa Goofy takes over starting Christmas Day.
DCA is also home to enough holiday entertainment to fill an entire day. Be sure to check the entertainment schedule for the day you visit so you don’t miss classics like the Holiday Toy Drummers, or new offerings like Mirabel’s Gifts of the Season, A Musical Christmas with Mariachi Alegría de Disneyland & Miguel, or The Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special.
Disneyland introduces new entrance gates
Over the past few months Disney has been testing and installing new entrance gates, dubbed “Tapstyles”, at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The walls have come down from one bank of these gates at Disneyland, and the park is now training cast members on them.
Even though the gates are equipped with MagicBand touch points on the guest side, for now cast members are using handheld devices to scan admission like at the regular gates. The new entrances have a transparent gate instead of a metal turnstile, and are stroller and wheelchair friendly.
The new gates are expected to officially launch with MagicBand integration in 2025, and Disney will replace the current turnstiles in phases.
Refurbishment notes
The next wave of refurbishments begins right after the new year, and Disney has added a few new attractions to the calendar. As noted last week, the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe closes January 6 for refurbishment, with no reopening date announced. The Haunted Mansion Holiday closes January 7-18 to remove the holiday overlay, after which the original Haunted Mansion will reopen at Disneyland for the first time since 2023.
New on the schedule are a refurbishment of the Disneyland Monorail starting January 6, and for the Disneyland Railroad begining January 13. Disney has not provided end dates for either refurbishment.
Next up, “it’s a small world” Holiday closes January 21 to remove its holiday overlay, and the reopening date has not been released.
Construction walls have come down from around Pixie Hollow, and visitors can now walk paths around the water feature and see the jumping fountains. However many of the props and the fairie figures are still missing from the area, and the Meet Tinker Bell in Pixie Hollow meet-and-greet area is still walled off. This refurbishment has been extended several times, and there’s no indication of when the meet-and-greet will reopen.
Course released for upcoming Disneyland race
runDisney has released the course for the upcoming Disneyland half marathon, and the changes have runners split. The “new” course takes runners south into the city of Garden Grove, and will be familiar to those who ran the Star Wars half marathon events when they were held in Anaheim. This course does not go to Anaheim Stadium or the Honda Center, and avoids the dreaded I5 overpass.
The course can only be viewed on this Instagram post, but runDisney will surely release a static copy soon so runners and spectators can prepare. The 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is January 30 – February 2, 2025 and the half marathon takes place on February 2.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it’s best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.
Tickets, Discounts and Promotions
Disneyland prices as of October 9, 2024.
Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!
This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don’t get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
One Day Tickets
Ticket & Season | Adult One-Park | Child (3–9) One-Park | Park Hopper Add-On |
---|---|---|---|

One Day – Tier 1 | $126 | $116 | $65 |
One Day – Tier 2 | $142 | $132 | $65 |
One Day – Tier 3 | $164 | $146 | $70 |
One Day – Tier 4 | $180 | $170 | $70 |
One Day – Tier 5 | $196 | $186 | $75 |
One Day – Tier 6 | $206 | $196 | $75 |
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass Add-On – $32 per day, per ticket when purchased in advance. Demand-based pricing applies to same-day purchases, starting at $33 per ticket.
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass Add-On – $400 per day, per ticket
Check the Disneyland website to see what type of ticket you need for the day you plan to visit. Seasonal pricing applies only to one-day tickets.

Kids Special Offer Ticket
This popular ticket is valid for visits between January 7 and March 20, 2025. You can purchase 1-, 2- or 3-day park tickets, and add on optional Park Hopper and/or Lightning Lane Multi Pass service upgrades.
These tickets start at $50 per day. In comparison, the current price for 1-day, 1-park child ticket can range from $98 for a “Tier 0,” to $194 for “Tier 6.” A fully-loaded 3-day park hopper ticket with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass add-on runs $336 with this offer, compared to the current price of $365 for just the ticket alone. That said, the cost of the add-ons really cuts into the value of these tickets. If you have the ability to spend more days, skip the add-ons and just enjoy a longer visit.
Ticket Duration and Type | One Park Per Day | Park Hopper add on | Lightning Lane Multi Pass Add On |
One Day | $50 | $45 | $32 |
Two Day | $100 | $85 | $64 |
Three Day | $150 | $90 | $96 |
Read the fine print carefully, because you need to make a theme park reservation to use this ticket, and Disney will set aside only a limited number of reservations for this ticket type each day. As with the prior offer, the terms state, “reservation availability for Kids’ Special Offer Ticket holders is not guaranteed for any date, and reservations may be difficult to get for any particular date, especially as the ticket expiration date approaches.”
In addition to requiring a theme park reservation, this ticket also has a “fuse”—which means multi-day tickets expire 13 days after the first day of use (or on March 20, 2025, whichever comes first). You won’t need to use all two or three days consecutively, but you will need to make sure to use them all before they expire. From past experience, it will be difficult to get reservations the last week of this offer unless you plan well in advance.
More details about this offer.

SoCal Resident 3-Day Ticket Offer
Southern California residents can visit the Disneyland Resort theme parks three days between January 1 and May 15, 2025 for as little as $199.
There are four versions of the Special Southern California Resident Ticket, starting at $199:
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket – $199 per person
- 3-day Park Hopper ticket – $289 per person
- 3-day, 1 park per day ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $295 per person
- 3-day, Park Hopper ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass – $385 per person
Unlike the 2024 offer, the base version of this ticket is valid 7 days a week, not just weekdays. Even better, the January 1st start date means many visitors can use this ticket to catch the last few days of this year’s Holidays at the Disneyland Resort festivities and the Festival of Holidays before they end on January 6.
The fine print of these offers changes slightly each season, so be sure to pay close attention to details before you purchase to get the most value for your money. We note that residents of Northern Baja California are again excluded from this offer.
There is no “fuse” on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 1 and wait until May 15 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it’s probably best to purchase early so you’re ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates. Reservations can now be made up to 180 days in advance, which as of press time includes the entire duration of this offer.
Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
Disneyland Holiday 3-Day Ticket Offer for Disney+ Subscribers
Disney+ subscribers in the United States and Canada can purchase a special 3-Day, 1-Park per day ticket for $330 per person, which works out to 3 days for the price of 2. The price is the same for adults and children. The ticket can be upgraded with the Three-Day Park Hopper Add-On or with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass Add-On at an additional cost.
The tickets go on sale starting November 13, and can be used any time through December 27, 2024. Of course you will need to make theme park reservations for each day you want to visit, and this ticket has a “fuse.” All three days must be used within 13 days of the first visit, or by December 27, 2024, whichever comes first. Subscribers can purchase up to five tickets per day, and Disney says that subscribers “may use the tickets for themselves and members of their household.”
Disney+ subscribers can purchase this ticket online, and can get more details on the offer website. (Canadian visitors click here for your version of the deal). If you’re not already a Disney+ subscriber, you can register for the streaming service and take advantage of this offer almost immediately – Disney says it may take an hour for new subscribers to see the offer.
